Chapter 18: I am a deviant.

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

I groaned, slowly opening my eyes. My complete vision was hazy, as I shakily rubbed my eyes. Realizing I was in the evidence room, I instantly shot up and froze. My breathing gradually slowed down, as I remembered what had happened.

Connor had knocked me out, telling me it was the best for me. As if!

I shook my head and got up, still feeling a little pain in the back of my head. Gavin laid right next to me, causing me to grimace. If he hadn't been found yet that meant that the FBI hadn't been here so far. Not much time could've passed. I needed to disappear and find Connor, otherwise I surely would be stuck in the police station. Moreover, I needed to stop my partner from making a huge mistake. I knew he had gone to Jericho to take care of his mission. I needed to remind him that he was more than a tool of CyberLife. Taking a deep breath, I checked the gun in my holster and then ran outside the room, praying that I wouldn't meet the FBI on my way.

. . .

The night air was freezing, as I stood in front of the carrier, moderately rubbing my arms. On the way here, I had shortly stopped at a clothing store to buy a black leather jacket, a same colored shirt and a pair of jeans to better fit in with the deviants. On top of that, I had gotten a black beanie so I could hide my forehead, in case someone suspected that I had no LED. If I wanted to get inside, I needed to infiltrate the place, pretending to be a lost android as well. Clothes like these definitely underlined such an image. Focusing my (E/C)-colored eyes on Jericho, I started marching off. I needed to act fast if I still wanted to make it in time. Before a catastrophe would happen.

Entering the freighter, I tried to act natural, which was admittedly hard when knowing that the ship would soon be under attack and partly being a cause of that. I wished to warn the people here but who would ever listen to a random person? On top of that, as good as I had gotten to know Connor, I was aware that stopping him needed to be my first step. He surely would try to do something incredibly stupid that would put himself in danger. Something I did not intend to let happen.

I quietly strolled through the carrier, dragging my feet over the wet ground, searching for Markus, the deviant's leader. With the help of the news, I had acquired the knowledge of what he looked liked. When he and a few other androids had protested on the streets, his face had been visible. I let my gaze wander across the different groups of deviants, noticing how many actually were here. I needed to hurry. Otherwise, they all would get hurt or even die.

"Hey, wait a second!" I heard someone call out to me from behind, hence I stopped and turned around.

A young man with brown hair approached me, wearing a skeptical eypression. Oh great...

"Is something wrong?" I innocently asked, blinking a few times.

"Yes, I've never seen you here before. How can I be sure you are no enemy?" His voice was rather deep for someone who embodied a young adult, causing me to feel the urge to shiver, yet I suppressed it.

I slightly coughed and stretched out my left hand, hoping my plan would work. "I'm a little damaged so it usually takes time but just look..."

I mumbled, now focusing on deactivating the skin on my android arm. Being a cyborg had to come in handy eventually.

The android squinted one eye, waiting and as I was about to panick, the surface of my hand haltingly turned white. As soon as he saw that, the man smiled apologetically. "My bad, but you can never be careful enough. Welcome to Jericho, my friend."

I nodded as he put a hand on my shoulder, slightly shifting my weight.

"Say, do you think you can help me?" I carefully inquired, earning his interest.

"Go on." He motioned with one arm towards me.

"Since I just got here, I was looking for Markus. I really wanted to thank him and ask a few questions. Do you know where I can find him?" I tilted my head, trying to sound as sincere as possible.

The brown haired android parted his lips, shrugging his shoulders. "Right now he is talking to North and Josh but after that, you can go look for him in the abandoned upper part." I thankfully nodded, casually distancing myself from the man.

After I spotted him leaving, I hurried over to a few stairs leading up to another area of the freighter. I hoped I would find Connor in time. Quickly ascending the steps, I noticed a female android with only the half of her head approaching me. I gasped upon seeing what had been done to her.

"You are afraid. Hurry and dissipate your worries."

