xix. Loving Us
Loving Us
As soon as we found Lily, we took her to the headquarters. She's still unconscious when we reached the place. Reid carried her in his arms as we ascended the stone stairs.
We barely took a step inside the mansion before Abe was yelling at us.
"How did you manage to lose them! You had one job! One job! And that was to protect them!"
I think he finally realized who Reid was holding because he stopped yelling as his eyes fell onto his unconscious daughter.
"Lily." He whispered, caressing her cheeks. He glanced up and rage was still in eyes. "Give her to Lucas and you two follow me."
Reid handed over Lily to Lucas, carefully. Abe told Marie to make sure Lily was okay. Abe gestured for us to follow him and we walked silently to his office. And all I could think was:
We're going to die.
"Close the door." Abe said with his back facing us. "What happened?"
"I don't know." I answered.
"What do you mean you don't know?" He said. "My daughters-" He stopped. "My daughter is missing and you're telling me you don't know what happened?"
"I'm telling you I don't know what exactly happened. I know that this person is from the inside."
Abe nodded. "The inside?"
"Yes." Reid replied.
"Everyone from the campus is here." He stated. "So check who's all here and get back to me."
We left his office and Reid sighed in relief.
"I really thought he was gonna kill us the whole entire time we were in there."
I ignored him. "We need talk to every person who saw this guy."
"Yeah but everyone who possible saw him is unconscious or having surgery. Lily is our main witness and she's passed out."
"As soon as she wakes up when need to question her." I said.
We walked around until we found Selena with a clipboard in her hand, frowning.
"Selena." I said and she looked up. "We need to know who didn't come on the buses."
"That's going to take a while." She said. "There's over seven hundred names."
"Then limited it down to high school." Reid suggested.
"I did." She remarked. "It would been easier if their names were in order instead scattered."
"Okay. Let us know when you find out." I said walking away.
"What now?" Reid asked walking beside me.
"As much as I don't want to do to this, we wait until Selena gets back to us or until Lily wakes up."
Neither one of them sounds good to me. I wanted, needed, something to go off of. I needed to find you.
Just hang on a little longer, Millie.
We headed to the "hospital" side of the mansion and Lily was laying on one of the bed still unconscious. I was assuming Marie wiped the dirt and make up off her face because her face was cleaned.
She had an IV stuck in her arm and fluids were flowing into her.
Lucas was sitting in the chair beside the bed holding Lily's hand. He glanced up when he noticed us.
"Did you find out anything?" He asked.
Reid shook his head. "Not yet. Selena is going through a list of names right now."
Lucas nodded before looking down at his girlfriend. "How long do you think she'll be unconscious?"
"I don't think it'll be long." I said."She's probably wake up soon."
Marie walked in. "You're right. She's wake up in about thirty minutes or so. She's unconscious because of the drugs that in her."
We frowned. "Drugs?" We all said in unison.
Marie nodded. "Yeah, well I run some tests and there's traces of Zenole in her blood system."
Reid rose an eyebrow. "Zenole?" He repeated.
"You're were too young to know this but back on Arysn, Zenole was used to make people unconscious. The more you drank the faster and longer you were unconscious." She explained.
I realized what happened last night. "What if they had alcohol in their system?"
"That's not a good combination. There's a chance of dying" She said but she quickly said the next part when she saw the worry in our eyes. "But there's no need to worry. Yes Lily had alcohol in her but she didn't drink a lot of Zenole. That's why when you found her she went unconscious."
Ten minutes later, Selena came in the room with bad news written all over her face.
"What it is? What did you find out?" I asked.
"You're not going to believe this because I don't." She said.
"What?" I urged.
"The only ones who didn't come on the buses are Kyle Ashton and Sophie Cipriano."
My mind could wrap around Kyle not being here but Sophie? Not happening. She had to be here.
"Are you sure?" I asked and she nodded her head.
"I'm positive." She handed me the list and left. I scanned through the list and sure enough Sophie's name wasn't marked off.
"It doesn't make any sense." Reid said. "I can see why Kyle might've took Millie but Sophie." He shook his head. "I can't see her doing this."
"Me either." Lucas agreed.
