Chapter 40: Impossible [Part 1]

"What attracted you to my son in the first place?" She looked at me with a peculiar expression on her face.

"Well... it's kind of a funny thing." I replied, shyly.

It's Monday evening. I am inside Headmaster Lockwood's office in the third tower of the Ravenwood Academy with Jayden and his parents. First, his mother challenged me with a provocation that I responded in kind, then she went on to confirm or deny the pieces of information about me that were passed by her father.

It was my chance to tell my own story and defend my point of view. Now that it is done, we are getting to the nitty gritty of my relationship with Jayden. It was a short relationship of only one month, but it was enough for me to fall in love with him.

"I met Jayden when he was stepping out of a shower stall that he was not supposed to use in the first place. He came across as just another arrogant Alpha that this place seems to have by the bulk." I continued, timidly but determined.

"After that first encounter, he won me over with his irresistible charm and amazing good looks, which I see now that he inherited from you. No offense, Luna." In one go, I complimented the mother and son but acknowledged that his father was also here and not bad looking.

"There is something about Jayden... I don't know how to phrase it exactly. He could be just like any other privileged Alpha, but he is not. He is humble and attentive. He never made me feel smaller or less than other students here. He encouraged me to assert myself and told me I deserved an Alpha of his caliber when I had learned his famous last name that he purposefully withheld from me at first." I turned to look at him, smitten.

"He made me feel seen, valid. He made me believe I was enough for him despite my humble background. In fact, he never cared about that. He just cared about me and I was instantly enthralled by him. He just... is. I don't know if that makes sense." I stumbled at my own words as I tried to describe how I felt about her son.

Jayden and I exchanged a longing glance, our eyes twinkled with emotions and a glistening joy that was clear to see. The truth is Jayden is the boy I was sent here for. A true born Alpha with a heart of gold.

I was enchanted looking at him by my side for what felt like forever until Alpha Lockwood cleared her throat, drawing our attention back to her, the woman of the hour.

"I believe I have everything I need for now. If I remember correctly from my time as a student here, now it's time for dinner. I don't want you kids to be late." She smiled at her son and me, politely ushering us out of the door.

She and her husband were going to have dinner with her father in this tower. Faculty eats here, separately from the students. That is also useful whenever a parent is visiting. There are also guest rooms in this tower for that purpose.

We said goodbye to the Alpha and Luna and walked together to the first tower. Jayden held my hand as we walked, excitedly.

"How do you think I did? Is your mother ready to ban me from being in the same room with you?" I asked Jayden, apprehensively.

"Are you kidding me? She loved you! You hit it out of the park! You are amazing! I love you!" He replied, enthusiastically.

Jayden turned to me as we reached the first tower and laid a wet kiss on me that had my head spinning.

Sometime later, we sat down with trays of food in our respective sections of the cafeteria. Most of the students were already eating dinner by now.

"How was it? Jayden seems excited." Seth quizzed me, interested in the outcome.

"Like a job interview, except I never got to lie on my resume. Someone else did it for me and I had to set the record straight." I replied, honestly. I am still peeved at Headmaster Lockwood for the way he described me to his daughter. As if I was a savage with no education. Come on! How do you think I got here in the first place? It's insulting!

"You seem happy like I haven't seen you since the break-up." Kyle commented to Jayden, who was giddy with excitement.

"I knew once I got Jake in front of my mother, she would see what I see in him. He was even better than I thought he would be. He is amazing! He was never intimidated by her, just answered her questions honestly like he always does. He's amazing! I don't think either of us will have to dance at the loser ball. We could be the first couple approved in the entire school!" He replied, bursting with excitement at the prospect of that happening.

"He has that quality about him. Most Omegas would be intimidated in front of powerful Alphas but not Jake. He has that incredible strength of spirit that makes him fearless." Skylar chimed in, sounding profoundly concerned about the speed at which things were going.

"I am sorry, my friend. I knew you wanted to prospect Jake but that was never going to work anyway." Kyle told Skylar with a pity stare.

