Chapter 7

It was December 14, 2013, and it was the day before her birthday in fact. She had ended up sleeping in that Saturday morning. She had slept until 10:47 AM, on coincidence, not on purpose at all, and woke up. She went downstairs, led by the amazingly wonderful smell of home-made waffles. She walked down to the kitchen to find her parents there.
"Hey mom, dad, good morning," Avia said, drowsily.
"Hey kid, you were tired this morning. What were you doing last night?" Avia's dad asked.
"Oh, I just couldn't go to sleep, that's all. I guess I am just excited about my birthday tomorrow. Plus, everybody gets those sleepless nights sometimes, it's normal," Avia replied.
"Well, I always heard that the best remedy to a sleepless night is waffles the next morning. Lucky for you, I saved one last one, and u was just about to eat it myself," Avia's mom said.
Avia took her waffle, lathered it in butter, drenched it is syrup, and enjoyed every single bite until there was nothing heft but a puddle of syrup left on her plate. She decided to go upstairs afterward her breakfast. She got to her room and sat at her desk. She started up her laptop, the one with the pink, metallic keys, and started typing a story for her reading class. Now, of you asked anybody else, they would say that the paper was never assigned, and they would be right. Avia was the top in most of her classes, and in some, she was allowed to view lesson plans in advance. This is mostly because she liked to get a head start on all of her schoolwork. She was writing a three page story, where the main character, or a supporting character learns an important lesson. She was about three quarters or a page through, when she heard a knock at the door, her parents no doubt. She walked over and opened the door, but nobody was there. In her parents place was a gift-wrapped box with a note on the top. She pulled the note off of the tape it was stuck to. It read "Early birthday Present. Open now."
Avia brought the gift into her room. It was wrapped in silver wrapping paper, with a golden ribbon, like the box that had contained her charm, but much larger.
"Open the gift, like the note told you to, it looks like your parents handwriting anyway," stripe said. Avia did as he said, and opened the gift, ever-so carefully. Inside was a note, and a picture of her as a baby. "Why would they have a thing like this?" Avia though, and turned to the note.

"Our dearest Avia, from the time you were born, we always knew you were special. Now, you may be wondering why we are saying this to you. Well, we are your birth parents, along with your adoptive parents. Now, we gave birth to a baby on December 14, 2002. She had raven hair and the most darling smile ever. We had given her up for adoption, thinking it was for the best.  When you had turned 7 years old, we decided that we should fill the gap in our family that we had tried to fill a year before with Lilly.  We had no idea that we would ever adopt you.  When we saw you at the adoption center, we knew it was you.  The real bell ringer was when we saw you conscience, stripe, on your shoulder.  Every day since then has been an absolute blessing.  Love, your parents.

Avia didn't know what to think of this.  If they really were her parents, why didn't they just keep her, instead of putting her into the system?  She decided to set the note aside, and put the picture of "her as a baby" on her desk.  She went back to typing her paper, but she was too distracted.  She kept looking over at the picture on her desk, and just wondering.  Wondering what it would have been like if she hadn't been given up inthe first place.  She decided to go downstairs, and get a drink, and just for a nice chance in scenery.  Her parents were sitting in the living room, watching a rerun of Once Upon A Time.  It was the season premeir of season 4, where Elsa was introduced.  Scott was the only one who hadn't seen it yet.

"Hey kiddo, how are you doing?" Scott asked, pausing the TV show so he didn't miss a second.

"I'm good, just gonna grab a soda and get back to homework," she replied

"Okay, what early project that your no doubt going to turn in the day that it is assigned?" Sandra asked.

"Okay, first of all, my teachers said I am not allowed to do that anymore, and two, it is a story where a character must learn a lesson," Avia said, really wanting to get out of the conversation, and get back upstairs.

"Alright, but always remember, give it your all-" Sandra started

"-Or none at all," Avia finished.  It was a famous saying in their family, and they said it when almpst anything happend in the household.  She went back upstairs to do her homework some more, and think some more, everything that had just occured was just too weird.
