xxvi. Trusting Me
Trusting Me
I wasn't going to lie, I was curious to what information Monica and Nathan had that you wanted. Yet, that was four days ago and you hadn't hinted to what that might've been. I followed behind you as you helped Danielle hang flyers up for the upcoming dance.
You had your back towards me as you taped one of the thousands flyers to the bare wall when I spoke to you.
"Are you going to that?" I asked, nodding to the flyer.
You said you weren't planning on it but if I wanted to go, you would change your mind and go to the dance. You arched an eyebrow at me and I could only imagine what was running through your head.
I didn't care much for Valentines but I knew you were a total love sap despite all the heartbreaks you had endured in less than a year.
Shaking my head, I said. "No. I don't want to be there if I don't have to."
"Well, you're in luck. I'm not going. I have a date with my lovely relaxing bathtub." You said, gaining my full attention.
"Oh really?" I smirked. "Mind if I join?"
Imagine all the fun we could have. Just us two without the eyes and ears of others. It's been awhile since we had any real alone time because of you prohibited me from coming into your room late at night.
"I don't know, Cipriano." You replied. "I didn't plan on anyone joining me."
I had promised you, I would make it worth your time and you thank me for it. You told me we would see about that and I took that a yes.
"It's a strong maybe." You corrected me as you continued to walk down the hall as I walked beside you.
"I'm sure I can change it to a definite yes." I said.
"By bribing me or bugging me until I give in?" You asked stopping to hang another flyer.
I thought about all the ways I could get you to cave in but I wouldn't act upon them for obvious reasons. Because even if you believed you were ready for something as simple as kiss, you weren't ready for me to relax with you in bath. I wouldn't cross that line just yet. I would be just as happy to watch you as you relaxed.
"Whichever one works in my favor." I responded. "But I think I know how to change your mind."
"And what's that?"
I grinned. "It'd ruin my chances if I told you."
"Sure, it would or you really don't have a clue on how to change my mind."
"Leave your balcony door unlocked and we'll see." I told you.
As we walked down the hallway, we passed by Mallory's office and she had wanted to speak to you about your personal problems. Yet, you didn't want to go into the details. You wanted her to forget you ever brought it up, fearing whatever you had said would reach Abe. Mallory understood where you were coming from and let the topic go. She still wanted you to forgive the two people who should never be forgiven. You had asked Mallory why you should forgive them and she told you it wasn't for Kyle or Sophie but for yourself. That weight you were carrying upon your shoulders could disappear if only you forgave them.
You told her, you would move on when you were ready and I believed you. After the session, you went to sale tickets, ditching Vance's class before it was time for lunch.
Early the next day, I arrived at your dorm room for your morning training. You got used to waking up and pretty soon, I didn't even have to wait longer than two minutes before you opened the door, ready for practice.
"You know when I think of training, I think of becoming stronger, faster and better in one song." You said as we walked into the gym.
I told you it wasn't a movie, as much as I would like it to be. Whatever happened, the story could only go two ways. In movies, you could predict what could happen but in reality, there were no predictions. Yes, Lily could see the future, but that's only if we allowed it to happen, and I didn't plan on letting Ramadi win. Whatever it takes, he's not walking away freely. If we lose, we don't get another chance at redemption. No one could stop him; not even you.
"I wish it was. I could've trained as Eye of the Tiger plays in the background and become the most dangerous person you have ever seen."
When I'm done with you, you will be. I thought to myself.
"Well, when your training is done, we will see how far you have come."
You smiled. "You mean when I finally kick your ass."
I rolled my eyes. "Let's get down to business."
I gave you black gloves for protection. Recently, I had changed from archery to hand to hand combat. You needed to learn how to protect yourself when your weapon was no longer an option. You had wanted to use a dummy instead of using me but I told you, you needed to see how it felt to hit a real body and get a reaction. If you were to use a dummy, it would stand there but using me, I wouldn't. I would react to your punches and kicks. You never hit me but I was showing you techniques you could use to take down your enemies.
I had seen the perfect opportunity to strike and you weren't expecting it as you stared at nothing in particular. You needed to learn to never let your guard down and right there was a perfect time to learn.
"Ow!" You yelled, holding the side of your face. "Did you just hit me?!"
I nodded. "I'm about to do it again if you don't focus."
"You aren't supposed to hit me."
"Says who?" I questioned, lifting an eyebrow. "Just because you're a princess, I'm not allowed to hit you?"
You nodded once. "That's how it goes. Yes."
"Not here, not with me. You need to learn how to throw a punch and take one. Out there, where our enemies are, they aren't going to care who you are and they're not going to easy on you and neither am I. I took it easy on you the first couple days but now, I'm your enemy and you do whatever you have to, to stop me."
You looked at me in disbelief, not wanting to fight me. I brought up the times you said you could kick me ass and you said you were just joking. You couldn't fight me because I was stronger and faster than you.
