Trevor Hunt.

Janet's P. O. V

"You sure you're okay?" I ask a half drunk Kiara who just landed flat on her ass on the wooden pier.

We finally, after all the trouble, after all the falling and swaying, made it safely to the park. It's getting darker and the air around me cooler.

I settle down next to a melancholic Kiara, making the wooden planks underneath me creek in response. Normally when she's drunk, she behaves extra stupid. Right now, for some reason, she's extra serious.

I place my hand on Kiara's cold one and she she turns to look at me. The sadness in her eyes makes me blanch and my breath gets stuck in my throat. Suddenly, after all these years that I have known her, I don't know what I can do to help her, to erase the sadness.

"You remember Tyler Woods?" she asks me, her voice barely audible.

"Yeah, how can I forget him. Your dream boy. The reason of you're wattpad addiction. You're fantasy," I rant and she blinks really slowly, looking ahead in space.

Kiara had never liked reading. She hated books. They were boring for her. All that had changed when I returned from the summer camp. She had this new hobby and she used to remain stuck to her phone for hours, reading on wattpad. When she was not reading, she was obsessing over Tyler Woods, her favourite character. She saw everything she wanted in him.

A small smile forms itself on her face. "I owe him. He's the reason I didn't lose myself."

My confusion only soars higher along with my curiosity. "What do you mean?"

"You always used to tell me that reading can be therapeutic. It helps you forget reality. That summer I wanted to do just that. So I found Wattpad. For the first two days I used it for five minutes before closing it. Just the day I decided to quit it I found Cupid Calling Cupid and I found Tyler Woods."

She put her head in my lap and lay down on the wooden pier. I ran my fingers through her hair, patting her head with my other hand.

"He provided the escape that I needed. The book provided the escape that I needed. It made me believe in love again. It made me believe, that maybe somewhere, I may just find my Tyler Woods."

You already have a Tyler Woods, Kiara. You already have a guy who is head over heels for you and can do anything just to make you smile.

I almost wanted to tell her this, but I didn't. I didn't because I wanted to know what was it that she wanted to escape.

"You will Kiara. I promise. But, what was the matter? What were you trying to forget?"

"Trevor Hunt," she replied and a lone tear ran down her face, falling onto my wrist. Then she told me exactly what happened to her.

"The summer that you went away, I missed you. I was bored. So when I got to know about this activity place near the country side, I was beyond excited. They had alot of training courses going on along with some fun activities. I signed up and that's where I met him."

"He had a good sense of humour, a good body, sexy smile and very soft hair. So, it was obvious, I liked him at first sight. He liked me too because when he was given a chance, he picked me as his partner. Finally something good was happening and I was loving it. We did activities together, we sang, we played, we high fived, we pranked together. We only didn't fall in love together. Only I fell, alone. I fell really hard Janet. It hurt."

Her voice cracked in the end and tears came cascading down her cheeks. I swiped my thumb on her wet cheek, wiping her tears away.

"Shh, it's okay. You're fine now," I bend down and whisper in her ear. Her breathing slows down a little, coming back to normal.

"I fell, he didn't. He just pretended. The courses were coming to an end and I started making my interest very clear. He recognised it and showed he was interested in me too. Then there was the lingering stares, flirting, jealousy and closeness. Then it was time for the last evening out there. That was the best and worst time of my life. The best because of what I felt then. The worst because of what it makes me feel now."

"There was a camp fire organised but it started raining and everybody went inside. Everyone except for us. I was walking in when his fingers wrapped around my wrist, stopping me in my place. I turned to look at him and my heart fluttered. His hair was stuck on his forhead and rain drops trickling down his face. He looked ravishing but what affected me most were his eyes. The look in them, it made me melt."

"He pulled me closer till I could feel his warmth, tickling my skin. His hand was on my waist and we started swaying, the rhythm of the rain drops providing us the necessary music. For some time, we both just looked at each other, soft smiles on our face, moving slowly."

"You're a great girl Kiara. Anyone would be lucky to have you," he whispered slowly and I tilted my head to the side a little with a playful smile.

"But the question is, am I lucky enough to have the one that I want?"

She looked like she was in a daze, her eyes still staring in space, her breathing slow and body still. It pained me to see her like this, it hurt she had to bear this.

After a slight pause she continued in a strained voice, like it was killing her from within.

"And then he kissed me. It was not my first, but I wish it had been my first. It sent electricity running through my entire body, made my heart swell so much I felt it would burst. In all those days, he had behaved himself. Never touching me, never making a move on me. For me, in that time, he was the best thing that happened to me. He was the best thing until the next morning."

"Next morning he left a note which told me how desperate I was, how easy I made it for him to fool me. How he didn't take advantage of me because he thought I was trash and he doesn't do it with trash. How I was just a summ-er fling for him."

Her voice cracked in the end again and she was taking calming breaths, tears not stopping and a hard expression on her face.

My hands and jeans underneath were wet with all the crying we were doing. I didn't even realise when I burst out. My cheeks were damp and my eyes burnt. The last of the lot of tears rolled down my cheek and I wiped it away furiously.

I took a deep breath. I wiped Kiara's cheek and she looked at me, her eyes a perfect reflection of her broken self within. I gave her a smile.

"Everything will be okay. I promise."

She nods in my lap and we both look ahead at the night sky.

While I sat there, with my heart broken cousin in my lap, I decided something.

I decided I was going to tell her my secret.

She's my cousin and she deserves to know. I can't hide this from her, not after today.

Soft snores break my chain of thought and I look down to see Kiara sleeping.

I guess I'm going to have to carry her home today.

Just when I'm about to get up, I hear the wooden pier creek, alarming every nerve in my body.
