Little soldier

Lance walked down the dirt ground as he didn't know what to expect around him but jumped feeling something crawl out of his jacket pocket and up his arm.

"Space mice?" He touched a soft head on his shoulder and it was the little blue mouse, the smallest and cutest one of the other three, as they squeaked jumping happily on his shoulder.

"What are you doing hiding in there?" Lance asked softly. They squeaked.

"Well if your out here with me your stuck with me little buddy... are you a boy?" Lance asked confused. The mouse squeaked aggressively making lance laugh a little.

"So your a girl, alright," Lance smiled a little at her as the mouse nodded crossing her little arms.

"So wanna help me figure out where I am? Is it just the desert?" He asked. The little mouse shook her head with a stern squeak.

"Forest?" Lance put his hands in his pocket. She nodded.

"So your going to be my eyes then, I'll try my best to figure out what your saying but it might be hard so don't yell at me," lance sighed as he took a deep breath.

"You need a name," he sighed as the mouse looked at him confused.

"Stella?"

She bit his ear disagreeing.

"Ow! Okay!" He cried out. "How about Luna then?"

No bite. "Okay Luna it is,"

Lance walked further with Luna on his shoulder as he just listened around him, the wind in the trees, the weird alien birds or other animals that lived here.

He stopped and just stood there listening, it's all it seemed he'll have to do now.

"I know they're just going to replace me, maybe... maybe they'll let me go home then, I'll live on earth, get a little German Shepard as my walking dog, or maybe a golden retriever, there softer, maybe I'll just get a big ol leonberger," he slowly sat down and laid back in the middle of the woods, resting his hands behind his head, just laying there.

"Dogs are the bright side, dark side is... everything else," he whispered as Luna sat on his forehead and patted his nose.

"Ok your a bright side too but it doesn't help me being able to see you," lance said flatly and she hit his nose again.

"I just... I just never even would think something so simple like seeing would be taken away so fast," he closed his eyes and touched the right side of his face softly, the thick scars that sprinkled across his face.

Lance laid there, he didn't know how long for but he just laid there with his eyes closed, Luna curled up and laid on his forehead while lance just breathed softly, enjoying the air before going back to space. He just enjoyed the memories he had to see in his head but right now he couldn't see them... But at least he could dream the images, last night he was able to see, but they where memories of his family, of the earth.

A fear struck him hard.

What if he forgot their faces one day.

Lance bolted up gasping for a breath as Luna fell off when a hand gently touched his shoulder. He painted gripping his shirt with wide blind eyes.

"Are you alright?" A males voice asked, it had a silky accent with a tone soft as velvet.

"Does it look like I'm okay?" He coughed finally catching his breath. He patted the ground around him frowning. "Where is that damn mouse?"

"The one that was on your head?"

"Yes the one on my head!" He snapped frustrated and soon felt Luna crawl back onto his shoulder with an angered squeak.

"I'm guessing your a rota?" Lance sighed calming down, he pushed himself up but strong hands helped him as well.

"Um no,"

"Welp that's a new one," Lance put his hands on his hip glaring up at whoever it was.

"I'm over here," the man tapped his shoulder behind him. Lance groaned turning around. The man noticed lances eyes and remained calm.

"What? No horrified shock?" Lance scoffed knowing the man could see the scars and the pale eyes.

"I've seen worst, and being you blind isn't shocking, I guessed when you couldn't find the mouse," the man shrugged and lance relaxed a little.

"Sorry... I'm new at this," lance sighed looking down frowning.

"At what?" The man asked.

"Would you find it crazy to believe I just became blind about 24 hours ago?" Lance crossed his arms still getting use to calling himself that. Blind.

"Your scars are healed though, unless it's caused by-" "healing pods, I just got out of it yesterday," he sighed.

"Ah," The man understood now. "I wish I had a few of those, could've saved a lot more time and equipment for my troops,"

"Your a soldier?" Lance asked surprised a little.

"In a way,"

"What do you mean?"

"Do you have any allies here or are you on your own?" The man asked putting his hands behind his back.

"Way to change the topic," lance scoffed. "I have my friends, our ship took ground, it's the castle somewhere around here... I'm not-I'm not sure which way though,"

"The castle of lions?" He asked. Lance nodded.

"Well I was going to meet there tonight for the dinner with allies of my own but I'm sure being early won't hurt," he smiled down at lance as the paladin had his arms crossed.

"Your galra aren't you?" Lance asked in a low tone.

"I am," the galra man admitted.

"Allura mentioned the meeting, I guess I could use some help getting back anyways," lance said slowly and the galra offered his arm to him.

"May I guide you? I wouldn't want you to get lost," the galra smiled a little and lance touched up and found his shoulder and trailed his hand down to find where he should hold onto instead.

"What is your name?" The galra asked as they began to walk.

"Lance," he shrugged looking ahead and the galra hummed.

"Lance, like the blade... it seems to suit you as a soldier," he nodded.

"How can you tell that?" Lance frowned a little.

"The way you got up, from your rest, ready for battle but you where startled, only a true warrior wakes up like that," he sighed softly and lance gripped his arm slightly tighter.

"Have you?" Lance whispered.

"I do,"

"Does it ever stop?"

"I'll let you know when the day comes little soldier,"
