What Has The World Become
What
Has the world become?
Lost in its flurry of business.
But aware enough that one bright bulb
thought the greatest idea was
to burn
Burn
Burn
The finest works from human mind.
No longer does such beauty
Which once roamed the papers
Survive.
What has the world become?
How does one believe destroying poems
is right?
Who taught them that?
A poem is like a baby
Breathing
Singing
Pouring its emotions out.
Capturing its happiest and darkest moments
It's silly and its sad.
That is the beauty of poetry.
What has the world become?
Without the silent souls speaking thee voices
Pouring their hearts out
To mothers, to fathers
To brothers, to sisters
To lovers, to husbands and wives
To friends and fiends alike.
What has the world become
If we must communicate direct
With no time to stop?
Think?
Listen?
Hear the rhythm of one's heart through words?
How do we save it?
How do we preserve it
When the world wants to ignore it?
What if we could teach it to the next generation
And inspire creativity?
What if we kept it alive
By feeding it the love it needs?
What if, against the law,
We enforce this gift?
What say you, school teacher?
Should we try?

I've never written an abstract poem before and for some reason it was a lot harder to write than I thought it would be.
