Chapter 39: All The Things She Said

Shocked.

This day doesn't seem to end...

It started with me finding that Jayden's marriage proposal went viral on social media.

And now his mother, the Alpha of the White Claw pack, is here and wants to see me.

Based on this meeting, my whole future with Jayden could be decided. She can either get on board or forbid me to be with her son, effectively ending any chances of him ever prospecting me. *gasp*

Nervous? Me? Imagine that... *shakes with apprehension*

It's only my entire future on the line. I mean, the future with the boy I love. Damn, I would love nothing more than to be allowed to be prospected by Jayden. I cannot lie, nor can I hide it. He is the one who has my heart.

At least if I were to be prospected by him, this whole fantasy with Skylar would come to an end. Don't get me wrong, I am loving how passionately he is advocating for our prospect. But that is just a fairytale. *silent teardrop falls from my face*

Both of us know I will never be approved by his father and without him signing off on us, we would be dead in the water.

Still, I gasped in shock at the speech he gave during lunch break today when Kyle asked him what it was about me that had him in contention to be my partner.

Seth was shaken to hear his brother speaking of me like he had never spoken about anyone before. *swoon*

Am I having a blast being disputed by the two hottest - not my words - Alphas of the entire academy?

Yes, I am. For someone who thought going into this nobody would ever give me the time of day, I am pleasantly surprised and wildly entertained.

But so far, it's just words in the wind. Nothing actionable. I still have to attend this week's Harvest Ball. Just like the Alpha boys and everyone else who hasn't secured a prospect approval.

"Are you excited about the Harvest Ball?" I asked Seth, who was sitting by my side in the classroom, before the last class of the day. At this point, Jayden's parents have already arrived here at Ravenwood and are talking privately with him and the patriarch of the family.

"I don't have to go to the 'loser' ball. I have an approved prospect." He boasted with a smug grin I usually only see in his brother. I glared at him for that characterization, though it's what everybody else is referring to.

"Did your father already send the email to the school administration?" I quizzed him, intrigued about it.

In a school like Ravenwood, simply stating you have an approved prospect is not enough. One of your parents - if applicable, the Alpha - has to send an email to Headmaster Lockwood informing him that your prospect has been approved by them.

Who is going to take a teenager at their word?

Just ask my mom about it... However, by the time she was pregnant, my father was already 21 years old. *grunts in annoyance*

"Not yet, but he should get back to me by Friday at the latest." He replied, enthusiastically.

He has been giddy with excitement after he returned from Texas with Sean, anticipating his father's approval of him since the trip was so successful. It's actually kind of annoying, really. But I love him, so I have to be happy for him. He has always been there for me, I mean, as soon as we were assigned roommates and became instant close friends.

"Good for you, my friend. Meanwhile, the rest of us mortals have to brush up our dancing moves to tackle all the eligible bachelors." I rolled my eyes, not excited at the prospect.

"Oh, I cannot wait to dance with you." Skylar flirted from his seat in the classroom and I blushed.

"If he is still available by then. Alpha Lockwood is here and she's ready to meet Jake." Seth cautioned his brother, who grunted. The news of Jayden's parents' arrival provoked a stir among the students since the Headmaster announced it this morning.

Because we were occupied with classes, most of us did not see them arriving here. I am sweating buckets in anticipation of the upcoming meeting with her.

"Shut up, Seth!" Skylar growled at him, annoyed at this. He is apprehensive about her arrival and potential approval of me. Goddess knows that if she does, then game over.

"Good afternoon, students. How have you been doing this afternoon?" Professor Roberts greeted us as he walked inside the crowded classroom missing one notorious student. The one who is talking with his mother.

"Today, inspired by the visit of Alpha Lockwood and Luna Richardson, I will tell you the story of Bidziil. He was a Native American warrior of the Navajo tribe who lived a long time ago in the era of colonization." He began his lecture to a class of otherwise bored students. Not me, who is tilting with apprehension.

"Bidziil lived in a time when the European settlers that came into this country were starting to travel in massive boats that arrived in our ports. I am not going to bore you today, talking about the decimation of the original Americans, I will just stick with his story." He continued, leading up to something.