"That makes three of us." I said, putting the list down.
We stayed silent as we try to come up with a solution to why Sophie was missing. I didn't come up with one single solution. I stopped thinking when I heard Lily stirring.
We moved closer to her and she slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes moved around the room trying to figure out when she was. Then her eyes widened and she bolted upward.
"Millie." She said in realization. "I have to go get her."
Reid and Lucas pushed her back down on the bed, gently.
"We will." Reid said. "But first we need to know what happened?"
She rolled her eyes. "That little conniving, untrustworthy bitch is what happened?"
Lucas frowned. "Who? Kyle?"
"Oh yeah him too." She said. "But I'm talking about Sophie. I had this feeling not to trust her and now I know why."
"Why? What did she do?" I asked.
"She set this all up. She's the reason why we went missing in the first place. At our party, Daniella wanted me to try the punch and I didn't think nothing of it. I drank it and what do you know, I'm tispy."
"Yeah. We know that." Reid said. "I had to carry you to your room."
"Well" She continues. "I don't know an hour or so past by when Sophie knocked on my door. She told me to follow her and you know there's no way in hell I'd follow her willingly." She said. "I blame on the fact she got me tispy. Anyway we went to Millie's room and she ordered her to follow her too. Then we walked out to the balcony where she made us jumped off of and Kyle caught us."
As she's explaining this, I still couldn't wrap my mind around it. Why would Sophie intentionally kidnap Lily and Millie with Kyle?
"I still don't get why Sophie kidnap you guys." Reid said.
"Millie's been getting alot of threatening notes." Lily replied.
I frowned. "Threatening notes?"
She nodded her head. "Oh yeah you don't know about the notes. Well she's been receiving them for a little over a week now. She told me she keeps them in a box beside her bed. I guess that doesn't really help considering we're not at the school. Hey why aren't we at the school?"
"We'll explain later but I think I have the box." I said. "I'll be back."
I left and headed outside to the SUV. I opened the door and retrieved the black box and walked back inside.
"Is this the box?" I asked, holding it up.
"Yeah I think so. Open it."
I did and there they were. All the notes she had gotten. I read them and then it hits me.
"I figured out why Kyle is involved. He's angry at Millie for leaving him." I told them.
"Okay but that still doesn't explain why Sophie is involved." Lucas pointed out.
We gotnlost in our thoughts until Lily lets out a gasp and her eyes popped out her face.
"What happened?" Reid asked.
She shook her head quickly as if she didn't believe what she saw. Tears filled her eyes.
"Lily what happened?" Reid repeated more firmly.
"I can't tell you. I don't want to tell you." She said, looking at me.
"It's Millie right?" I asked.
"What's going on?" Lucas asked, confused.
"There are something we can't tell you." Reid answered, still looking at Lily who had her head down.
"My girlfriend is crying. I think I have the right to know." Lucas said.
"You don't understand." Reid replied.
We didn't have time to argue. So before Lucas could say anything I beat him.
"We have to tell him." I said.
Reid's head whipped in my direction. "What?" He said, surprised.
"We don't have a choice. Obviously Lucas isn't going to leave and Lily isn't going to tell us without him knowing." I pointednout.
"Selena and Abe aren't going to like this." Reid said.
"They'll get over it. Now tell him."
Reid sighed, heavily. "You know about the siren and seer, right?" He asked and Lucas nodded. "Well it so happens that Lily is the seer."
"Tell us." I said to Lily.
"You're gonna get so angry..." She informed us before looking at me. She's still crying. "He's...he's.."
"He's what?" I demanded. "What is Kyle doing?"
I prepared for every outcome but I didn't prepare for this one.
She swallowed. "He's raping her." She finished.
I didn't know how Lucas or Reid reacted to the news but I was pretty sure their eyes are wide and they're surprised. But every emotions drained from my body and it was replaced with rage.
I balled my hands in fist as I spoke through clench teeth.
"I'm going to fucking murder that asshole."
"Calm down, man." Reid told me, grabbing me.
I shook him off me. "Get off me."
I walked to one of the wall and punched it repeatedly, swearing. I stopped when there's a gaint hole.
"Leave and come back when you cool off." Reid told me.
