Aaron and Susan

Aaron Whimsley is a young man living on the streets. He is near starving, for he hasn't eaten in a few days. He sees a flyer in the window of a cafe. He goes to school the next day and looks for someone he could ask to go on Valentine's day. He sees a girl. He thinks she is interesting. He goes up to her.

"Hi." He says, pushing his auburn hair out of his face.

"Howdy!" She says buoyantly, flashing him a metallic smile. He smirks at her energy.

"I'm Aaron." He says shyly.

"I'm Susan." She says, ceasing her application of teal lipstick, a little lighter than her hair color.

"I like your hair." He says. He thought she was really pretty.

"Thanks! I like your jacket." She says, jumping a bit. Her long, fluffy hair, bouncing with her movements. She opened her locker and got out her books.

"Oh... thank you..." He said, blushing and looking at the floor. He wished he wasn't so shy.

"So, now that I have someone to talk to, I need to ask you something." She said. He was surprised. He was supposed to ask her to go out.

"Oh, uh, go ahead..." He said.

"Okay, so I got this new eyeliner and I was wondering if you could help me put it on, that would be great." She said, pulling out deep, sea green eyeliner.

"Oh, uhm, I could try...?" He said unsure of himself.

"Great!" She said, grabbing his hand and dragging him to floor.

"So, I got this green color because I think look pretty with my eyes and my hair." She said, pointing at her eyes and hair, respectively. He smiled and nodded his head. He thought that she was adorable.

"Uh-huh..." He said. She continued becoming excited and told him to put on the eyeliner. He carefully put on her eyeliner.

"Oh my gosh! Thank ya Aaron!" She said enthusiastically. She gave him a quick hug, causing him to blush.

"Well, uhm, Susan, you're welcome..." He said.

"So, can we hang out at lunch today?" She said, her pale blue-grey eyes sparkling.

"Uh, sure." He said. He knew that he had chosen the right person. She would agree and since she's so outgoing, it wouldn't be awkward.

~*~*~*~*Time Skip to Lunch~*~*~*~*

At lunch, Susan was sitting at a lunch table with a few other people. A girl with skin a little darker than Aaron's. Another girl had hair almost as long as Susan's, but it was bright pink. Another had a button for an eye and red circles on her cheeks. He sat down on Susan's left, right across from the girl with dark skin and green cat eyes.

"Oh! Guys, this is the guy that helped me put on my eyeliner this morning." Susan said, putting her arm around Aaron. They all waved hi.

"How's it goin, little weirdo?" Said the dark skinned girl.

"Uh..." Aaron said, confused.

"I'm Kat. That's Daisy and Galia." She said, pointin to the button eyed girl and pink haired girl.

"Hehe... Howdy-do~" Daisy said, sizing him up.

"Greetings, Mr. Aaron." Said Galia.

"Well, I'm gonna go to the salad bar, you don't fit into these skirts by eating hamburgers every day!" She said jokingly.

"Hey! Don't joke about meat-eating! Some of us are vegans and don't appreciate your horrible life-style." Kat said half-jokingly. As Susan left, all three girls moved next to Aaron.

"So, why'd you approach Susan?" Diasy asked menacingly, her one eye sparkling and her grin seeming more threatening than before.

"Uh... S-she looked n-nice and I w-wanted to t-talk to h-her..." Aaron said, feeling very uncomfortable now that the formerly kind-seeming girls were threatening.

"Well, we just want you to know that if you hurt her, you're gonna... Well, let's just say it ain't gonna be pretty." Kat said, her catlike eyes narrowing into slits.

"I just w-wanted to ask to to go the cafe with me on Sunday for Valentine's Day..." He said.

"You can attempt to romance our dear friend, but she is a pure and innocent soul. If you try to harm her or take that innocence away in any way, we will be forced to intervene." Galia said, her voice calm and her face showing no emotion which was more frightening than the other girls.

"I'm s-sorry..." He said, curling inward reflexively. The girls realized that Susan was on her way back. They all sat in their original seats.

"Oh dear! Sorry I took so long. They ran out of ranch dressing that green gentleman over there caused quite the commotion over it." She said pointing to a boy who was wearing a green shirt and seemed to be on the brink of tears.

"Oh..." Aaron said.

"Well, what did y'all do while I was in the salad line for an absurdly long amount of time?" She asked, putting a fork full of salad in her mouth carefully, trying not to get any of it rubbed off on the fork.

"Nothing really, we talked a bit. Aaron told us he has something he wants to ask you, though." Daisy said, looking at Aaron.

"Oh really?! What is it?!" She said excitedly.

"W-well, uhm, I w-wanted to kn-now if you wanted to go to the cafe down the street on Valentine's day with m-me..." He said, blushing and looking at the table.

"Oh my lord, of course I would!" She said.

"R-really?" Aaron said, smiling slightly.

"Yeah! I'd been wanting to go, but I didn't want to go alone..." Susan said, blushing slightly.

"W-well, I guess we can go together...!" Aaron said. Susan's three friends gave him a warning look and he smiled a bit.

~*~*~*~*~* Time Skip to Valentin's Day at the Cafe ~*~*~*~*~*~*

Aaron was in his "nice" outfit, sitting in front of Susan who was in a short cyan party dress that had purple flowers on it. Aaron felt so under-dressed, in a pair of faded jeans and a white button down t-shirt.

"Are you two lovebirds ready to order?" Asked the blonde waiter, smiling at the two of them. Aaron blushed and nodded his head.

"Well, I'll just have hot chocolate and a slice of strawberry cake." Susan said smiling at the waiter.

"Alright, and you, sir?" He asked looking at Aaron.

"I'll, uhm, I'll have the, uhm... th-the grilled cheese s-sandwich and a glass of water please..." Aaron said, not making eye contact with the waiter.

"A grilled cheese and water?" The waiter asked.

"Y-yes, please..." Aaron said. The waiter took their menus and walked away.

"So, why'd you pick me for today of all days?" Susan asked, floding her arms and putting her chin in her hands.

"W-well... to be completely honest... I live on th-the streets... I don't really get to eat all the time... and th-they were having a special on V-Valentine's Day... I'd seen you around and I thought this was a good excuse to talk to you..." He said. He wasn't lying, he always thought her enthusiasm was cute and that she was pretty.

"So, you thought I looked nice and you wanted to get a special for eating?" She asked. Aaron felt extreme guilt, but hoped she could understand.

"Well, if I can help someone that's all that really matters, right?" She asked happily. Aaron looked at her.

"Y-you aren't mad?" He asked.

"Of course not! I feel honored, actually. You trusted me and all you knew about me was that I went to school with you and was happy. Besides, it's not like we're complete stranger anymore, Aaron. We got to know each other and I think you're a very sweet guy!" Susan said. Aaron started to tear up. In his whole life no one had ever been so kind to him.

"Th-thank you S-Susan..." He said, his voice cracking. Susan smiled at him.

"To be honest, I always wanted to strike up a conversation with you, but you were always so quiet, I thought you were gonna get annoyed..." Susan confessed. Aaron grabbed her hand across the table.

"I don't know a lot of people. The only other person who's my friend is a boy who goes to our school who's name is Damion..." Aaron said.

"Here is your grilled cheese and cake. I'll be right back with the hot chocolate and water." The blonde waiter said. Aaron and Susan held each other's hands and looked at each other.

"You know, I wish I spoke to you sooner..." Aaron said. Susan smiled at him.

"Here are your drinks." The waiter said and smiled at them.

"Maybe this is the start of something beautiful..." Aaron said. Susan laughed and smiled at him. They spent the rest of their meal talking, joking, and laughing.
