xvii. Hiding Us

Hiding Us

You weren't looking forward to Monday. Neither was I at the time but later I was glad you did it. When you got into the car, I smiled at you through the mirror. I couldn't believe I had you back again.

We made it to the school and Sophie was surprised to see me again. Of course she was. Yesterday I told her I was leaving and yet here I was. She hugged me and I told her I wasn't going to leave. Not anytime soon.

I knew you were trying to avoid Kyle at all cost but it was inevitable. He found you during lunchtime. As much as I wanted to stay with you, you didn't want me to. So I walked into the cafeteria.

I looked at you the whole time. I wished I could hear what was going on.

You looked guilty and refused to look Kyle in his eyes. Kyle, on the other hand, looked upset. It's like whatever you told him upsetted him. I felt horrible. You obviously didn't want to hurt Kyle but she didn't have a choice. She's stuck in a hard place and a rock. Someone was going to get hurt. If it wasn't Kyle, it's me. I felt bad that she's going through this.

Kyle smacked the glass window with the palm of his hand, causing you to jump. Your hazel eyes instantly filled with fear as your head snapped up from the ground and stared at Kyle.

All heads turned to look at where the noise came from.

"You don't think he would hurt her, do you?" Reid asked.

"He's not going to get a chance to." I said as I walked towards the doors. I pushed it open and Kyle was begging you.

"Millie, please. We can make this work. Just please don't give up on us."

You shook your head. "I'm sorry, Kyle. I have to."

You slipped your hand from Kyle's and walked away from him. Kyle stood there utterly hurt. He didn't call after you. He just stood there, shocked from what happened. Then suddenly, he punched the window, repeatedly.

"Kyle stop." I told him but he didn't listen. "Kyle." I repeated, reaching out to touch his arm to stop him but he nudged me off. I scanned the halls and I saw two guardians walking, no doubt on lunch break. I called them over. "Take him somewhere and don't let him out your sight until he calms down."

"Yes sir." Paul said as he grabbed one side of Kyle and Rod grabbed the other side. I watched as they dragged him away.

I glanced back into the cafeteria and all eyes were watching. I looked at Reid and he mouthed what happened?

I shrugged, gesturing I didn't know. I walked away and went to find you. Not surprisingly, I found you in the music room, on the verge of crying.

I gathered you in my arms as you spoke.

"Do you think I'm a bad person?"

"No."

"Why?" You asked. "Why do you think that?"

"Because you're not capable of being a bad person. Even if you wanted to, you couldn't." I said, honestly.

"I feel like a bad person. I don't like hurting his feelings. Especially, not after what he's done for me."

I knew you were referring to the day Kyle stood up for you against that asshole named Steve. Thinking about that day, made my blood boil and I balled up my fists.

I blinked and shifted my eyes to yours.

"What did you tell him?"

You sighed. "I told him we couldn't be together anymore because we were eventually going to have to end it."

"He didn't take it so well." I stated.

You shook your head. "No, he didn't. He kept begging me to stay with him until the very last second before we had to go our separate ways and I kept telling him I couldn't. He wouldn't listen to me. He kept trying to fight."

"Why did he hit window?"

"Because he didn't believe me. He said he knew there was another reason why I was ending things and for a spilt second I thought he figured it out but then before you came he told me he loved me."

You glanced up at me. "That's why I asked you if I was a bad person."

After two months of knowing you, he fell for you and I didn't blame him, either. I did the same thing. It's kind of hard not to fall for you. You were simply amazing and perfect. I understood why he loved you and were willing to fight for you because she's worth it. Even if you didn't think so, you were.

I love you. There's no denying that and I knew you love me but there's one thing I didn't know. There's only one way to find out.

"Do you love him?" I asked.

You stayed silent and I began to worry. I began to think the worst and maybe you did love him. That maybe you were only with me because of my pathetic letter and you felt bad for me. But those thoughts and feelings vanished when you said..

"No, I don't love him. Don't get me wrong, I really and truly liked him and there was a slight chance for me to love him but that's before you confess your feelings to me."

You moved so your back wasn't pressed against my chest and sat so she couldd really look at me.

"Even then the chances were low. You were right."

I smirked. "I'm right about a lot of things." You hit me lightly on my arm and I chuckled. "But what am I right about?"

"You're right about us being together." You shook your head. "I don't know but when we're together everything just feels right. It feels complete."

