Chapter 4

The car was nice and large, it could seat 7 people, but it didnt look like anything other than groceries had ever inhabited the back seat. Sandra sat in the back, with Avia, while Scott drove, up in front. On the way to her new home, they sparked up a conversation.
"So, how long wave you been in that orphanage?"Sandra asked, hoping she wasnt asking about a tender subject.
"I have been there for about 2 years, but I was in the foster system before that," Avia replied, trying not to show the pain in her eyes. She had been waiting to have a family that would love her for so long, but she never got that chance, until today. She was just overfilled with joy. Soon, they passed the town line, marked by a grand sigh that read Welcome to Cresentville. Avia could tell that they were getting close, due to the broadening smile on Sandra's face. Finally, they arrived at a house. It had a dark oak arch above the door with two pillars on either side, all dark oak. The whole house had a kind of warm, fall feel, like it would feel almost out of place in the summer, which it was. The house itself was much too big for only three people, and by the looks of it, nobody else had ever inhabited it. The three of them had started towards the house, and entered. Avia took off her shoes at the door, out of habit, and continued inside, before stopping in her tracks. The inside of the house was magnificent, a beautiful open floor plan and expertly furnished. The feel of the outside completely translated into the interior, giving a nice, roomy feel to it. All of the appliances were completely updated, and it could.t have been more than a year after installation.
"Welcome to your new home," Scott announced, the gleam in his eye never seeming to die out.
"This is amazing, the house is so beautiful!" Avia exclaimed, not knowing how to contain her excitement.
Suddenly, almost out of thin air,a dog pops up, and starts running towards Avia. It is a husky, full grown, black and white, and is clearly going to give birth to a litter of puppies very soon. The large dog went strait for the hand, sniffing it excitedly.
"This is Lilly, our husky. She is due to give birth to a litter of puppies in about a month, so things may be a little bit more chaotic than usual, but it will be a bit calmer soon enough," Sandra said.
"Great!" Avia exclaimed, now scratching Lilly behind her ears, the dog trying her best to lick her face.
"Come, and follow me to the couch, so we can discuss the rules of this house," Sandra told Avia, and led her to a grand couch, one that has a corner and turns, so it fits the walls, and the sat down right in the corner. Scott sat down right after.
"Okay, so, we have a few rules in this home. First, is that you must keep your room tidy. Next, you will be needed to be quiet whenever whenever we are on the phone. We both work, so when we get a phone call it is usually very important. Thirdly, we will need you to use your manners in this house and out. We will expect this wherever you go. Lastly, we will expect you to text us when you get home from school. We both work, so you will be home along for about 30 minuets each day," Sandra said, out of breath at the end.
"Those rules are all understood, except the last one. I don't have the technology to text you," Avia said.
"That is why we will provide you with the technology," Scott announced. "We have an old I Phone 4s that we haven't used in a long time. We would be glad to give it to you."
Avia's eyes lit up after he said this. She had never even touched a phone, much less had one. She didn't know what to say except, "Thank You!"
"Don't mention it," Sandra replied. "Now, do you want to see your room?"
"Ya, sure," Avia replied. Nobody could see it, but she was jumping out of her skin, she was so excited.

The Swans led Avia up the grand staircase, and down a short hallway. At the end of it, there was a large double door entrance. Sandra and Scott each opened up one door to show a large room. It was furnished with a large, queen size bed with a blue and green overlapping polkadot bedspread in the center of the back wall. There was a small brown sofa by a window great for writing on. On the opposite side of the room there was a large pink beanbag in front of a flatscreen television. It was more than she had ever imagined. The rest of the room was furnished with things you would find in a normal room, like a dresser, night stand, alarm clock, that sort of thing, just a little bit more jazzed up. By this time, it was around 9:00 at night.

"Okay kiddo, its time to go to bed," Scott announced. "If you sleep best listening to anything, we can set the sound machine to almost anything,"

"Does it have the sound of a thunderstorm?" Avia asked.

"It sure does!" Scott told her, and set the sound machine.

"Okay Avia, get some rest, we have a full day planned tomorrow," Sandra said. That night, Avia slept like a baby in her new home.
