You're My Hero.
Janet's P. O. V
I give him a dumbfounded look after I ask him that question. This guy is claiming that my cousin went to a lake to attempt suicide because supposedly 'For her first love, she was just a summer fling'. I feel like throwing my sneakers at him but I have to refrain from doing that because of the damn promise I made in the beginning.
In short, my patience is wearing off and I don't really think I will be able to maintain this cool look for very long now. To top all of that, he decides to confuse me even more.
"She did realise that she had lost the bracelet. The very next day, while I was at the Great Escape, the restaurant near the Central Park, she came rushing in, searching for the bracelet."
"Honestly, I wanted to keep it, but when I saw her face, I decided to give it back to her. So while she was still searching all the tables where she thought she dropped it, I walked near her and very slyly placed it on one of the chairs," he explains and I nod.
"She found it and returned home happily," he says before glancing at me.
"So, how did you get it back?" I ask him and he bites his lower lip before looking the other way.
"Well, the first day of school, after the summer break, she wore it to school. She kept it in the locker and I tried really hard to control myself but I couldn't, and I ended up taking it from there. Luckily, she didn't come to take it from the locker after school and kind off forgot about it since then," he explains and I frown at him.
"Why would you want the bracelet so desperately that you robbed it from her locker?" I ask and he looks at me sadly.
"I like her Janet. She's the only one I have ever liked or felt for in this way. The bracelet was like a momento for me. It reminded me of that one lucky hour I spent with her. That's why I got selfish. I'm sorry," he says and even though I am really angry right now, I nod in understanding.
"It's okay. I'm guessing you're the one who took it from my locker and placed it in hers?" I ask and he nods.
"I'm guessing you were going to do the same thing, right?" he asks and I nod again.
I'm nodding too much today.
"What were you doing here yesterday so late?" I ask and he starts fiddling with his fingers.
"I was finishing the work in the auditorium that you were supposed to do," he says and I furrow my brows at him.
"Why would you do that?" I ask and he shrugs.
"Just compensating," he says and I look at him like he just declared he is pregnant, which is technically not possible, but so is this.
"So you did all of that? All the work and those ten different handwritings, all of that was done by you? What exactly were you compensating for that you had to-Wait..." I pause when finally the wheels in my brain start turning. He just gives me a full blown smile.
"You can write in ten different styles, so that means that those suggestions because of which Kiara won... you did that? You put those suggestions in?" I ask, my jaw already half open because of the shock. He just looks at me and that look is enough to give me my answer.
I shake my head in disbelief. This guy is more complicated than my earphones after I remove them from my pocket.
"Since when do you like Kiara?" I ask him and he gives me a meaningful look, a look that expresses alot of things without exchanging a single word. It creates that immediate connection through which I could basically feel his emotions coming through.
"Since a long time."
Like it isn't obvious after that look.
"You express alot through your eyes. You would make a good actor..." I say just before it snaps in me.
He smiles and nods but his smile disappears the minute he witnesses my expression.
"You're my hero! You can be the actor of the drama this year!" I exclaim and he gets up with a jerk and moves backward in shock.
"No no no no-" I cut him off.
"You have to Jason, please? I'd do anything for you! I'll introduce you to Kiara! You can be friends with her!" I say and he shakes his head.
"Are you crazy Janet! Just look at me! I was the laughing stock for the entire school when I was in middle school. I have finally moved out of that spotlight, I don't want to fall in it again-" he starts rambling and I move towards him before placing my hands on the shoulder.
"Jason, calm down. Nothing like that will happen, okay? Trust me. Anyway, I know for sure that there is no one better for this than you. You'll do a great job. As far as everything else is considered, I'll handle it," I explain but he still shakes his head.
I move back and cross my arms on my chest.
"Okay, if you want to do it this way, then so be it. I didn't want to use this card, but you're forcing me. If you don't agree to this, I may be forced to spill the beans-" I didn't even have to finish my sentence.
"Fine! I'll do it," he says and I smirk victoriously at him.
"Good."
******************************
"Good? That's what you are going to say after I tell you my miseries? What kind of a cousin are you?" I ask Kiara who is sitting across me on the lunch table, busy munching on her food.
"You deserve it for waking me up early in the morning today," she says and starts munching on her food again. I frown at her and sit back, finally thinking about whatever happened today. It just happened too fast for to me understand anything.
Steven gets to know my secret. I had not even imagined he would be the first person to know about it.
Jason's confession. To say it's shocking is an understatement.
Kiara's secret lover. Who the hell is that? Why didn't she tell me?
Jason being able to get in and out of lockers so easily. How does he even do it? Why hasn't he been caught? Our school should seriously consider installing cameras.
That guy who met Steven. Who the hell was he? Why was he wearing such a tacky jacket?
Really Janet? Your worried about his tacky jacket?
Who the hell were they talking about?
"Janet, D1 is calling you," Kiara's voice breaks me out of my reverie. My eyes widen and I snatch the phone from her hand.
I disconnect the call and then type a quick message to D1 a.k.a Diane, asking her what happened.
Kiara just furrows her brows at me and I give her a nervous smile. She let's it go and starts eating again.
Just then Diane's message comes.
Hey,
We have got the date and the location for the ballroom routine. I just wanted to remind you about it. I'm in no hurry but try to do it as soon as possible.
Love, Diane.
Yeah, my dance routine. Also, I have to select a script. I need to find Steven to decide that. I should have just taken his number. I could have easily done it on my own but I don't want to fall in extra trouble in case Mrs McCartney decides he needed to be a part of the process.
"Kiara, I'm going in search of Steven," I tell her and she gives me a mischievous smile.
"What?"
"Nothing."
"No, that smile, why did you smile like that?" I ask her and she shakes her head, her smile intact.
"Nothing. Oh by the way, before I forget to tell you, we are celebrating today in the evening, at the Great escape, the restaurant near the central park. Finish all your work before that," she yells from behind me and I nod.
So I have a search to complete and a celebration party to attend, how fantastic. Can this day get any more eventful?