Wordlessly, I turned on my heels and walked outside, listing every possible way I could kill Kyle Ashton.
I walked and walked but no matter how much I walked my anger wouldn't fade away. This had to be some sick joke, right?
I stayed outside until Reid came and got me.
"What happened?"
"Lily can't feel her anymore." He told me.
"What do you mean, she can't feel her anymore?"
"I don't know that's what she told me." He said. "Abe's with her right now."
I stopped before I open the door. "Does he know?"
Reid nodded. "Yeah. He didn't take it too well at first but now he's trying to help."
I nodded once and opened the door. I walked to the room Lily was in and Abe and Selena were in there.
"We need to find her now." Abe said.
"I'm trying Dad. I..I just can't feel her anymore."
"Have you tried to see other than Millie's perspective?" Selena asked.
I guess they knew that Lucas knew about Lily's powers.
She shook her head. "No. I never tried to. I'm used to Millie. It comes natural to me."
"I understand but try to." Selena said.
Lily nodded her head and closed her eyes to concentration. A few minutes later her eyes flew open.
"What did you see?" Abe asked.
"They're in a warehouse."
"Where at?" I questioned.
"I don't know. I focused on Sophie and it just showed me she was in a warehouse not what town she was in."
"Did you see anything like landscapes or something?" Abe asked.
"Not that it would help much but the warehouse is surrounded by trees."
"If all we know, they probably not even in Montana anymore." Selena said.
"They have to be." Reid said. "They have no where else to go."
"Our best option is to check the town." I told them.
"You really think, they stayed in the town?" Lucas asked.
I shrugged. "You never know. They're dumb enough to let Lily escape."
"What about the necklaces?" Reid said. "We can use it to track down Millie."
"That's a good idea but it only works if they can feel each other." Abe answered.
"We have to check the town." I said. We were running out of options.
They nodded their heads.
"Alright get going." Abe said. "We're going to stay here with Lily and keep you updated if anything comes up."
I nodded and Reid followed me out the door. We climbed into the SUV and I started the engine. The gate opened and I pulled unto the road. I pressed on the accelerator.
I'm coming Millie. Hold on please.
We made it to the town in less than an hour due to my speeding. I drove around.
"Lily mentioned a club earlier." Reid reminded me. "And the only place that remotely resembles a club is that place." He pointed.
I followed his glaze and it's a white building with neon lights. The sign read. Jaguar.
"Nice name." I muttered, sarcastically.
I pulled into the parking and park the car. The place wasn't open just yet but I wasn't waiting for it to be open.
I got out the car and Reid followed behind me. I pulled the door open and walked inside. There's two buff men standing there. I was assuming they were getting the place ready.
"Sorry guys we're not open. Come back in an hour or so." The first man behind the bar said.
"I have some questions to ask." I told him.
He ignored me and began to wipe down the counters. "Come back in an hour and then I might be able to help."
"Have you seen this girl?" I asked, showing him a picture of you.
He merely glanced at it. "Maybe I have, maybe I haven't. What's it to you?"
"Maybe I haven't made myself clear." I said before I grabbed the back of his neck and slammed it down on the counter and brought him back up in one quick motion.
From the counter of my eye, I saw the other guy making a move but Reid stopped him.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, man."
I brought my attention back to the first guy. "Let's try this again. Have you seen this girl?"
Blood was pouring out of his nose and down the front of his shirt. He looked at the picture and nodded his head.
"Yeah, yeah. She was here last night with a girl who look just like her and a really feisty red head girl and a guy."
So they were here. "Do you know where they went?"
He shook his head. "No. I swear I don't. They left an hour later after showing up."
"Thanks for nothing." I said before bashing his face back onto the counter, knocking him out.
We walked outside and Reid flicked all the lights off. We stood there, thinking.
"Where could they be?" Reid asked, leaning against the building. "There's too many tire marks to try to follow any of them."
"I don't know. This place doesn't have any cameras."
Not five minutes had past by before there's an explosion. Our heads whipped to the sound and we saw thick smoke.
There's a girl walking by the club and I stopped her.
"Hey." She looked my way. "What's over there?" I asked nodding to the smoke.
