Chapter Nine

Here you guys go!!!!! This one was our shortest, so we had to describe some random stuff. (Maddie is the best at fluffing stuff up. -Not Maddie) But here it is! I hope you enjoy!

Everyone stared at Gavin in horror.

He stared back at them, laughing and crying and completely unaware of what was happening to him.

Preston came over and dragged Gavin away from the girls.

The crying turned into sniffles, and the laughter into giggles.

"Dude are you okay?" Preston asked. Gavin tilted his head to stare at Preston. "I mean like, you're creeping me out." Gavin tried to say something, but he started laughing even harder. Preston dragged him over to the other couch, and he immediately stopped laughing and crying.

"Are. You. Okay?" Preston asked sternly.

"What do you mean?" Gavin asked.

"You started laughing and crying at the same time," said Maddie, rushing over.

"Someone's concerned!" Gavin teased.

"About one of my best friends? Yeah, I am," she snapped back.

"Yeesh! Defensive much?" Gavin mumbled. Maddie just rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.

"So what did happen to you, Gavin?" Grace asked.

"What?" he inquired with a shake of his head. "Nothing happened."

"What do you mean 'nothing happened'? You were hysterical!" Preston shifted his spot so he would hear Gavin's answer better and see his facial expression.

Gavin responded slowly. "No, nothing happened."

"Liar," Maddie spat, her eyes flaming.

Gavin looked really confused now. "Maddie, honestly, I'm not lying to you," Gavin told her.

"You know," Jillian offered. "when you burst out laughing and crying at the same time?"

"Huh? What do you mean? I didn't-"

Gavin was interrupted by a knock on the door. He turned his head, expecting the only kids who actually lived there to get it.

"Oh no, you're not off the hook yet, mister," Maddie chastised.

"Fine. But are you going to open the door?" Gavin asked boredly.

"Mom has her key, and dad is out of state on a business trip, so I don't think they're home. We shouldn't open it. Stranger danger and all," Grace responded.

Someone banged on the door, each time getting louder.

"Let me in!" a rough voice called out.
