The Mandela Effect

This first topic isn't really a conspiracy theory, but it's something that creeps me the fuck out. It has basically consumed my entire life for the past few days (partially thanks to Shane Dawson's videos about it).

That theory is The Mandela Effect.

For those who don't know, The Mandela Effect is a theory where tiny, insignificant details about life as we know/remember it have changed over time. The following text, taken from mandelaeffect (dot) com, gives a basic definition:

"The "Mandela Effect" is what happens when someone has a clear memory of something that never happened in this reality.

Many of us — mostly total strangers — remember the exact same events with the exact same details. However, our memories are different from what's in history books, newspaper archives, and so on."

The Mandela Effect was named after Nelson Mandela because, even though he supposedly died on December 5th, 2013, a lot of people thought he died in prison 20-some years ago. In fact, there is a book, titled English Alive, that claims that Mandela died on July 23rd, 1991.

(the following is a screenshot from Shane Dawson's video on the subject):

Now, there are other so called "Mandela effects" as well. A big "Mandela effect" that has taken the Internet by storm is one about the Berenstein Bears.

For those who don't know, The Berenstein Bears was a book series created by Jan and Stan Berenstein back in 1965. There was a TV show centered around the series, and even a few computer games were created in later years. The books—which center around Mama, Papa, Brother, and Sister Berenstein—are still in print today. Their son, Mike, continued the book series after his mother died in 2012.

But turns out, it isn't the "Berenstein" Bears after all.

It's the Berenstain Bears.

This fucking pisses me off because I grew up watching the show and reading the books and NOT ONCE DO I REMEMBER IT BEING CALLED BERENSTAIN. BerenSTAIN??? No. It was ALWAYS Berenstein. Pronounced like ST-I-NE. Not stain. What the fuck. Nobody spilled soda on the carpet, universe.

There's a really, really popular image going around of an old VHS tape that was originally posted on Reddit. I'm going to post it here (credit to the original uploader!) and you tell me if you see anything odd.

You see that? On the front, it says Berenstain. Even the authors' names say Berenstain.

But on the side it says Berenstein.

Fucking, excuse me???? On the SAME TAPE.

Now, I did some research of my own. And I found something pretty interesting on Google.

(The following images aren't mine)

This was one of the books in the series. "The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room." On the top of the cover you can clearly see that it says Berenstain, and the authors' names are spelt as Berenstain too.

But see, I had this book. In fact, I'm pretty sure we had the entire freaking series and they're somewhere in a box in the garage right now. But I do not remember their name being spelt like that. So I did some further investigating...

IT'S THE SAME GODDAMN BOOK

AND IT SAYS BERENSTEIN

And look at the other books in the picture. The titles, and the name of the authors.

They all say Berenstein

?????????

Now, I can understand if they went through and changed the spelling for some reason. (Even though it DOESN'T MAKE SENSE because why the fuck would they change the authors name). But I searched EVERYWHERE on Google and not once did I find an announcement or some shit alerting people of the name change.

Like.

What the fuck.

Do they WANT to make us believe we're all crazy????

Here they all say Berenstain

BUT HERE THEY ALL SAY BERENSTEIN

Motherfu—

I knew I was gonna go crazy someday, but I didn't think it'd be over a damn children's series