"I'm glad you feel that way. I'd hate to think I'm in this alone." I joked, grinning.

You rolled your eyes. "Way to ruin the moment."

My grin widened. "Oh believe me, I can bring it back."

"Oh really? What are you going to do, Guardian Cipriano?"

"I mean we do have the music room to ourselves...." I trailed off.

"You're one naughty boy." You said, smiling.

I leaned closer to you so we're only inches apart. "And you're one naughty girl."

You cocked an eyebrow. "How so?"

"Because you're going to have a make-out session with this naughty boy."

I leaned forward and my lips pressed into yours as you wrapped your arms around my neck and your fingers braided themselves in my hair. You brought me closer to your small body and I encircled your waist with my arms.

Reid and Lily interrupted us. At the time I was annoyed by it but I was glad they did interrupted us. We were in the music room. Anyone could've walked in on us and that wouldn't had been good. I was your guardian and you were the princess. It was forbidden, remember?

While standing outside your dorm room, you were smiling. I asked you why. You said it had to do with this really incredible guy.

I arched an eyebrow. "Oh really?"

Nodding your head you said, "Yeah. You should meet him. I think you'll like him."

"So you like him."

You shrugged. "He's alright."

"Just alright?" I stepped closer to you and you grinned. "I think you might want to change answer."

You glanced at up me. "Or what?"

"Or I'm going to have to change your mind."

"Do it."

I didn't waste a second before my lips attached to yours and my back hits the door. You removed your lips from me and turned around to open your door. You grabbed the front of my door and pulled me inside of your room.

Before I could say anything, my mouth crashed into mine again. I didn't protest as I pushed the door shut and we continued from where started before Lily and Reid interrupted up.

I backed us up until the back of your legs hits the edge of the bed. You fell back, slowly, as I hovered above you.

At first the kiss was slow and gentle but then it changed to fast and aggressive. I licked the bottom of your lip and you opened your mouth to grant my wish. Our tongues fought for dominance and I allowed you to win.

My hands slid up your leg to rest on your stomach. I broke free to allow you to breathe but my lips never left you skin. I left kisses on your jaw, and attacked your neck.

And just when I was about to go lower, there was a knock on the door. I knew there was something I didn't like about that lady and I knew why.

"Princess Millian, is everything alright?"

Out of nowhere, you shoved me off you. You sent me flying back but I managed to catch myself before I could fall.

"Um, yeah. Why?" You asked.

You grabbed me and started dragging me towards the French doors.

"Well Guardian Cipriano hasn't came down yet."

You opened the doors. "Are you sure you didn't see him leave?"

"Positive. So can you open the door?"

"Sure." You said.

You pushed me out the doors and towards the ledge. I looked down before looking at me.

"What are you doing?" You hissed. "Jump already."

"If I break my legs, it's your fault." I stated as I swung my leg over the ledge and jumped.

I landed, softly, on my feet and glanced around to see if anyway had saw me. I didn't see anyone and I took one last look at your balcony before walking away.

After school, the next day, you had the last practice before she show tomorrow. Ava was complaining about the outfit and you told her she had to wear it. It wasn't much of an option.

Once you finished singing, you walked over to me, still wearing your reindeer costume. You looked cute. Sophie got to me before you did and she wrapped her arms around my waist while resting her head against my chest. I slung an arm over her shoulders.

"Mom and Dad still haven't sent a letter." Sophie said.

I immediately looked at you and you gave me you need to tell her look. I couldn't tell her. I wouldn't tell her. Ever. I was going to find them and get everything figured out. I just needed a little more time.

"I told you not to worry about them." I said, softly.

Sophie rolled her green eyes. "Yeah, yeah I know already. They're highly trained guardians who can take care of themselves blah blah blah..."

"Then stop worrying about them." I told her before looking up at you with desire and you bit your bottom lip.

I looked you up and down and a smirk tugged at the corner of my lips. I wanted to tell you something but I couldn't. Not with Sophie standing right there so I just grinned.

You frowned in confusion and then you glanced down at your costume. You rolled your eyes.

To say I was glad that practice ended, would be an understatement. I couldn't wait to get to your room and feel your lips on my mine. We barely made inside your room before your lips were on mine.

I picked you up and you wrapped your legs around my waist. You removed your lips from mine and moved to my neck and I let out a soft moan.

As much as I would loved to had continue, we had to stop. Ms. Couldn't get laid, would come back up here again. I put you down and gave you one last kiss.

