Episode 16: Holding the Base

Frame sighed as he watched the men work tirelessly on getting the Vehicle's they had just found in the base working, but even he couldn't ignore the men who helplessly carried and put the Bodies of their fallen compatriots in nearby hole's which were clearly grave's in a way.

If the Enemy didn't kill them yet the men's morale and condition would, but it couldn't be help as they had been walking for day's mostly without rest as it was now imperative to get to the fleet with all haste.

Though he couldn't help but feel sorry for these men as they all seemed to be younger than most in the Army, yet it looked like the entire Army in America was mostly Young men and Boy's fighting.

By god what has happened to their once Great and "Glorious" Empire.

"Steven....That Coward sit's on his throne while Young men and Boy's die and fight out here....I'll take the entire Damn Army here if I have too some day." Frame stomped the ground as he turned around to see several Soldier's run past him clearly bringing more tool's and Equipment for the Mechanic's.

"You there....Come here." Frame stopped a nearby Soldier clearly interrupting him of his duties, but none the less the Young Soldier came over to the Warring General.

"How old are you?" Frame looked at the man before him, he looked to be regularly dressed in a normal Military Uniform, he also had black hair, and also had deep brown eye's, but the fact that he was using his gun to support him was worrying.

"Sixteen Sir...." The Man spoke up while clearly breathing heavily as he stared at the man before him after raising his head up. Though he was surprised to see the General's Expression which was of complete shock and Surprise.

"Sixteen? By God." Frame rubbed his chin after finishing his statement yet was fully aware the man was still looking at him.

"It's not that bad sir my Brother was only thirteen." The Soldier spoke up next while putting his head on the gun while it still supported him, but when he looked at the General he was met by the same look.

"Was?" Frame asked the question almost like a whisper as the answer before had almost affected him badly, but the Soldier did not pick up on this.

"He was killed.....three week's ago....a week ago would have been his birthday." Frame looked at the Soldier blankly, he did not speak a word as well as he just sat there looking at him.

"Get some rest....you're going to need it." That was the only thing Frame could say at the given time as he had given the young man a pat on the shoulder before walking away to check on the many other's here.

"I need an Engineer here!" A Soldier shouted out across the large base as he was working on a small terminal at the base gate, but it was clearly to be as a defense against those who were chasing them as if though that was the look of it from Frame's view.

As he did walk around though Frame had noticed the very many men running and walking around trying to find some kind of supplies, or to just get the base operational again incase of a attack, but in this case a attack would be likely at any given time.

Frame sighed heavily as he sat on a very large crate which ironically was placed near a pile of Crate's just like it, but from his understanding it was crate's full of ammunition and weapon's instead of food or other supplies.

He silently stood at the ground as a sign that he was in deep thought, though he was clearly thinking on everything that happened to this point, but mainly what was going on around them at the moment.

His thought's were broken slightly from time to time when Group's of Soldier's, Engineer's, or Medic's had ran past him obviously to do what they could at the moment, though everything was getting to them all as he had watched several soldier's fall over on there back's or on their stomach's obviously tired.

He couldn't blame them however not with the thought's of having to go to sleep and thinking that the enemy would slit your throat in you're sleep, he himself had these thought's before when he fought in the war.

"Sir?" His thought's were completely drained away as he heard the word's come out of a nearby Commander's mouth, but as he looked up at the Commander he could still see the same exhausted look the other's had.

"Yes?" The Commander stood straight and firm clearly a sign that this man had some king of news to give to Frame.

"We have gotten most of the base operational, and the Vehicles are almost ready." The Commander spoke slowly and quietly, but from judging from his worried face it looked like he had something else to say which Frame gave him the go ahead with a short wave of his hand.

"The Siege of Minsk is over, but I'm afraid that Marshall Brandon was ordered and forced to pursue his enemy yet it lead them into a trap." Frame looked at the Commander without even looking up with him, but the Commander struggled to keep calm as he stared at the man before him.

"Their calling the man who planned the Ambush....." The Commander slightly tugged at the collar around his neck as Frame turned his head to look at him.

"Tell Me...Who...is...it?" The Commander gulped slightly as he looked down at the man before him as he tugged at the collar Again.