"Once upon a time, when werewolf packs started trading with native american tribes, Bidziil and the rest of the warriors of his tribe were sent to accompany their Chief on a meeting with an Alpha of a ruthless pack who had been decimating small packs, including other reservations." He changed his tone to better illustrate the story, dramatizing it.

"On the day of said meeting, there he was with his tribe when the sanguinary Alpha Gideon arrived with his band of warriors who knew no defeat up until that point. The only reason why they were even entertaining negotiations is because Bidziil's tribe was one of the largest in Oklahoma and therefore impenetrable to most packs." He widened his eyes.

"Not soon after they sat down, Bidziil's eyes shone like never before, startling everybody around him." He raised his tone, causing us to be shocked by that.

"Gideon's men were dumbfounded by his eyes shining the brightest they ever shone. He was immediately struck by the mate bond and declared Bidziil his mate, shocking all the men who were with him for that meeting. At that time, no white man had ever been mated to one of the same sex. Neither were women, for that matter. It was impossible to conceive by the European settlers, who all gasped in shock at the novelty." He continued telling the tale.

"Of course, by that point, two-spirit indigenous people were no stranger to the population and this wasn't a shock to them at all. The shocking thing was that Bidziil was mated to a white man, which had not yet happened at that time - to this particular tribe."

"Shockwaves were sent among the men of Gideon's tribe. What happens now? Of course, his first instinct was to reject his mate. No news there. As a matter of fact, Gideon already had a chosen partner back at home." He gesticulated for the effect of the dramatic story.

"Bidziil's companions all stood up to hug and say goodbye to him since he was mated now. Tradition demanded that he had to stand by his new mate, even though he didn't speak the same language as Gideon. There was only an interpreter to translate for the tribe as well as one for the white werewolves."

"When Bidziil walked to be with his new mate, Gideon stopped him. He asked his interpreter: 'What is he doing? I can't be mated to a man! This has to be some sort of mistake. I have a woman back home'." He shouted the outcry of the Alpha.

"The Chief then spoke, via his interpreter, that the Navajo tribe considers the mate bond to be sacred. They do not believe in rejection, no matter who you are mated to, you have to accept your mate. If he could not accept Bidziil here as his mate, then he'd have to kill him. Because he can no longer return to our pack, unless his mate comes to live with him." He spoke in a somber tone the harrowing words of the Navajo Tribe leader.

All of us were at the edge of our seats listening to this story that is kind of relatable on some level for queer people. I know Seth and I were gasping in anticipation of the conclusion.

"Gideon's men encouraged him to put a knife in the indigenous man and be done with it. But of course, saying is one thing, actually standing up to kill your mate, no matter who they are, is an entirely different matter. He stood up in front of Bidziil, who was ready to meet his demise, vulnerable before his new found mate who did not want him. Unable to personally kill him, Gideon ordered one of his men to take care of the noble warrior." Professor Roberts told us in a grim tone.

"Oh my Goddess! He died?" I gasped in shock, almost teared up at the heartbreaking story.

"Actually, no. He didn't. The warrior was unable to kill him, instead, Bidziil bested the warrior in combat and killed him." He revealed and I breathed out a relieved sigh.

"So what happened to Bidziil?" Seth asked the professor, intrigued to know the outcome of this tale.

"Well, long story short, he killed every single one of the men Gideon ordered to murder him. Some of them two at a time. He watched horrified as the man he thought was a 'sissy', pardon my language, faced off against all his men who were unable to injure the mighty warrior who fought like no one he has ever seen before." He replied, sounding excited about the story.

"In the end, Gideon had no other choice than to take Bidziil back to his pack with the few men he had left. At one point, he understood that if he continued to send his men to face him they would all be killed by him. Bidziil was undefeated." He spoke with admiration.

"When the young native american arrived at his mate's pack, he faced a host of prejudice and homophobia. People could not believe that their Alpha, who again had a female companion, was mated to a red-skinned male who did not speak their language." He said, feeling terrible for the legendary warrior.

"So, they killed him?" I asked him, preparing myself for the inevitable outcome.

"Well... they sure tried. But Bidziil challenged all the warriors from that pack and defeated them, one by one, in combat. He fought unlike any warrior they had ever seen before. He was savage, indomitable, ruthless. Just as his mate was, if you think about it." He replied in a somber tone.