"Nothing by rundown warehouses. A perfect place to commit crimes."
Reid and I shared a look before we ran to the SUV. I quickly started the car and reserved. I peeled out the parking lot and sped to the warehouse.
"They stayed after all." Reid said.
We made it to the place and everything was already in flames. I flung the door open and ran towards the place.
We ran inside and that's when I saw him and my blood boiled. Before he saw me, I tackled him to the ground and threw punch after punch to his face. He tried to throw a punch back but it's weak.
I saw nothing but red and I didn't think I was planning on stopping. Reid pulled me off Kyle.
"Stop. You're gonna kill him." He said. "Go find Millie." He pushed me away.
I gave Kyle one more deadly look before running deeper inside the building. I saw a figure heading my way.
Millie. I thought.
But it's not her instead it's Sophie. Her eyes widened when she saw me.
"Hayes." She said, throwing her arms around me and I tensed up. "I knew you would find me."
I pushed her off me and I glared at her. She looked taken back.
"What-"
"Stay away from me." I told her, icily.
"But I'm-"
"Dead to me." I finished for her. "As far as I'm concern I never had a sister."
I left her standing there and ran farer inside. My eyes scanned the room, frantically. I wouldn't had seen you if I didn't see you fall.
"Millie!" I yelled as I ran to you.
You were unconscious when I reached you. Your wrists were locked with heavy metal. I manifested a pin to pick the lock. Once it's open, I removed the cuffs and flung it behind me. I picked you up in my arms. Your face was covered in bruises and so were your wrists, your dress was torn and dry blood was visible on the inside of your thighs.
I tried not to think about it but I failed, miserably.
I'm so sorry, Boo. I thought. I should've been here to protect you and I wasn't. Please forgive me.
I made it outside and Reid had Kyle and Sophie tied up.
"What do you want me to do with them?"
I didn't look at him as I answered. "Leave them here. Someone will come and get them."
I opened the back door and placed you inside gently.
"I'll drive." Reid said, hopping inside the driver's seat.
I climbed inside the backseat with you and my eyes never left your body as Reid drove us back to the mansion.
Sirens could be heard in the distant and I knew Reid was thinking about the two tied up traitors. Before he could ask me what should he do about them, I answered.
"Call Xen and tell him to pick them at the police station."
As much as I want them to be far away from you, they couldn't be in jail. Not as long as they were under Selena's care.
After the long drive, we reached the mansion and I picked you up and carried you inside.
Abe quickly ordered, Marie to attend to you. I wanted to be with you every second but Marie wouldn't let me. She said, I had to wait until you were stable.
Every second I waited felt longer than the other. Could they hurry up? I wanted to see you.
My eyes narrowed when I saw Xen and other guard named, Danny, walked in holding tightly onto Sophie and Kyle.
Sophie turned her head in my direction and tears filled her eyes.
"I'm sorry."
I ignored her and they were dragged to the underground chambers.
It seemed like hours past before I could finally see you. As I was walking in, Marie stopped me.
"She's still unconscious and I don't know when she will wake up."
I nodded once and walked all the way in and Marie closed the door. I sat down on the chair that's beside the bed and I grabbed your small cold hand in mine.
"I don't know if you can hear me right now but I want you to know, I'm sorry for not being there for you when you needed me. I'm sorry for not protecting you as I should have. If I was more observant, I could've be able to prevent this for happening. This is my fault and I hope you can forgive me."
I wasn't crying but I was close to it.
"You probably think I deserve to feel this way and you would be right. You got hurt because of me. That bastard defiled you because of me. If I could, I would go back in time and made you stay away from me. Even if I'd be hurt, I'll do because you mean way to much to me."
I pressed your hand to my lips.
"I love you so much. I always will." I muttered, softly.
There's a knock on the door and I put your hand down just as the door opened to reveal Abe. I stood up.
"You don't have to leave." He told me as I was heading to the door.
"I was about to leave anyway."
I walked out the door and headed to the one room that made me feel closer to you.
Two long days past before you opened your eyes. I came to visit you while you were unconscious. I never stayed very long because I couldn't bear seeing all the bruises on your body.