"They call him.....General Nathan.....the Master of the Defense." Frame stood directly at the Commander clearly hinting his fear while he had told him this.

"General Nathan? of the British?" The few word's that came out of Frame's mouth as he spoke shook the commander as he hinted the clear anger coming from him.

"Y-Y-Yes, That would be him." Frame stared at him before staring down at the ground.

General Nathan was once a feared and Respectful commander in Europe during the Revolution, he alone could turn the tide of battle-just like Frame could. If these two were to ever go up against each other it would be the battle to end all battle's.

"Thank you.....for the report." Frame spoke low and slowly as he watched the commander straighten himself before saluting and running away, but clearly from the way he ran it looked as if though he was trying to get away from Frame before he lost it.

As everything was dying down, Frame took this chance by sitting back down on the crate and begun thinking again. This news was unfortunate especially when a General Nathan has just returned out of no where and is threating the entire Empire, but then again he wasn't the master of the offence.....Frame was.

His thought's were completely drowned again as he heard the sound of a small explosion near him, but as he had heard it he had barley looked at it before he sighed heavily watching the countless men with him rush to the front gate of the base.

"Well.....Great." Frame slapped both of his hands on his leg's before getting up, but instead of panicking and running he instead walked over to the gate, where he saw the men reading themselves for a battle.....a terrible one at best.

"Commander, Report?" Frame crossed his arm's behind his back as soon as he reached the top of the gate, but clearly from the look of the Commander's face he looked to be in pure panic.

"The Enemy arrived faster than we expected, but they must have been following us at a much faster rate since we left New York." The Commander spoke quickly, and hesitantly, but he was stopped before he could speak again by the sound of a explosion thankfully it didn't hit them. Unfortunately it hit a group of soldier's who were running to the gate.

"Very Unfortunate Commander, but I need those vehicles in working shape, so tell the Engineer's to get back to work and work fast." Frame quickly ordered the Commander when he heard the sound of another explosion near them, but the Commander's only response was a silent nod before he ran off to give the order's.

"Men!" Frame shouted out to the men before him in a matter that not only frightened them, but go their full attention....completely.

"These....Monster's.....you have seen what they can do, look around this base, look at the body of General Tech, they will not show you any mercy, neither will you." The Soldier's looked at him with some hope and encouragement as he continued to speak.

"As Such do not show them fear men, so load you're weapon's, Prepare you're aim, and do not fire until you see the Bastard's themselves!" Frame slammed his fist on the very wall protecting their leg's all the way to their hips as he finished his little "Speech", but a moment later he heard the sound of the floor shaking and when he looked over the men were hitting their guns on the gate wall in a rhythm.

The first attack wave came in from the forest in number's maybe over a hundred to a thousand came rushing at the gate, but the defender's were ready with a storm of bullet's.

Frame looked over to his right and saw the Men prepare themselve's by aiming their weapon's down, but really to anyone's eye's it would look like they were aiming below them, yet they were aiming at the enemy.

"Fire!" Frame shouted out the command and was followed with the motion of his hand when he waved it forward, but the only response was the loud storm of Bullet's firing from the men to his right. The Instant fire killed a very large group of enemy soldier's, thirty at best which caused the rest of their small group to retreat and regroup with everyone else.

Every time the men would continue to charge at the Gate, the Defender's continued to rain a storm of Bullet's on them using every bullet in their magazine to their expense.

For the past few Minute's this chain continued until a small group of enemy Soldier's had managed to get to the very wall's of the gate to where they couldn't be shot at. What occurred soon after was when the soldier's threw rope's and hook's over the wall and began to climb up into a fight.

The Fighting on the wall was the most intense as the Defender's and Attack's were caught in a fierce melee fight.

When one lone Soldier was knocked down on his back he was saved from a blade to his chest by a lone gunshot, but when he went to go thank the soldier who save him he was surprised to find that Frame had saved him.

The very gun Frame held in his one hand was very unique, it looked to be a Revolver, but the color was black, the magazine's had different engraving's on them, and the barrel was longer than most.

"Get up, and get back to fighting." Frame helped the young man up before shooting the enemy soldier who had just climbed up next to him, but instead of his body falling forward it fell backwards hitting the men climbing the rope.