"In time, Bidziil learned our language and taught them about his tribe's customs. Wherever Gideon went, Bidziil insisted on going with him. He was like a shadow to his mate, who eventually - as all mates inevitably do - accepted him in some way. Bidziil never allowed Gideon's female partner to share his bed ever again, he threatened to kill her but Gideon did not let him." He informed us with some dread in his tone.

"Soon, Gideon's pack became known as the pack with two Alphas. With the undefeatable Bidziil by his side, waging wars and taking names, Gideon's pack grew stronger with unparalleled force. He expanded his trading agreements with other tribes and the couple became a force to be reckoned with. No one dared to challenge them, not enemies and much less their own pack members." He said with admiration for the two men.

"But the legend of Bidziil didn't stop there. He was also the first man mated to an Alpha to give him children. Oh yeah, Bidzill was what we now know as an Omega, but in his tribe he was simply known as two-spirit. When he became pregnant for the first time, they had to bring a special midwife from his old pack to tend to him. It was the only time when Gideon wouldn't leave his pack. He didn't want to travel without his mate by his side, protecting him." He spoke with deference and respect.

"When people heard his name, they trembled in fear. He was not a 'sissy' or whatever homophobic slur they used at the time, he was simply Bidziil. The Alpha's mate. The undefeated warrior. The two men led their pack for decades until it was time for their son to carry on their leadership, but Bidzill was never defeated in combat. He died one day after his mate died, broken hearted for having lost the love of his life. He was in his seventies. But the legend of Bidziil remains to this very day to teach us about not dismissing anybody at first sight. You never know when you're going to find a person who will be your undefeated Omega." He concluded, tenderly looking at the Omegas in class.

Oh my Goddess... Not where I thought this story was going. I am in awe.

"I know exactly what you mean, Professor." Skylar muttered, looking at me from his seat.

When I exited the classroom, there was a Security Officer waiting to escort me to the third tower - no student enters there without permission - where the Lockwoods were waiting for me. I entered the Headmaster's office timidly, bowed my head to the Alpha as I was introduced to her by Jayden, who seemed excited for this meeting to finally take place.

"So, you are the boy who turned my son against me." She began with a challenge right off the bat. The intimidating woman was wearing a pantsuit, her hair was dark as the night. She has her father's eyes but her mother's skin tone. Her husband seemed excited to see me. He was wearing jeans and a sweater. He seemed like a soccer dad, at first impression, just happy to be there for his son.

"No, I am not. I never once told him to rebel against you and I declined his marriage proposal exactly because of you. What I don't know is why you never wanted to meet me in the first place. Unless he lied, I don't know what your father could have possibly told you about me that presented me as an unfit partner for your son. Unless being poor is an offense, in which case there is nothing I can do about that." I stood my ground against the Alpha and Jayden gasped in shock at my response. Her father was no longer here because she had previously asked him to give us the room.

Alpha Lockwood stared at me up and down before she began to discourse about what she had heard of me, what was true and what was not. Of course, everything was true but it was spoken as if her father had rescued me from the slums of Colorado and given me room and board. As if...

She interviewed me thoroughly just as I expected her to and we talked for hours until it was time for dinner. Jayden rarely chimed into the conversation, leaving us to debate at will. Her husband also barely interjected for he knew it was important to let his partner have her turn.

I told her all about my life, from where I grew up to what my mother does. She asked me why my father was not in the picture, but I told her you'd have to ask him. He lives in Texas, if you want to call him. Not that he knows anything even remotely relevant about my life.

I don't know what she made of me, but I listened closely to all the things she said. She is a remarkable woman, not that I expected any different.

A|N: Like a crybaby, I started to tear up as I wrote the conclusion of Bidziil's story.

It's very relatable to queer people, at least it seems that way to me. We are so often underestimated.

I am sorry I didn't get into the meat of the chapter, I overwrote the prologue.

But soon all will be revealed.

Including a secret that will derail someone's happiness. Oh well...

Next is "Impossible". The thing you have all being waiting to happen... it's about to go down! The two part dramatic event you won't want to miss! Things will never be the same again after this. #TeamSkake #TeamJayke

Love,

Léo.
