Aim to Engage #2 -- Try not to get dumped challenge

"Of all the days to dump me, it had to be today!"

I sighed and mentally prepared myself. Working as a 'love expert' wasn't as fun as it sounded. Providing counselling to couples and matching people up took a lot of work and didn't leave much time for your own love life. Today had been particularly hard; A couple wanted a divorce for the stupidest of reasons. I managed to save their marriage and now I had to deal with someone who had been dumped.

Yay for me.

"What's the problem?" I give a sympathetic but fake smile.

"I organised this huge, expensive dinner date with my girlfriend and bought this very expensive ring, planning on proposing to her! Then, she calls me, tells me the dinner's off and that's she's going to marry some other person!"

The man in front of me breaks down crying on my marble-like desk. He wears a suit and tie, leading me to believe that he's a businessman of some kind. A diamond-gold ring rolls between his fingers. An eyebrow gets raised when I see a slight pink tint to it. Where had he got such an expensive and rare diamond?

My computer lights up with a message:

Scarlet Downer and Alex Marrow are requesting a meeting in five minutes.

Click agree or decline. This message will be terminated after 1 minute if no response.

"Who were you planning on proposing to?" I look away from my computer screen and see the teary-eyed man look up.

He wipes his eyes before speaking. "Sorry for crying. Her name was Scarlet Downer."

I quickly click the decline button for the meeting.

"I'm sorry but there isn't much I can do."

My fake sympathy was replaced with real sympathy. I, fortunately, didn't have to deal with people being rejected by their girlfriend or boyfriend.  There must be something. Maybe compensation money? I had more than needed. Then I remember that he probably has more money than all the workers at this agency put together.

"Thank you and sorry for being a nuisance." The man gets up to leave and slides business card across to me.

I look at it for a second.

"Wait! Uh... Daniel? Where were you supposed to go for the date?" He stops at the office door and turns towards me.

"Galaxy Light Hotel."

"Go there anyway, I might be able to plan something..."

·

My navy-blue dress shimmered in the overly lit hotel. Crystal chandeliers hang from the roof and people sit, chatting while eating expensive food. There were certain advantages to working as a love expert; You could get practically anywhere without paying more than ten dollars. Sometimes I wondered if I actually worked for a spy agency and not Match Made Perfect.

I quickly locate were Daniel is sitting, the seat across him, empty.

Taking a deep breath and hoping my disguise held up, I walk forward.
