7. Truths and Lies

~ There is a hell lot of difference between what you think is truth and what actually is truth~

Shaheen stood still at the Pune airport, the passengers around her walking ahead lively. It had been five years since she left the city, and the country. Five years she ran away from everybody, from him. Shaheen was still yet to know what exactly had happened after she left, and it was getting on her nerves now. The phone call from Samaira had really shook her. She could not, even for a nanosecond immagine that Roshni, the liveliest and jolly person she had ever known was reduced to bed.

Shaheen's trance broke when she saw Samaira walking towards her with a man she didn't recognize.

"Shaheen!", Samaira's voice was heavy and it took them a second to take each other's appearance, and believe that they were really standing facing each other.

" Samy!", Shaheen cried as she hugged her and Samaira couldn't help but feel a sense of relief flodding her. Samaira had always been the strong one, the friend everybody looked up to expecting her to have the remedy of every problem in the world. But whenever she was with Shaheen, she didn't feel that way. Just a small 'Samy' and she would feel safe from every devil around.

" Shaheen, i- I missed you", Samaira held her close as the two best friends shed tears, and even Neil had misty eyes witnessing their reuinons.

"Girls, lets go home. You can cry there", Neil teased and earned a whack on his shoulder from his lady love.

"Oww", he acted like he was hurt but Samaira paid no heed, resulting in Neil pouting like a small kid, which in turn made all the three of them chuckle.

" Shaheen! Meet Neil, he is my boyfriend", she blushed a little while Shaheen was astonished.

" Finance", Neil corrected, showing their rings to her.

" Congratulations girl. I am so happy for you", Shaheen smiled hugging her again and Samaira just giggled.

Oh! What on earth could Neil give to have her smiling and giggling like that, always?

"Lets head home?", Neil aksed and the girls nodded, walking towards the car.

The gates of their happy memories opened again when Shaheen entered the apartment that had been second home to all five of them. Nothing much had changed.

"You didn't even change the curtains?", Shaheen giggled and Samaira laughed.

" Nothing could match your choice", she pointed towards them and Shaheen just shook her head at the babyness in her voice and Neil laughed at her.

" Everything is the same Samy, these couches, the curtains, the kitchen settings", Shaheen chuckled.

" Yes because I didn't want you to not find any ingredients in the kitchen if you decide to make Biryani for us", Samaira chuckled, silently expressing her wish too and Shaheen giggled.

A sound broke their precious chat and Neil and Samaira exchanged glances before Neil ran to the source of sound- Abhi's room.

The glass of water lay on the ground as Neil reached and found Abhi trying to sit. He ran to him and helped him sit, and then gave him a glass of water. Abhi finished it in a go and looked at Neil with eyes that showered gratitude.

"Abhi", Neil called him out to see something in his eyes, anything that would make him see like a person who is alive.

Abhi looked at him, even though it hurt him to raise his eyes. He had no energy, and no zeal either.

" Shaheen is here", Neil expected him to react and he did. A shine made its way into those orbs, and Neil could just smile in amazement that if Shaheen's name did that to people, what would she do?

But sooner than it came, it was lost. The shine was lost, and something else peeked through his eyes. Neil could not understand what, but it made him curious.

Though, before he could react, he saw Abhi's eyes rolling back and he fell on the bed, his hands laying limp on sides. Neil panicked and reached for his pulse and it didn't help to find it irregular and slow.

" Samaira", Neil called out as he rushed into the kitchen and Samaira and Shaheen ran towards him.

" What's wrong?", The fear in Samaira's voice alerted Shaheen.

" He fainted, again. Prepare some electrol now and bring to his room", Neil instructed and ran to prepare the saline bottle and the injection.

Samaira ran to the kitchen and Shaheen followed her, watching her prepare everything urgently and then running towards a room.

Nothing in the world could have ever prepared Shaheen for the sight she met. She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw him lying there, unarmed, vulnerable. Tears ran down her eyes when she took in his frail figure. This wasn't the Abhi she had in her memories, all this while.

"Abhi", a whisper escaped her lips that caught Samaira and Neil's attention. By then Neil had given him IV saline and his pulse was slowly coming back to normal.

Samaira rushed to Shaheen for she was the only one who had known what had been kept hidden from everyone else, even from Abhi, Kabir and Roshni. Only she knew why had Shaheen left all of them five years ago so hastily.

" He will be fine", she tried to console Shaheen but Shaheen's eyes were struck at Abhi. The lean shoulders, the dark circles beneath his once handsome eyes, the flicker of pain etched on his face.

" Ya Allah! What has happened Samy?", Shaheen questioned and Samaira looked up at her, teary eyed.

" Kabir holds Abhi responsible for Roshni's condition. He cursed him for breaking Roshni's heart-", Samaira could not continue because Shaheen cut her in between.

"What? Abhi broke Roshni's heart? How is that even possible?", Shaheen exclaimed taking everybody by surprise.

" He did that Shaheen. I know it's shocking to take in but-", Samaira wanted to clarify so that Shaheen didn't start hating Abhi too, but Shaheen rapidly shook her head indicating a no.

"No Samaira, Abhi- he loved Roshni. I know he did", Shaheen's words took Neil and Samaira by complete surprise.

" We have to go to Mumbai Samy. As soon as we can. This is wrong. Very wrong. Allah!", Shaheen was fighting hard to stop her own tears.

Only if all of then know how many ' 'wrongs' they had believed to be 'right' and how many 'right' they had ignored under misconceptions.

A groan brought them out of their trance. Abhi was restlessly moving in the bed and seeing him in that condition, Shaheen rushed to his side, placing her hand over his forehead, running her fingers through his hairs. Her one hand tightly gripped his left hand.

" Ammi", a moan escaped his lips and that took Shaheen by surprise.

" Ammi? Since when did he start adressing aunty as ammi?", Shaheen frowned and it nearly made Samaira break down again remembering the chain of events. Neil held her by shoulders to provide her support.

" Ammi isn't his mother. Ammi is Mrs khan, the owner of the orphanage you lived in", Neil disclosed and Shaheen was again bowled over.

What was happening? She needed answers and this time, more clearer ones.
