vii. Breaking You
Breaking You
I hadn't heard from Ramadi in awhile and I didn't know whether to be relieve that he didn't need anything or worried that I done something wrong and he taking it out on my parents.
I mean I was always going to worry about them. They were in Ramadi's hands. I didn't know where they were. I had no way of knowing.
I worked for him for three months now and had a feeling tonight would be a test. I was right, but it wasn't Ramadi giving me the test. It was you.
The concert was a big deal to everyone here. It drew in a wave of people. It was their way of celebrating the end of their freedom. It was, also, your way of moving on.
You didn't know it yet but I had it planned out with help. You thought we were blind but we knew. We knew you still haven't let your family go. You kept hold on them and cried nearly every night.
You once told me you sang to escape from reality, from the world. I wanted you to escape from what you couldn't have stopped. We wanted you to move on.
I met you at the concert and you were dressed up. You looked stunning. I told you looked beautiful and you said you couldn't get away from Teri's claws.
You realized you were the only one in our group dressed up and you wanted to know why but Teri didn't respond.
We watched the band and after they played four songs, I led you to the back. You wanted to know where we were going and I told you to wait.
I left you and walked over to Jeff. I told him you were here and ready to perform. I had faith in you. He told me you would be going on soon.
Jeff informed you, you were up in five minutes and you asked what I did. That's when Teri came in. She told you, we all planned it.
I asked if you remember when you told me you always wanted to sing on a stage in front of an audience. I told you this was it and you said you already did that before.
Teri told you this time was different because you were singing for someone. You were still confused so Shawn explained it to you. He told you that one of the four steps was to follow your heart.
You nodded your head. "Yeah but-"
"It's time to let them go." Teri said.
Your family was another way for Ramadi to get to you. He knew that was a weakness for you as well. He killed your family to make you sad.
I pulled you closer to me and told you, you could do it and they would've wanted you to move on. You said you knew but it was still hard to let them go.
Gina told you we were here for you and we all hugged you. Jeff informed us you had a minute left. We left you go and I gave you one more look before I went back to my seat.
You talked to the drummer and the guitarist before you took a seat on the wooden bench. You prepared yourself. You dedicated the song to your family and as you looked up to the sky you told them you loved them.
I watched as you captivate everyone in the building and sung your heart out. You were slowly letting them go.
It was near the end of your song when I saw them. They couldn't be there. Especially now that Ramadi was watching. I text Reid to meet me in the back and then I told Teri to tell you how incredible you were. She asked where I was going and I told her I had something to take care of.
You were coming off the stage when I slipped out the back door. I found Reid and we moved away from the concert to a more secluded place. Little did I know, you were following me.
"What if they run into each other?" Reid asked.
"There's a lot of people in there. I doubt they'll see each other." I told him.
But you already saw her. Reid said Abe wasn't going to like that you two were on the same continent and in the same state.
Before I could say anything, there was a noise. We turned our heads to the sound and I asked what it was. We started walking towards it and that's when you ran.
I stood in front of you as Reid yelled for Lily. You stopped running when you noticed I blocked your way and Lily smacked into you.
"What are you doing?" I asked you, walking closer.
You crossed your arms and said you could asked me the same question. Reid told you and Lily to leave and Lily said that what you were doing but now you two should stay and you agreed. You said we were hiding something from the both of you and you wanted to know.
I ignored your question and asked how did you find each other. You were still hellbent on wanting to know what we were keeping from you to answer me.
I didn't have time to fill you in so I told both of you to leave but you wouldn't, not until you got your answers.
Reid informed us all that Abe was arriving soon. I told him I was taking you back to the concert and he could take Lily somewhere else. You didn't like that idea.
"We're not going anywhere." You said. "I want to meet this Abe guy. He has some explaining to do."
Lily agreed with you. You asked why you two needed to be separated and started talking about something that didn't make any sense.
Reid and I exchanged glances.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
Lily said the seer and siren needed to be found by you two so you could help them from Ramadi. I told you two that your information was way off and you two needed to leave.
Then you chimed in. You said you put the hints and puzzles together and figured it out a little bit.
"You're not even close." Reid said. "Abe is coming in three minutes."
Lily asked if you remembered the poem and you nodded your head and asked why. I wanted to know about this poem.
Lily said it was talking about Demember 17th and more importantly something else. You said that was your birthday and wanted to know why it was talking about your birthday. Lily said it was her birthday too.
I asked again for the poem and you finally told me.
"December remembers a night when two princesses were born. When the first snow falls, seven will rise. Born the moon and sun. The siren and seer."
Then you realized it was about you two. Lily said it made sense. The girls didn't want you two to find them but to find each other.
You said separated we're in danger, together were unbeatable. Lily was still confused. She said she remembered when she was five but she didn't remember that night.
"Forget it." Reid said. "Abe is coming."
Before I could drag you away, a gush of wind hits you. Abe looked at you and he was surprised. He asked you what you were doing here and you told him he had the wrong person and your name wasn't Millian.
Abe smiled and told you your name was Millian Delariox and he was your father.
You didn't believe him. You didn't want to believe him. David, your guardian, was your father. You couldn't see Abe being your father when he abandoned you. But you didn't know the full story yet.
Abe wanted to know how you and Lily found each other. We all wanted to know but you didn't him because Abe wouldn't tell you why he left you.
Then as if we didn't have any more to worry about, Lily had a vision. She was silent beside you and Abe asked her what she saw. She said she saw dark shadows.
Ramadi's men.
They were coming because they had your scent. That's why you and Lily were separated in the first place. You heard them coming. You could hear what we couldn't hear. You straightened up, quickly, and I knew you heard them.
I told them we needed to leave because they were coming. Again, you didn't want to leave because you didn't want to leave Teri. You didn't have a choice. You were leaving whether you liked it or not.
Abe's necklaces, your necklace, the one Ramadi wanted, shone brightly and that was another sign, they were getting closer. We got closer to Abe and he teleported us away from the concert.
Abe's teleportation was stronger than mine. He could go farther without getting weak but he wasn't just teleporting himself. So we faced the consequences.
We were free falling and you and Lily screamed. Abe informed us that he was taking you and Lily and told us to meet him in the forest below.
He disappeared with you two and Reid and I were still falling. By the time we managed to get our wings out, it was too late. We hit the tree top and tumbled the rest of the way down.
I got to my feet and pushed my back in. Reid shook leaves out of his hair but there was still some left in it. We walked over to where you were.
You asked if we were okay and I told you falling wasn't a smooth ride. Abe looked worn out and I knew he was running out of energy.
He told us he wouldn't be able to teleport us all to the headquarters but he would be able to get us to a plane. We looked at him warily. I didn't feel like breaking my back if he suddenly made us free fall again.
To my relief and everyone else's, Abe got us to a plane. The secret government were already there. They greeted Abe and that's when you found out you were a princess.
You asked Abe if he was coming with us and he told you, no. He would meet us at the headquarters.
As soon as the door closed, so did my heart. I was going have to end us. You were going to hate me but I didn't have choice. Abe wouldn't approve of it and I didn't think you would be so in love with me.
If I did, I would've fought but I didn't and I broke your heart. Just like he told me to. I told you we were just a fling and my job was to protect you and nothing more.
I turned into the biggest jerk ever, maybe even worse than Jason. It hurt me but I couldn't tell you that. I didn't know how you would react if you knew it was forbidden and the only reason I made you fell for me was because of Ramadi.
That night, when I told you it was over, it was far for it.