"True but so are they. You have an advantage. You're smaller than some of them. Use your height to your advantage. And the greatest weapon you have, your powers." I reminded you.
You said, you couldn't do it because you didn't want to risk having a black eye. I told I wouldn't hit you again. I would stop myself before I came into contact with any part of your body.
"You promise you won't hit my again."
I nodded. "I swear it. Not until I know you can take it. Now get into your stance."
After eyeing me, warily, we began training. I told you to search for a weak spot. I saw you look at me, searching for my weak spot but you wouldn't find it.
"It might not seem like someone has one but true me, everyone has a weak spot, an Achilles' heels." I said when I saw how uncertain you were.
"I don't see anything."
I advised you to look for certain things as favoritism or exposure. If you couldn't find anything immediately, then you were to attack. I wanted you to make the first move to take your enemies by surprise.
We trained for another hour before I ended training. On the way to the dorms, I heard Reid's protest. I glanced back to see him backing away from Lily.
"You should've never showed me how to do it if you didn't want me to do it." Lily told him, smirking.
"Not on me!"
"C'mon, Reid. It won't hurt that much." She replied,
"What is she trying to do?" You asked.
Reid grimes. "Something I regret showing her."
Lily had told him, she was going to do sooner or later and Reid might as well get it over with now. Sighing Reid, gave in and allowed Lily to try out her new move she learned on him. You had wanted to know why I didn't teach you how to do and I told you it wasn't at the top of my list. It was a simple move that wasn't important.
When we walked up the stairs, I asked you if we were still on for tonight.
You smiled. "Why don't you stop by and find out."
"You know I will." I said, smirking.
Before you walked into your room, you asked me what was my weak spot.
"Why do you want to know?" I asked.
Shrugging you said, "I never know when it might come in handle."
"Planning on taking me down?" I asked, arching an eyebrow.
You said not any time soon and you would keep me around a little longer as your play thing.
"Good to know I'm only here for your pleasure."
I knew you wanted me to tell you what my weak spot was but I couldn't tell you that. I could handle physical pain that wasn't the issue but when it came to you, I couldn't imagine you going through anything painful. Ever since, Kyle and Sophie hurt you, I realized exactly what my weak spot was.
You were my weak spot and I would damned if Ramadi and anyone else thought they could hurt you while I was still breathing.
The rest of the day went back accordingly. Talks about the dance later that night filled the air and I couldn't wait until everyone was at said dance so I could sneak to your room and spend as much time as you let me with you.
Never in my lifetime did I think I would see Vance giving Ms. Queen of icy stares flowers and to top it off a kiss and you thought the same thing.
"I can't believe we witnessed that." You said.
"Surprise is an understatement."
You changed the subject and asked me what time I would arrived back to your room and I told you, I would show up unexpectedly to sweep you off your feet. You had one condition and that was not to give you another heart attack. I learned my lesson the first go around. After giving you a kiss, I left. I thought of nothing else but of tonight.
Yet, our plans were canceled when Abe informed me that Marceau was coming to the school dance and I was to escort you both. I showed up to your dorm, not in the way I had hoped to but nevertheless, I was happy to the see you. I told you not the apologized after you did and you looked beautiful in your dress Lou had made. You stepped out your room and we walked to the front doors to the SUV. I opened the door for you just as I did for Marceau.
I got into the front seat and drove the short distance to the gym as you had a conversation with Marceau. He had made a promise to make this night enjoyable for you which was what I had planned to do before he had came along.
You gave my hand a quick squeeze as I helped you out the car before you links arms with Marceau. I walked behind the two of you and the crowd began to form once they had seen you and Marceau. I stepped in front of you as they got closer. Danielle introduced him to your friends before you went to dance to a slow song.
I gave you some privacy but stood close enough just in case something were to happen. I didn't think Marceau would try anything but you know.
You danced to another song before you sat down and Maya arrived by my side. I looked away from you to her.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey. So that's the fiancée, huh?" She said, nodding to Marceau. "I could see why she picked him." She joked, smiling. "He's hot."
I rolled my eyes. "Anyway, I've been meaning to talk to you. There's no point of us dating anymore now that Millie is engaged."
Maya nodded, knowing exactly where I was going with this.
"I figured. Thanks for being the best fake boyfriend ever." She told me before unexpectedly kissing me.
She walked away and I stood there, wondering why she didn't opt for kissing my cheek instead of my lips. I decided to ignored it as I walked around the gym turning my attention back to you.
Danielle got on the stage to make a speech about love or whatever. She wanted to make a special request that put you and Marceau in the spotlight. The crowd cheered for you both as you stood there, not knowing what to do. You followed Marceau to the stage a moment later. You grabbed a mic as Marceau went to the soundboard.
Music began to play and it was a song I had never heard before. It wasn't until you began to sing that I realize it was a song that was never created until now. I knew you wanted to sing to me as your eyes kept glancing over to me but you knew you were supposed to be singing to Marceau. And at the end of song, Marceau did the unexpected.