"They are not approved yet, Kyle! Jay still needs to be vetted by Dr. Anderson. And if you thought an Alpha was tough, trying being interrogated by a psychologist." Skylar stated, annoyed at his insinuation.

"At some point, I remembered one of those documentaries I saw on HBO about Guantanamo Bay prison." Skylar said dramatically.

People were gasping in shock at hearing his words, including Seth sitting across from me.

"He's exaggerating to scare Jayden. She was actually very impressed by him. If your father would ever approve of me, my mother is already sold. We would be the first approved couple in Ravenwood." I told Seth, humorously.

I swear I meant that as a joke.

"Wait, what?" Skylar gasped in shock as he heard that. Not that it should be a surprise to him, he was there. My mom even cooked for him. She barely cooks for her only son. Just saying...

"It was a joke, Skylar!" I rolled my eyes as if any of that was news to him.

"We both know your father would never approve of me as your prospect." I told him from several tables away in the distance.

"Oh my Goddess, that's it! I just have to beat Jay to it." Skylar realized something as if a light bulb had gone on his head.

"Beat me to what? It's impossible for you to get approval for Jake before my mother approves of him. You lost, Sky. Move on!" Jayden snarled, peeved at him for raining on his parade.

"No, I haven't lost yet. I have his mother's approval. You don't. All I need is to convince my father and we could be the first Ravenwood couple." He said, excitedly.

"How are you getting Jake approved if you are not even going to Texas this weekend? We have the 'loser' ball on Friday night. Remember?" Kyle asked him, puzzled by his train of thought. In case that wasn't clear before, attendance to official Ravenwood mixers is mandatory for all students who meet the requirements - those who don't have a prospect approved by at least one set of parents.

"Ye of little faith." He gave him a wicked smile, which meant mischief was in the air. Skylar took out his phone and...

"Siri. Call Santos."

"Oh, my Goddess!" Seth gasped in shock as he heard that.

"Who's Santos?" I questioned him, confused.

"Our Personal Assistant. He's going to book a flight home." He replied, baffled by this.

"Wait, what? When are you flying to Texas?" Kyle asked him, confused by this move.

"Tomorrow." He announced, surprising everybody.

"But you'll miss school!" He was shaken by this sudden move from him. We all were.

"I am allowed a certain amount of absences. I'll be back before Friday, the night of the ball. Hopefully, I will return with Jake's approval." He boasted with such confidence that I was perplexed. It is no small task to get his father's approval of me, especially if I am not even going with him. Not that it would make much of a difference in this case...

"Give it up, Skylar. Jake is in love with me! It's a fool's errand. How are you even supposed to get the approval of a prospect who isn't going with you on this trip?" Jayden was pissed at this Hail Mary.

Not going to lie. This is not where I thought tonight was going to end... I am gobsmacked!

"I will just have to convince my father that Jake is the one for me. I can't lose him. I won't. So, if I have to travel thousands of miles to secure his approval, I will. Nothing is impossible unless I never try." He declared, getting on the phone with his personal assistant to book the family jet for tomorrow morning.

"You do realize you could do all this and Jake would still pick Jay, right? They have been in a relationship." Kyle warned him on the way out of the cafeteria, some time later.

"It's a risk I'll have to take. Jake has to know that I will fight for him, even when it seems impossible." Skylar replied, glancing at me on my way out. *Gasp*

A|N: BOOM!

You are not going to believe the stuff I have in store for you guys!

The thing you have been waiting for is about to go down!

Skylar is going back to Texas and he is not taking 'no' for an answer.

The war for Jake hits an all new height. And you can hardly wait!

Grab your popcorn because an all new chapter awaits for you tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I had to split this chapter in two.

So next comes the second part of "Impossible".

NOTE: It goes without saying that I know who will claim Jake at the end of the book. I have always known since the beginning of the story. It's my job to know, obviously. But I love to see you guys engaging in the novel, being either Team Skylar or Team Jayden. Keep up the cheer, please. It's absolutely my pleasure to take you along this ride until the end.

But rest assured I am not even close to finishing telling this story.

Love,

Léo.