I informed you I would came back around midnight and then I left. Six hours couldn't had passed even slower than it did. I left my building and was on my way to your balcony. This wasn't the first time I snuck into your room but it was the first time I was caught.

Just as I was climbing up your wall, I got shot in the back of my thigh. Suddenly, I couldn't move and I felt myself falling down. I could hear footsteps heading my way and once he got to me I saw who it was.

Fucking James.

"Hayes?" He said, confused. "I thought you were intruder. What are you doing?"

He didn't give me chance to speak before he put his gun to the side and helped me up.

"Nevermind. You don't have to answer that. I'm sorry for shooting you. I'll take you to your room."

He had to carry me because I couldn't move my entire body. When he got to my room, he unlocked it and placed me on my bed.

"The effects should wear off in a couple hours or so." He shrugged. "Maybe even longer. I don't know. I just got my gun tonight." He rubbed the back of his neck. "They're probably gonna take it back now...."

I looked at him, hoping he would get the hint and just leave. He finally got it and left me to myself. It didn't take a couple of hours for the effects to wear off. It took about five hours. There was no point of trying to go to your room now. Because in about two hours we had to be up and ready for school.

I came to get you at the same time I did everyday. I stood there with guilt in my eyes.

"Yeah you should feel bad." You told me, shutting the door. "You left me hanging."

"Not intentionally." I said.

"What's your excuse?"

"I really was coming. I actually was climbing up the wall, almost to your balcony when James shot me with this paralyzing dart." I explained

Your eyes widened. "Paralyzing dart? Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. The effects wore off a couple hours ago."

You tried to hid from laughing but I saw it.

"What's so funny?"

You shook your head." Nothing."

I rolled my eyes. "Sure...what is it?"

"I'm just picturing you climbing up to my balcony and James shooting you." You laughed. "That's hilarious!"

"No it isn't." I said. "I could've died!"

"A little dramatic, don't you think?"

"No..."

"Yes. I don't think you would die if you fell. Probably break something but you wouldn't die."

"What do you mean if I fell?" I exclaimed. "I did fall."

"Hey look on the bright side, at least you didn't feel anything when you fell."

"You're the worst girlfriend ever." I joked. "You're suppose to kiss me for risking my life for you."

You shrugged. "That's kinda the point of being my guardian...." You trailed off, smiling.

"I'm not just your guardian. I'm your boyfriend too. So that's mean I get special treatments."

Our conversation was interrupted by Lily. She said she had something important to tell you and she dragged you away.

"Did you hear about the new paralyzing darts we got for the newbies?" Reid asked me.

"Yeah I heard."

°§°

Before I went to your room, later that night, I stopped to talk to James. I told him I was going to room tonight and I didn't need him to shoot me again. He promised me he wouldn't. I mean he couldn't. Vance did take his gun away. I didn't know why and I didn't care.

I got in the bed beside you and you turned around to face me.

"Did you tell James not to shoot you this time?" You joked, smiling.

"Matter of fact, I did."

You rested your head on my chest and I brought up your birthday. I asked you hundredth times what you wanted and you still hadn't gave me an answer.

You sighed. "Hayes, how many time do I have to tell you I don't know?"

"Why do you have to be so difficult?" I joked. "Think of something and do it like right now so I can get it."

"I don't want anything. As long as you're there, I'm good."

I rolled my eyes. "Lamest gift ever."

You hit my chest. "It's not."

"Okay fine. But I'm going to keep asking until you think of something. I know you want something"

"You're right." You grinned. "I want a shirtless you to appear in the middle of the night and let me do anything I want to you." You said, glancing up at me.

"Oh that can be rearrange right now." I said, getting up. I hauled my shirt off and stood in front of your bed. "Well, Boo what do you want to do to me?"

You stared me, nearly drooling. I could only guess what you were thinking. I smirked. You came out of your daze and you crawled to the edge of the bed. You grabbed me by the loop of my pants and pulled me closer to you. I'd admit that was sexy as hell.

"I was only joking." You told me.

"Sure you were." I said.

I really hoped you weren't. We resumed our previous position and I planted a kiss on your forehead as you drew circles on my bare chest.

"Hayes?"

"Hmm?"

"Can I ask you something?" You asked.

"Of course."

"Do you remember that day I confronted you for saving my life years ago?"

"Yeah...why?"