I blinked a few times, confused as to why she would say such things to me but before I could ask her, the dark skinned woman had already left me. Shaking my head, I focused again on the matter at hand. Searching for my partner.

I ran upstairs and passed a few meaningless doors, hereafter starting to feel perspiration drip down my forehead. Where else could I look? Was I already too late? I bit my lip, staring at my surroundings. Then, in the back of everything happening I noticed another exit, which was currently opened by a female android. She walked down another staircase. Was that the correct way? I hoped to be right now. Time was running away and I couldn't stop it. So I desperately needed to keep up with its pace.

I sprinted over to the door, fiercely opening it. Once I stepped outside, I noticed a seperate part of the freighter a few feet away. That had to be the section I was looking for!

I quickly moved across the ground, heading for the area, which I assumed was some kind of cabin. I soon arrived a few more steps, hastily running up. I felt my mouth go dry, as soon as voices echoed through my ears.

"You don't have to be their slave anymore..."

It was an umfamilair voice, yet sounded fairly convincing. I guessed it was Markus. There was no reply. I reached the top of the stairs and turned around a corner, spotting the entrance to the cabin. Gulping, I moved closer to the open gate.

"Do you never have any doubts? You've never done something irrational, as if there's something inside you?.. Something more than your program."

I now arrived at the scene, seeing Connor aim a gun at the deviant's leader. I gasped, upon witnessing that. Markus noticed me, his eyes shortly widening. My partner hurriedly shot a glance over his shoulder, apparantly freezing once he recognized me. He quickly turned back to face the other male across from him.

"(Y/N) stay back." Connor's voice appeared to sound solemn at first, however, I was able to see how much insecurity was within it.

"No Connor, I won't. You can't tell me to do anything, as much as CyberLife can't and shouldn't control you anymore!" I exclaimed, my voice steady.

I noticed how my partner took a few steps to the side, the gun still pointed at Markus, who merely watched what happened. Now, Connor stood in a position, he was able to see both me and the deviant leader.

"Connor, I have told you several times before, you are your own person. You are not their little tool anymore. Why do you let yourself be used in such a way?" I pleaded, squinting my eyes. The hazel brown haired android's gaze met my own, fear in his pupils.

I carefully took a step forward. "Being an android doesn't mean you need to obey someone's every word. You are allowed to live like any human. You are allowed to feel like us all. I have explained it once and am willing to do it twice," I argued, putting a hand over my heart, "You don't need to be afraid of changes. You have people by your side."

I exhaled, shortly closing my eyes. Time was still running away.

"(Y/N)-"

I stopped my partner in the middle of his sentence. "Listen to me. If you believe you have lost your reason to exist, you are wrong. You don't need to live for CyberLife and their manipulative orders."

Another time, I partly moved forward.

"You have a family now. Hank will be by your side. I can see how much he treasures you. You are like a son to him!"

Once more, I stepped forward, barely two feet away from him anymore.

"You have me now."

With quivering lips, I parted my lips again, gathering all my strength to voice what I had wished to say for a while now. "I can't and don't want to live without you anymore. I love you Connor." With another move forward, I reached my partner, gently lowering his gun.

The android in front of me stared at me, obviously baffled. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Markus slightly moving towards us. "It's time to decide."

For a moment, Connor solely stared at me, as if lost deep in his thoughts. Then within one glance, he widened his eyes, as if having just realized something crucial. Softly, he grabbed my hand, which was still covering the gun.

"(Y/N)..." Was all he mumbled, before turning to Markus with guilt in his eyes.

"They're going to attack Jericho..."

The deviant leader stared at us, nonplussed. "What?.."

I turned around to face him. "We need to evacuate this place, now!"

Upon hearing loud noises, we all stared at the ceiling for a second.

"Shit..." Markus cursed underneath his breath, immediately running outside. Connor glanced at me, gave my hand a squeeze before hurrying after the deviant leader, accidentally dropping his gun in process. I wanted to say something but it was too late as I rapidly followed him. Outside, helicopters were passing us, making me grit my teeth. I should've been faster.
