Flashbacks.
Jason's P.O.V
"We need to talk," Janet catches me and pulls me to the nearing classroom.
I have been avoiding her since the first day, but today, I guess there is no escape. Today, I will have to tell her things that I have kept under wraps for years. Things that can affect her relationship with alot of people. I just hope she doesn't ask me too many questions.
She pushes me on a chair and she stands in front of me with her arms crossed.
"We have class, in like ten minutes..." I say and she frowns at me.
"I know that, but I also know that for this week all our first lectures are free because our teacher is sick. You only told me that, remember?" she reminds me and I nod.
"Why are you so submissive?" she asks and I'm a little taken aback.
Out of all the important things that she could have asked me, she chose this?
I just shrug in response.
"Okay. Let's start from day one. Why did you behave so weirdly with me on the first day?" she asks and I look her in the eye.
"How can you say my behaviour was weird when that was the first time you ever spoke to me?" I say and she looks flabbergasted with what I just said. She was clearly not expecting it.
"Okay, maybe I haven't spoken to you before, but I have spoken to other people and I know the general difference between normal and weird behaviour." she says and I sigh.
"If this is what you want to talk about, I'm leaving," I say and begin to leave when she blockes my way.
"Alright, fine. I'll get straight to the point. How did you end up having Kiara's bracelet?" she asks and my heart beat quickens.
I turn around, my back facing her now.
"I can't tell you that. Besides, even if I tell you, it's not like you're going to believe me," I say and she turns me around gently.
"I will believe you. At least till I find something that tells me otherwise," she says and I frown at her.
"So that means you are going to try to find something that tells you otherwise?" I ask and she rolls her eyes at me.
"No. I wouldn't try finding something on my own. But if something comes my way, by coincidence then I..." she says and I sigh.
"Listen, please tell me, I can't take this suspense anymore," she pleads and I bite my bottom lip before nodding my head.
"But promise me you won't beat the shit out of me at the end?" I ask and she thinks for a few minutes before nodding.
I move to sit on the desk and cross my legs before patting on the spot next to me.
"It's a long story, you might want to sit down," I say and she smiles at me before rushing to the table and settling down.
After she settles down, she looks up at me, eyes filled with curiosity. I clear my throat before starting.
"Do you remember last year, the summer you had gone away somewhere for summer school?" I ask and she nods.
"Well, this happened during that summer. One day I was sitting at the Central Park when..."
Flashback.
Jason's P. O. V
This park is my place of solace. It's the one place I can forget about all the shit that happens to me. That's exactly why I find myself sitting here everyday by the lake which is in the center of the park. The lake is artificially built, but it is beautiful none the less.
It is surrounded by well kept trees, with baby pink and light purple flowers. There were lamp posts with benches. There are concrete railing with intricate designs which kind of gave it a palace like feel.
That's when the sound of clattering of a bottle catches my attention. I turn around to look at none other than, Kiara Adams.
I freeze on the spot. Well, how do you expect me to react when I see my crush, the girl I can never get?
The beer bottle had slipped from her hand and she is looking at me with a tilted head, a cute frown resting on her face.
She walks forward but she loses balance and is about to fall, when I save her, just in time. She is heavily drunk and she looks at me like she's in deep thought.
She pokes the tip of my nose with her finger and makes it flat. She removes the finger and then shakes her head. She looks cute as fuck right now and I'm trying really hard to control my laughter.
"Do I know you, you little boy?" she asks and I nod. She covers her mouth dramatically like I wasn't supposed to know her.
"Are you friends with Janet?" she asks me and I shake my head. She then gives me a wide slurry smile.
"Good. Now let me go," she says and pushes herself out of my hold. In that attempt, her bracelet falls down. She starts walking ahead and I pick the bracelet up. I raise my head to tell her about it when I see she's ready to launch herself into the water.
I quickly ran to her and held her from the back.
"What the hell are you doing?" I ask her and she gives me a mischievous smile.
"I'm here to suicide!" she raises her fists in the air like she is declaring her victory and I laugh out loud.
Yes, I laugh out loud because the lake is an artificial lake, hence it's not deep. If we stand in it, we would probably be submerged only till shoulder level. So you can't use it to suicide. A drunk Kiara found the right place to drown.
"Why do you want to suicide?" I ask her and she puts her fingers on her lips.
"Shh! Don't tell anyone," she says and I nod.
"Well, I want to suicide because I don't believe in love anymore," she says.
"You don't?" I ask and she clicks her tongue.
"Why?" I ask. She gives out a humorless laugh.
"Well, because for my first love, I was just a summer fling," she says and I can see the tears collecting in her eyes.
I feel the urge to wipe them and hold her close. I can probably do that as well, since she's not going to remember this anyway, but I don't. For some odd reason, I don't.
"You shouldn't stop believing in love though, because it does exist," I tell her and she looks at me and I blanch at first because of the intensity in her eyes.
"How can you say that?" she asks me and I hold her chin before turning her face on the other side to show her what I come here to see, everyday.
"Look," I point out and she does.
There was an old couple there. The man had snaked an arm around the old lady's waist, his head on her shoulder. The woman is smiling and feeding the squirrels who gather their food and run to their tree immediately.
She then threw crumbs for the birds, all the while smiling. She looked at the sky which looked beautiful against this setting. It is clear that the scene is bringing peace and satisfaction to the women.
And the man, he is looking at her like she is the most beautiful thing he has ever come across. The sight of nature bought peace to the women's heart and the sight of her happy bought peace to the man.
"Oh my god, this is so cute," she gushes, smiling like a fool.
"I know right," I say softly before continuing.
"This is why I still believe in love, after all that I went through. This is the best thing I have ever come across. All precious human emotions in one. The forever kind of love," I said while looking at the old couple,"emotion of satisfaction in other's happiness," I say then pointing to the lady feeding the birds, "And finally the one of unconditional friendship," I state while pointing at the group of squirrels, sharing their feed.
She chuckles and I glance her way and smile. I'm probably going to regret this later because I'm going to miss being able to stay close to her, but I don't have it in me to leave.
We stood there for a few minutes in a comforting silence before I heard soft snores.
Kiara had fallen asleep in my arms and I dropped her home.
Flashback over.
"So that's how I found the bracelet," I said she nods, lost in her thoughts. She has a sad and disappointed expression on her face and the reason is pretty obvious.
"She did realise she had lost the bracelet," I say and her eyes widen at that.
"Why am I saying my thoughts out loud today!" she exclaimes and I chuckle.
"No, you didn't say that out loud. I just guessed it. It was written all over your face," I say and she narrowes her eyes at me.
"So, she did realise she lost the bracelet?" she asks and I nod. She runs a hand down her face because I just confused her a little more.
"So how is it that you still have it!?"

A/N- don't kill me just yet ;)
Next update would be really soon, so you guys need not worry. Jason is not a freak, he's a pretty normal guy. It's just that he is to smart and sly.
So the curtain's are raised :D.
Jason is after all Kiara's love interest.
The old readers of cloak and Dagger who are reading this book again will find this scene familiar.
I wanted to majorly edit this book because it was not good but there were some scenes I just couldn't do away with. This one is one of them. It's still in a different context so I hope you guys don't mind :D
