it was great but that thing just came in
As she rose from bed, the morning began with a good start. Someone had opened the curtains, as crisp white sunlight hit her blankets, making them a lighter blue. She sat up, stretched, and-
Went straight back to bed.
Ever since she’s been in this house, her usual morning routine of waking up at 6am turned into sleeping in till 12am. Her brown hair spreaded and frizzed across her pillow, and shined as if it was blonde.
She had probably slept in for another 5 minutes when her younger “brother” had come running through the door and began jumping on her bed. “Slivy, Slivy, wake up!” He exclaimed, laughing.
Silver’s eyes flung open, surprised but tad happy at the same time. As much as she loved the authority and the influence Jackie had over her, Silver liked to play that role sometimes.
“What’s going on, Felix?”
“We’re going to a festival!” He exclaimed once more, and jumped up into the air, landing criss-cross-applesauce on the bed. This shook Silver awake as she sat up in her purple pajamas. She didn’t particularly like them, but they worked.
After a brief breakdown of what was going on, she managed to get the gremlin ( her “brother” ) out of her room and get changed. She still had her silver dress, but had changed her fashion. She wore a silver shirt, just as bright as the last one, but with grey shorts.
Silver looked at herself in the mirror and smiled, running promptly outside the door. Yeah, she knew she would probably never see Jackie again, but she kept that negativity at bay.
The sun shined brightly in her eye, despite the fact it was only 9AM. Her eyes were relieved as they got into the car, with the tinted windows protecting her eyes.
Her and Felix talked about various things that would be going on throughout the course of the festival, with the parents butting in occasionally to correct Felix.
"Here we be." Her "mom" said in a pirate-like voice, making the kids laugh.
As they stepped out the car, the immense amount of voices nearly shook Silver's bones, along with the crowds of people.
It may have not been as much to you and me, but it sure was a lot to a girl abandoned at the age of 1.
Felix giggled at the sound around him, and yelled to his parents, trying to tell them something. The music playing was responsible for most of the noise.
Silver saw some games that caught her eye, and asked her "parents" if they could go over there.
"Oh, I thought this situation would come up, so here." The mom took a small blue purse from out her bag, and gave it to her. "It has some money, hand sanitizer, pretty much anything you need. And if you get bored, I packed a little sketchpad and pencils in there." She smiled. "I sense you're responsible enough to go and play games on your own."
Silver almost immediately lit up with joy. "Thank you ma'am!" She took the blue purse, and wrapped it around her shoulder. "Can I take Felix with me though?"
The mother had still not gotten used to her foster child calling her ma'am, and felt as if she didn't make Silver feel at home. "Of course you can take Felix."
The siblings ran off to an aisle of festival games, like spinning a wheel, darts, bumper cars.
They stopped for bumper cars, in which Silver had no idea of how to even remotely drive, and ended up driving into the side of the arena 90% of the time.
"You've never driven a bumper car before?" Felix asked, as if the fact was something other worldly.
"I've never been to a festival, Felix." She replied, unaware of the self-deprecating tone she had.
Felix paused for a second, looking at the ground, and looked back up at Silver.
"That's sad."
They stood in awkward silence, as Silver did understand why it was sad, and Felix didn't know what to add. In a trotting like fashion, they went to the next game.
This time, it was spin the wheel, and a particularly old lady was running it. Silver spotted a tiny cat plush as one of the prizes. It had black coat with a white belly, and decided to try and win it for Felix.
"Hello there, girl." The elderly lady sat down with a floral dress, but her country lady style was interrupted by sharp sunglasses. "This game costs 2 tickets."
Annoying as Felix was sometimes, she started to consider him family, and wanted to show him.
As Silver handed over 2 tickets, she noticed she had a 50/50 chance of winning a plush. Not bad. She thought to herself. The wheel ticked and ticked, and just as she thought she was going to win that plush it landed on red.
"Do you want to try again?" The lady asked.
"Yes." She said without much hesitation. This game went on for another 5 times until the lady stopped her.
"I appreciate your efforts young lady, but I don't think you'd want the plush after losing 10 tickets. Here, I've been saving this for some while." The lady looked around, making sure no one saw her, and then smiled and made a shh motion. She handed Silver a chest, embedded with tiny jewels around the side.
Silver's hands immediately felt tingly and even trembled a bit when she stroked her hand against the side. The wood felt authentic, like if it was just chopped from a tree.
"Um, Miss? If you've had this for a while, don't you want to give this to someone you know?"
"Nah, my children are buttholes. You're more deserving of it than they are." She laughed a bit, the same way Jackie used to chuckle.
"Thank you miss." Silver smiled greatly, and as she turned around and realized Felix wasn't there.
"Ohhhh not today. Not today." Scanning the crowd for any signs of Felix, she began to tremble more. "Felix!" She called out, running through the crowds of people.
She bumped into several people, promptly said “Sorry”, and continued to run like a madman.
A rumble of stone came from behind her, which stopped everyone. It was a dead silent, such a loud silent you could hear your nervous system ring. Silver panicked.
She didn’t have any of her foster unit with her, and her heart dropped when she heard a man yell.
“Dragon!”
