EP 3: The Parrot Sage- Sukadeva
Sri Krishna touched the womb of Uttara. The effect of Brahmashirastra vanished. Sri Krishna said, "The mighty Brahmashira has unfortunately killed the fetus. But with my Karmic and yogic powers, I, Vasudeva Krishna, give life to this fetus for the welfare of the society and upcoming ages. He would be soon enlightened and shown the best path by a great person. Through this person, he would attain liberation (Moksha). My blessings will always be on him."
Sri Krishna is everything. He is present each and everywhere. There is nothing which he cannot do and nothing happens without his permission. The Lord is the kindest and lovable one though he is free from all bondage.
Kunti, Draupadi, Subadra (Arjuna's wife), and Uttara bowed before Krishna with gratitude. Tears of joy were observed in everyone's eyes. Pandavas did the rites for the funeral for their dead sons.
Meanwhile, Subadra asked Balarama (Krishna's elder bro), "Brother Krishna always gives a puzzle which makes my mind imagine a lot. He is Maya Kannan. He is ManMohan, the attractor of everyone. Who is that person who will be a major part of my grandson's life? Brother, I need to know this."
Balarama giggled and said, "Krishna is indeed a magician. It is necessary for you to know about this person. Hence, you asked this question. The person whom your grandson will meet is a parrot sage."
"Parrot? Are you kidding, brother? How can a mere Parrot enlighten a prince?" asked innocent Subadra.
Balarama continued, "Yes, Suba, Let me describe you the story clearly."
Mahadev is one of the trinity. Vishnu and Shiva are immortals who never dies. They are like the faces of a coin. Adi Shakti is the power of Shiva who was the sole responsible for the creation. Adi Shakti took the form of a human named Parvati to become the eternal consort of Shiva.
Once Parvati being intrigued asked the secrets of his immortality. Mahadev pleased by her devotion and curiosity said, "Gauri, I will reveal you the secrets, but one condition, you should be very attentive and say "Hmmm" to my every statement.". Uma (Parvati) accepted this. In middle, Parvati's mind got distracted. Soon Parvati dozed off.
When Lord Shiva completed his lessons, he was shocked seeing Parvati sleeping. He searched for the culprit who heard the lessons and replied to his statements. He found that a parrot listened to the lessons of Mahadev near a bush. The secrets of immortality should never be leaked out. Mahadev with his trident rushed towards the bush to kill it. Mahadev thought that the parrot is not deserved for the lessons.
The parrot who is now the knower of everything realized a great danger coming forth towards him. He flew fast as much as he can. He saw Maharishi Veda Vyasa and his wife doing a sacrifice to obtain a son. The Gods said from the sky, "Oh Great sage, soon, your wife will beget the most enlightened and devoted son."
The parrot with his yogic powers entered the womb of Vatika, Vyasa's wife. The parrot stayed there in her womb for 16 years safely. Vatika could not bear the pain anymore. She screamed for help. Veda Vyasa begged the parrot to come out. He refused to come.
He said, "Oh Maharishi, I wish to not come out. Though I am afraid of Mahadeva, I am more afraid of being attached to worldly pleasures. I wish to be in the womb of your wife and engage in devotional service."
Veda Vyasa cried, "Narayana, Madhava help me. Please be mercy on me and my wife." Hearing the pleas of his devotee, Sri Vishnu appeared. Sri Vishnu advised the parrot to come out. Narayana said, "Oh enlightened one, I promise that you won't be attached to any worldly pleasures and bondages."
Hearing the Lord's promise, the parrot came out. Sri Vishnu said, "The parrot has filled the thirst of knowledge of its soul which no animal does. As he entered the womb of a human, he is a human too. He is half parrot and half-human. His glories and fame will be spread and remembered forever. He will be ever remembered as 'Sukadeva'."
Suba asked, "Until this incident, where was the parrot living? What was it doing?"
Balarama said, "He was the pet parrot of Srimati Radha Rani, the eternal consort of Sri Krishna."