He kissed you and I knew I couldn't stop him only you could but you didn't move away. I walked outside, not because I was mad but because that would be your future if I couldn't figure out a way to stop it. At least a way that didn't up in my death. I was leaning against the gym wall when I heard the gym door open and I saw it was you.
You looked around no doubt searching for me and when you didn't see me, you turned to head back inside but I stopped you by closing the door and stepping into the light.
"What are you doing out here?" You asked.
Shrugging I said, "Needed fresh air. Why are you out here out?"
You said you were looking for me because you knew I was upset that Marceau had kissed you. I told you I wasn't mad
"You're not?" You said, confused,
"No. I'm not particular happy that some prince guy we hardly know about kissed my girlfriend but there's nothing I can do about. You're engaged to him and I can't stop that."
The next moment, you told me you could change what happened.
"I know something that Abe doesn't know I know about. It's the one thing that can finally allow us to be together without all the consequences." You informed me.
Here I was, worrying about our future and you had the key to our answer the whole time. I wanted to know in the next second what it was but you had seen Maya kissed me and you wanted to know why. I told you the reason behind the goodbye kiss and that we were no longer dating.
"Now, what's the only way for us to be together?" I asked.
I didn't think for once second that Allison was our key. That was the reason why you were so adamant to see Monica and Nathan. They knew Allison almost better than anyone else. They knew her life story. Her true story and that's why Abe had left her previous life a secret because she didn't come from a royal line.
"I'm sorry for not telling you about what I was doing. I didn't want anyone to know but of course Lily saw what I was going to do before I found out about Allison." You said.
I asked you what you were you planning on doing and you told me you were going to sacrifice everything for you sister and Lucas. You were going to marry Marceau and had the law removed.
"Do you realize what would've happened to us? We could never be together." I replied.
"I know that but I didn't know there was another way. I was going to tell you."
That was lie. We both knew that.
I shook my head. "No, you weren't. You were going to tell me something that would've broke my heart and yours. You would want me to leave you and get out your life so you wouldn't have to see the hurt on my face and realize the mistake you made. You would rather for me to hate you than knowing you were wrong and you were suffering living a life you didn't want. That's what would've happened and you know it."
You said we didn't have to worry about that anymore and we had the way to change Abe's mind. He would removed the law and we could finally be together without hiding.
I stared at you, thinking about how smart and determined you were to find a way for us. You kept the hope for the both of us and for that I was grateful. I kissed you, bringing you closer to me.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you. More than you know."
"You're underestimating me, Boo."
Yet, I knew you had me beat but a little bit.
When the day of the play arrived, you ran into a small problem. Ashley had gotten sick and you had to fill in for her. You had thought Ezra was joking when he said she was ill but he wasn't. You saw her for yourself and Ashely wouldn't be leaving her room for awhile.
"You know, you probably shouldn't have breathed the same air as her, right?" I said as we walked away.
"No, Hayes I didn't." You said, sarcastically. "I wanted to get as sick as she is. I probably should've hugged her for good measure."
I told you, I was just looking out for you because I didn't need you to die on me.
"Wouldn't dream of it."
We walked to your room and parted ways for a few hours until it was time to take you to get ready for the play. As we walked, I wasn't sure what the hell you were doing so I asked you and when you said you were dancing, I began to laugh.
"Are you done yet?" You asked with you hands on your hips.
I cleared my throat.
"Yeah I'm done. That's what you call dancing? I didn't think the play would be interesting to watch but if that's how you're going to dance, then I'm changing my mind."
You called me a jerk and I told you, I thought you were adorable but I wasn't sure others would think the same way.
"Who cares what they think. I'm going look awesome up there." You told me. "I just need to get the steps down first."
The play began, an hour later, and it was over in about two hours. I found you backstage and told you, you dance better than I imagined.
Crossing your arms over you chest, you said, "I told you, I'd look awesome."
I nodded. "You did and you looked amazing up there."
A second later, Abe joined us and in his hand were a banquet of flowers. He told you, you were incredible as he gave you the flowers. Once you changed back into normal clothes, we head to the mansion.
Everyone got out the vehicle except for Abe. You walked over to him, meaning to speak to him about Allison.
"We need to talk." You said. "It's important."
He nodded.. "Okay, we will." He paused. "When I get back."
"You're leaving? Where?"
"To Seattle. I have a meeting to attend." He looked down at his watch. "I'm supposed to be there earlier but I decided to stay for the play. I'm cutting it close but I promised I wouldn't miss the play. When I get back, we can talk."
When I heard Seattle, I was reminded of the information I had given to Ramadi. I couldn't stop Abe from leaving because if I did, he would want to know why, he couldn't leave. Everything was secure, hardly anyone knew about his trip. I only knew because he trusted me to not speak a word about it. A trust I have broken.
And because of that, Abe's plane never made it to its destination.
