Chapter Seven: Two Short Weeks

"Matthew stop! Matthew! Matthew! Matthew!" Hannah cried out in annoyance.

Are they ever going to stop that? It was Ty, but he was in my mind. I about jumped out of my seat when I heard his voice in my head. He noticed my startled expression and smirked, enticing a glare from me.

What? The arguing?

Yes.

Nope. Never. Get use to it.

I swear I'm going-

"Are you guys talking to each other?" Hannah asked, tearing Ty and I away from our mental conversation. We both shrugged in response. Hannah frowned but dropped it and went back to typing away on her computer.

We had been researching for over an hour at Ty's place. Hannah, who was an amazing cook, had made us chicken and rice. Every once in a while we'd find small facts, but nothing important. We were about to give up.

"Hey! I think I found something!" Matthew exclaimed, shoving the computer my way.

"This is a recent newspaper post from Helena, Montana— the town where Dr. Belford moved. Someone bought 100 acres of property."

"So? That could be anyone," Ty retorted.

"True, but the location of the property is the perfect setup for a hideout. It's difficult to get to unless you had a helicopter, and extremely secluded," Hannah said. She was peering over Matthews shoulder, examining the map.

"That doesn't prove anything."

"No, but it's a start. Is there a way to look up who bought the property?" I asked, shooting Ty a glare for being a jerk.

"Hang on a sec." Matthew held up a finger and went back to typing. We all waited in silence for a few minutes until Matthews face lit up like a lightbulb. "No exact names, but a company called Psychological and Technological Research Center spoke out, hinting that they had a part in buying it."

"What did they say exactly?" I asked.

"It reads; 'My name is Whitney Cape, and I am one of the head scientists here at PTRC. The large piece of land bought was one of our options when we looked to expand the company. It is a great spot that we feel we could easily turn into a productive and prosperous research center, if all goes well."

"So they bought it?"

"It's sounds like it," I answered.

"I don't know," Ty said. "Buying that much property isn't the best way to stay hidden, and it doesn't say anything about a Dr. Belford."

"Does it say what they want to do with the property?" Hannah asked.

"No, they didn't give away much. All it said was the land would be put to good use for an upcoming project they had, that supposedly, will help the community."

"Ty, I think right now it's our best shot," I said softly.

Ty sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair. "Alright, I guess we're going to Helena."

As soon as those words left Ty's mouth a searing pain shot down my neck and through my back. I cried out, but my cry was accompanied by Ty's too. Words appeared in my mind almost immediately.

You have two weeks to save Ty. Find Dr. Belford with the Firons.

These words played over and over in my mind for five minutes, until finally they stopped and my vision returned. After getting my bearings I turned to look at Matthew and Hannah. Their eyes were wide with fear and their mouths hung open. I remembered Ty screaming too. I looked to my left and realized he had collapsed on the ground unconscious, but his body still trembled.

"Ty! What's wrong with Ty?" Hannah shrieked. Her ear piercing scream rung in my ear. It seemed exceptionally loud but I ignored it and rushed over to Ty, placing a shaky hand on his shoulder.

Ty. Ty if you can hear me let me know!

I can hear you. What's going on. I'm awake but I can't open my eyes or move. Rebecca what's happening to me?

I-I'm sorry Ty. I don't know, but will figure it out. This is just another episode. You'll be okay. Can you hear us? I mean when we're speaking.

Yes. I can hear you guys. It's like you're screaming in my ears. It hurts Rebecca.

I know, it's the same for me. Just let this pass.

I hooked an arm around Ty's and gestured for Hannah to help me. Matthew looked like he wanted to help. I knew he was itching to lift Ty up off the ground, but his injuries restrained him, only reminding him of what our father did. I gave him a sympathetic smile, but he didn't return it. Instead he glared at me and came forward, pushing Hannah out of the way.

"Matthew you can't li-"

"Yes I can," Matthew snapped. He hooked his good arm around Ty's right arm and tried to lift him but cried out in pain, dropping Ty. I pursed my lips and shook my head. Hannah had tears in her eyes, watching Matthew struggle, but she ignored them and helped me lift Ty on to the couch.

Matthew struggled to get up on his feet, wincing with each step he took. He sunk into the rocking chair, clutching his side.

Your brother is stupid. I heard Ty again.

Shut up.

What? I'm just stating the facts.

Idiot.

You're insulting an unconscious person?

Shut up and let me explain this to Matthew and Hannah!

"Guys, Ty isn't exactly unconscious. He doesn't have control over his body, but his mind is still awake. He can't control his mouth or voice, but he can talk to me through his thoughts. It's kind of like when a computer screen breaks but the computer itself is still working. Anyways, it will pass," I explained. Hannah and Matthew nodded in understanding.

"It's really weird that you can hear his thoughts and he can hear yours," Matthew mumbled.

"Yeah, but only if we let each other," I reminded him. He shrugged.

"What's he saying right now?" Hannah asked.

Do we have to include your brother and sister? They're really annoying.

So are you. I thought.

"Um, he was just saying he hopes it will go away soon," I lied.

Hey! That's not what I said. Ty whined mentally, which was really weird.

I know. That's why I said it.

You're annoying too.

Good, the feeling is mutual. I retorted.

This is going to be a long couple of weeks.

Well, he's got that right. It is going to be interesting doing this as a "team."

****

Ty stirred on the couch. His eyes fluttered open and the three of us watched him as he slowly sat up. He groaned, pressing his plans to his eyes and rubbing the sleep away from them.

"That sucked," he grumbled. I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing. Hannah and Matthew gave me strange looks before following me. All three of us were clutching our stomachs, bent over laughing our butts of. Through blurry eyes I could see Ty glaring at me. I ignored his usual bad attitude.

Once we finally sobered up Hannah said, "Ty, you scared us!"'

"Yeah, it sure looks like it," he replied grumpily. We rolled our eyes at him.

Then I remembered something. "Hey Ty, before you passed out you said something about going to Helena."

"Oh yeah!" Matthew agreed, raising his eyebrows.

"We have to find Dr. Belford, and our best shot is in Helena. We have to go," Ty said. "I know it's a long ways but we promised we're a team. Rebecca and I have to go."

Matthew and Hannah were silent for a minute. I realized we didn't have anything to worry about. We could tell our parents we were going on vacation with friends and they wouldn't care. They wouldn't give us a second thought.

"I'm in," Hannah nodded.

"Let's go to Helena!" Matthew exclaimed, throwing his good arm up in the air. I rolled my eyes at him, but wore a bright smile on my face.

"I've always wanted to take a road trip."

"Okay," Ty started. "We leave tomorrow morning. I don't know how long we will be gone so pack your bags. Will your parents let you go?"

Hannah scoffed. "Our parents wouldn't care if we told them we were jumping out of an airplane."

"Well that's good...I guess," Ty replied.

"Why are we leaving so soon?" Matthew asked.

Ty looked at the ground. "Because, I only have two weeks."

Hey everyone! How's it going?

Phew. I'm not going to lie, I'm proud of myself. I've been whipping out chapters pretty fast, but they're short chapters. So, I've decided that instead of 1000-1500 word chapters, I'll post 2500 word chapters.

Wha did you think about this chapter? Let me know! Don't be silent readers. Don't be shy, I won't bite.

Vote and comment! Have a beautiful day! <3

Oh wait I forgot! Let me go find a picture of Hannah! Okay, guys. Up above is a picture of Hannah. Remember, she doesn't look like Rebecca because they're adoptive sister. In the next chapter I'll post a picture of Matthew!