The bruises I could've prevented. None of this should've happened and there was nothing I could say or do to make you feel better.
The day you woke up, I waited until Lily and Abe visited you to walk into your room. You were about to shut your eyes when I walked in.
"Sorry I didn't mean to wake you." I said. "I can come back later."
You shook your head and motioned for me to come in. I took a seat beside your bed and I looked at you. You looked away from me.
I sighed. "Millie." I touched your hand and you flinched.
You flinched.
I quickly dropped my arm.
"Sorry. I shouldn't have done that." I said, glancing down.
You weren't ready to talk about it. I didn't know when you would be. You may never be ready and that was okay.
I stood up. "Whenever you're ready, I'm here." I told you, before leaving.
You stayed in your room for three days. You never left. Lily tried to get you out but you weren't moving. I wanted to talk to you but I didn't think you wanted me to anywhere near you.
I thought you were mad at me for letting this happen to you. But Reid convinced me to attempted to speak to you. I told him I would tried but if you didn't want to ever speak to me, I would honor your wishes.
I would leave if that what you wanted.
I knocked on your door and you didn't come. I knocked again and this time you opened your door.
You looked pale and dark circles were under eyes. You looked tired and I felt bad for waking you up.
"I know it's late but I have a question to ask you." I said. "You'll probably say no but I'm going to ask anyway. Do you want to go to the piano room with me?"
You surprised me when you nodded you head.
I rose an eyebrow. "Really? You're going to come?"
You nodded again.
I smiled. "Good."
We walked to the room and I flipped the lights on. You closed your eyes, not used to the bright lights.
"I should've warned you." I said, apologetically.
You waved it away with the flick of your wrist and we took a seat on the bench. I remembered what happened last time I touched you so I made sure I kept some space in between us.
"I was going to play this on your birthday." I told you. "Do you remember when you kept asking me what I had planned?"
You nodded your head.
"Well it was this."
I placed my fingers on the keys and began to stroke the keys. It was a soft song and it said everything I wanted to be said. Once I finished, tears were sliding down your face. You tried to hide them but I saw them anyway.
"It's called To Love's End." I said. "Do you want to know why I chose it?"
You nodded.
"Because I'm loving you until the end. You were right- a love like ours is rare and I never want to let it go. I want to be with you until love ends. I love you so much and I won't ever stop loving you no matter what happens." I placed my finger under your chin and gently turned your head so I could look at me. "You might not know it but you complete me and when you're not smiling or laughing it hurts me. I hate seeing you cry. Please don't cry." I said, softly as I wiped your tears away.
I placed my forehead against your. "Boo." I whispered your nickname. "Tell me what to do and I'll do it. Whatever it is, I'll do it. But please, please come back to me." I begged. "I don't want you to be numb and filled with darkness. I want light shining from you. I miss you and I'm so sorry I can't help you. If I could, I'll do in heartbeat."
When I felt your hand on my face, I opened my eyes and looked into your hazel ones. You gave me a small smile and I grabbed your hand that's touched my face.
"I love you." You whispered.
You said softly and if it wasn't very my good hearing, I didn't think I would've heard you. But you didn't know how happy I was hearing you say you loved me. You didn't hate me and I was lucky you didn't.
"I love you more."
I took a risk by kissing your forehead and wrapped my arms around you, slowly, so I wouldn't scare you. I didn't want you to flinch again. You wrapped around my waist and brought me closer to you.
We stayed like that for a while until you pulled away. I looked at you, searching for anything that might be a warning but I didn't see one.
"Can you play it?" You asked and I rose an eyebrow. "The song." You clarified.
"Of course. It's your song after all."
"No." You told me. "It's our song."
I smiled as I turned my body and began to play the song again. You leaned your head on my shoulder.
You stayed silent the whole I played and I wondered what was going inside your head. I couldn't see inside anymore. You didn't allow me but you didn't know that.
I was happy you were beside me but that night he got into my head for the final time. Instead of wanting information about you, it was about Abe.
I want to know everything about Abe. Every secret, every weaknesses, every strengths. Everything. Do you understand?
I glanced you and knew what I was about to do would somehow backfire on me and for once I wish I was wrong.
