No One Takes You Seriously.

Question- Who do you think that guy from the park is?

#106 on the general fiction hot list yesterday! I'm so happy :)
Thank you so much guys, please keep voting and the others who shy away from showing their support, please don't do that :)

If you'll have liked even one chapter so far, please do hit that small star down, it'll mean alot to me:) it's difficult to come up with Ideas and sharing it publicly.
It's no fun if I don't have your support (:

Janet's P. O. V

"Thanks for coming guys!" I exclaim rather loudly, when the volunteers enter, saving me from the awkward moment. I step ahead and stand near the edge of the stage, my leg hitting the wooden border.

They all walk in and all of them murmur their replies before they start discussing among themselves. Everyone stands in a single file, between the seats of the auditorium.

I stand awkwardly there, waiting for them to finish. I was not blessed in the voice department, so I couldn't scream very loudly.

"Hey guys?" I say in the loudest voice I could muster, still failing to catch their attention. They were all having animated discussions.

"Hello, you guys mind paying a little attention?" Steven's voice thunders from beside me and I kind of jump in shock. I take a deep breath, to steady my heart beat and I turned to look at him, a hand on my chest. He's looking at them, slightly irritated. He looks at me and his expression softens slightly before creating some distance between us.

Everyone seems to have heard him and they're all standing in attention position, waiting for me to respond.

"Well, there are some roles that need to be filled in and the rest of them will form the very important back stage team. Whoever wants to take up the roles, can step aside for the audition," I announce and the people start shuffling, separating as they did so.

I move down, signalling the other three to step down with me.

Let's get down to serious business.

************************

"Son, she loves you and I know it because she's not my daughter."

I groan in frustration, running my hands down my face. Everyone around me show their displeasure too, some scoffing and some groaning just like me. This is like the tenth time this girl got the line wrong.

"I'm your daughter and he's not your son, he's ja-son,"Kiara yells seriously and she instantly turns to me with a goofy smile after the last part,"did you get it?"

She chuckles and that's the only sound echoing in the room. Everyone is looking at her with an annoyed expression and she realises it. I give her a weird look myself.

"No? okay," she murmurs and looks at everyone awkwardly before sinking in her seat.

Allie, one of the members of the backstage team rolls her eyes at Kiara and scoffs. I see Jason giving her 'the look'. Allie then starts to move towards me but suddenly-

She falls face first on the ground. The entire auditorium echoes with the sounds of laughter. I cover my mouth to control myself but my cousin, who is right there, makes no such effort. I look at Allied, not moving, maybe because of the embarrassment. I see Steven, who's lips are slightly twitched up at the corners, moving towards the poor girl.

Then, my eyes catch that slight moment, even though it happens very slyly and slowly. Jason's pertruded leg moved under the table again, his taunting smirk directed at Allie.

Oh my god he didn't.

And that's when I realise, the entire focus shifted from Kiara to Allie in absolutely no time.

Smart ass.

The entire crowd was still laughing uncontrollably at the expense of the poor girl. Steven picks her up and she immediately rushes out.

Oh no.

"Shut up everyone, that's enough," I yell and only Jason and Kiara seem to have heard me, because they stop, but the others remain unfazed.

I'm about to yell again when Steven's angry voice beats me to it.

"Well, if all of you found this experience so entertaining, I'm sure someone would love to volunteer to trip again so all the others can have a good laugh," he says and everyone falls silent again, before they all straighten up and start doing their work, pin drop silence in the auditorium now.

I bite my lip and turn to look at him. He smirks at me before whispering."No one takes you seriously."

I frown at him and look at the girl who auditioned, standing there nervously. I turn to her before sitting down angrily and screaming.

"Next."

**************************

"Hey, please can you get something for me from the canteen? I'm really stuck up in the auditions right now and I'm feeling very hungry, please?" I request Rani, my held out hand holding the money for the lunch. She looks at everyone around her nervously and then stutters.
"Actually...I'm heading out-"

I cut her off when I understand her answer."It's okay."

I turn around and shake my head at my stupidity, to think a stranger would bring lunch for me. My stomach, as if on cue, grumbles just then. I pat it before turning back to my table and the next girl waiting for her turn.

Just a little more-

I'm mentally consoling myself and I'm about to sit back into my seat when Steven out of nowhere comes to stand in front of me. He looks down at my fingers wrapped around the notes. He lifts his hand and takes my hand in his.

I take in a breath involuntarily, my body not ready for the sudden boldness that he shows. He unwraps my fingers with his, his skin slowly brushing over mine, making my heart beat faster and goosebumps making their way onto my skin.

No, I don't have feelings for him. It's just the shock of what's happening and the sudden proximity and the way he can just carelessly take my hand in his like he owns it and how he's not affected by any of it and-

Stop with the rant!

He takes the money and looks into my confused eyes for two seconds, before he sidesteps me and walks towards Rani, my money in his hand.

He smiles at her, a full blown smile and she stares at him like she's never seen a guy smile.

Yeah, he can smile at everyone but at me. I'm an alien na.

He says something to her, his smile intact and that girl is simply nodding dreamily. He holds out his hands to give her the money but he shakes her head and denies it, giving her a pearly white smile of her own.

She walks out of the auditorium and he walks back to me, his smile wiped off his face and his signature smirk back there.

He walks to me and grabs my hand again, slamming the money on it."I didn't even have to say please."

I gape at him and look down at the money before frowning at the direction in which the girl went.

She agreed because he showed her 32 teeth? Well, even I have those and I swear I brush twice a day.

"Don't bother Janet. I told you, no one takes kids seriously, especially not babies like you."

**************************

"Steven, come take this pencil and give it to Janet."

Kiara yells, holding out a pencil to Steven and he narrows his eyes at her before looking at my hand, that's already holding a pencil.

"She already has one," he retorts and she rolls her eyes before looking at me.

"But she wants this one, right?" she asks and I nod, before applying pressure on the pencil which leads to breaking of the nib.

He rolls his eyes at me before getting up from across me and walking to Kiara, who's sitting at the other end of the stage with Jason.

Well, he wanted me to be his bodyguard but he doesn't seem to mind Kiara's attention so much. Bloody hypocrite. I swear I saw him smile twice or thrice.

He comes back with the pencil and gives it to me, before sitting in his seat and evaluating the scores again.

We auditioned everyone and gave them scores according to me. Whoever would land up with the highest score would get the respective role.

"Oh Steven, wait, I forgot to give you the eraser. Please come take it and give it to Janet, how will she do the dialogue editing otherwise?" Kiara blinks sweetly at him, trying to sound guilty and sad but failing miserably.

I make a big scratch with the pencil on the paper and gasp."Yeah I guess I'll need one," I say sadly, mimicking Kiara's tone.

Steven clenched his jaw but got up to go anyway. He grabs the eraser from her and walks towards our table before chucking it at me. I glare at him which he matches with one of his own. He ran a hand through his hair before carrying on with his work.

"Steven!" Kiara screams again and this time he runs a hand down his face before snapping at her.

"Get your ass off that chair and do it yourself or ask your cousin to do it. I'm not your personal servant."

"You're my assistant and you work under me. I work under her, so that, indirectly makes you under her. Besides, I'm working and she has stuff that I need. I can't go, so you have to," I snap back, my patience long gone.

He gets up angrily, his chair falling behind and the cluttering sound making me flinch slightly.

He walks out there and takes the scale and sharpener that Kiara had held out before gritting out.

"Is there anything else I can do for you, your highness?" he asks and Kiara smiles before nodding.

"Just give Janet my message, tell her, that I take her very seriously."