"Commander, are they done yet!?" Frame shouted out at the Commander through the confusion, but was met minute's later by the commander who came running with several more troop's.

"They will be soon sir, those truck's needed more repair's than we thought." Frame silently cursed himself as he shot the next Soldier who came rushing at him with his bayonet ready.

"Keep telling them to get it fixed, otherwise we all die, and get a damn Tank up here for Christ's sake!" The Commander nodded again before running away to give the Command's out, but the battle for the gate was getting worse by the minute.

Every minute the Defender's would kill group, two more would replace them and would climb up to the top of the gate making the fighting there even more deadly.

After Several minute's a lone Tank rolled up very slowly and headed toward's the gate, it and it's crew were ready for battle, along with the Soldier's following behind it.

Frame looked over the side of the Wall and saw the Enemy troop's retreat at the sight of the Tank which had begun to fire as soon as the gate opened half way for it and it's machine gunner to fire.

The Countless Enemy troop's continued to storm the gate until finally what seemed like a Hour, and when the Tank had run out of it's ammunition along with the Group of Soldier's on the Gate having half of their ammunition spent the Enemy stopped their attack.

Frame looked over the side of the Wall to see the Soldier's from before were hiding in the nearby tree's, but that was until two Tank's rolled in infront of them though they didnt fire they just sat there.

"It's gone quiet, why do they not continue their attack?" Frame thought to himself as he stared at the Tank's and men in the tree's, but he could tell the same thought was coming from the other's as well.

"Soldier's of the Empire!" One voice shouted out across the Tank's and silence from both the Defender's and the Attacker's, but when Frame heard it he backed up and slowly ducked down knowing exactly who it was, how could he forget......her.

"Lay down you're Arm's and die honorably, it's time to surrender!" Frame rolled his eye's at her comment before he stared at the men, but when he did he saw all of them give him a slight nod.

"To Hell it is, Attack!" Frame shouted out very quickly, but the only response was the men on the gate opening fire once more cutting down the gunner's and men around the Tank's rather quickly.

Soon after the Enemy soldier's began to fire once again, but what ensued after was as bloody as before the firing had stopped.

"Sir, the Vehicles are ready, though the enemy continues to advance we can't hold them off and escape at the same time." Frame looked at the Commander as he shouted over to him, but then drew his attention to the Tank below.....the Damaged Tank.

"All of you get to the Truck's, Transport's, whatever to hell just get there!" Frame ordered the Soldier's quickly as he pointed toward's the direction of the Transport's, though he could see the Confusion In their eye's. They didn't dare question him though and took off one by one down the Stair's and ran toward's the Vehicles.

Frame griped the handle of his Gun, but looked down at it as the Rain had begun to pour once again.

"Cursed Rain." Frame groaned and aimed his gun down at the men who were climbing up the rope's, but each one he continued to shoot more and more just came. Finally he had run out of ammo in his gun, and had noticed the Soldier's who were standing infront of him.

So he did the only thing he could do he had grabbed the nearest rifle from one of the Soldier's from before and fired at the group of enemies, but each time more and more would come.

Finally he had seen only one Vehicle was left and had decided to jump down from the platform where the Enemy soldier's were now swarming it. Though when he ran away and got to a distance he aimed the barrel of the rifle at a small fuel line that had come loose from the Tank, which was still wedged between the Gate door's.

He waited until a large amount of enemy troop's had made it up onto the gate, but that's when he fired the weapon. What happened next ended in the Tank exploding into a ball of fire, though it also caught many of the Soldier's and the gate itself on fire.

"Go to hell, you Bastard's." Frame spoke under his breath as he slowly walked away, but when he approached the last Vehicle the Soldier's in it looked in horror behind him.

"We are on a tight schedule are we not gentlemen?" He spoke to all the Soldier's as they turned their gaze to him when he had climbed into the Transport, but as soon as he did the Transport began to move....at a fast pace as well.

"Another Skirmish.....and we barley survived that one.....two days....I pray to god we make it there." Frame spoke to himself, but almost like a whisper so the men could not hear him. They all were young and already have gone through so much already, the least they needed was to lose hope now.

And most importantly their confidence in Fighting.