"Well...you told me it wasn't important and it was all in the past. Why did you say that?"

I said a lot things that were stupid. Half of them, I didn't even know why I said them. I was just a stupid guy.

"I don't know...I was still in that if I'm a jerk to her she'll forget about her feelings for me phase. I didn't mean it. Saving your life was important to me."

"Because we were friends, right?"

"You thought we were friends but I enjoyed annoying you."

"You still do." You told me. "I want you to tell me everything about us. How did we meet?"

"That's easy. My parents used to work for Abe and one day I decided to tag along with them to the castle. They had a meeting to attend so I kind of walked around the place."

I told you the story of how we met and grew closer. I didn't talk about the night of the raid and I left that out and some others things. I promised I would tell you about there but now I just told you the simple things.

"You really thought I sounded horrible?" Was the first thing you said when I finished talking.

I rolled my eyes. "I said you were alright."

You didn't know what I really was thinking when I told you about how we met. I left some parts out. You didn't know how I felt when I looked at you for the first time and kind of stalked you for awhile before speaking or how I thought you were the most prettiest girl I ever seen. Nope you didn't know any of that.

"So I'm the first one to call you Hayes?"

You're the only one I want to call me Hayes but it's not like I can stop everyone from calling me that. I thought to myself.

"Yeah."

You grinned. "I like that. So what happens next? What else did we do?"

I shrugged. "Nothing really. After we introduced ourselves, I had to leave and Abe wanted you to come inside."

You frowned. "Oh that sucks." A smile appeared on your face. "So are you going to tell me how we totally became friends and what not?"

I chuckled. "You really want to know?"

You nodded. "Yes."

"Okay. Well few days later, I went back to the castle and I found you playing with Lily and Danielle. When you saw me you ditched them and pretty much dragged me to your piano. You wanted to show me what you were working on over the past days. You wanted to prove to me that you weren't a horrible singer but I kept saying you were. And every since that day we hung out."

And each day, I fell more in love with you. Was what I wanted to add but I didn't.

"We were either on the piano or teaching you how to dance and sometimes we would go outside to stare at the stars. That's when I noticed you had a hard time saying moon. You kept saying boo."

You rolled your eyes. "I was five. Is that all?"

There's way more but I couldn't tell you. Not yet. "Yep."

"Okay one last thing."

"What?"

"The invasion at Allison's funeral, why did you protect me?"

"I thought that was pretty obvious."

You rolled your eyes again. "Just tell me."

"Because you were very fun to tease. I couldn't let you die because then I wouldn't have anyone else to annoy." I told you. I was lying but I'd tell why I actually protected you another time.

"Wow nice to know you only keep me around to annoy me." You said, sarcastically.

I grinned. "You wanted to know."

We talk a little longer before I told you, you needed to sleep. You didn't argue with me and fell asleep on my chest. I listened to your even breathing as I stared at nothing. It got around the time I needed to leave if I didn't want to get caught but I couldn't move.

I didn't want to move. I wanted to be with you. I told myself I would stay for five more minutes but I actually stayed for ten. Sighing, heavily, I carefully removed myself from you. I laid your head gently down on your pillow. Once I was sure you wouldn't wake up, I moved to receive my shirt from the floor.

I pulled it over my head as I headed to the balcony. My shoe connected with the edge of something hard. I looked down and I noticed a rectangular small wooden box. I glanced back at you and you were fast asleep.

Benting down, I picked it up. I wondered what could be inside of it. I turned it around in my hands. I knew it's wrong of me to snoop through your things but I couldn't help it. Curiosity was eating me alive.

Just as I was lifting the top off, you woke up.

"Are you about to leave?" You asked in a sleepy voice.

I closed the top and turn around. I made sure I kept the box behind my back as I answered you.

"Yeah."

You nodded your head. I knew you wanted to say something but sleep took over you again. You werw asleep before your head hits the pillow. I placed the box down and walked over to you.

Brushing a strand of hair, I pressed a kiss on you forehead before leaving.

It's around five when I left. I couldnmake out figures near the gates. Guardians. I knew there's a chance they could see but I didn't care. If I did get caught, I already made something up to tell them.

I swung my leg over the ledge and spun around so my other leg was over the ledge also. The ground wasn't far down and instead of climbing down, I jumped. I landed lightly on my feet in the snow and I headed to my room.

As I walked, my mind drafts to the little wooden box. The wooden box I wished you had told me about.
