Two
"Wakey wakey, make me breakfast-y," I muttered as I poked my dad's arm. It was 6:30am on a Tuesday, and I was owed some pancakes.
Twenty minutes later, I had dressed, having eaten some delicious chocolate chip pancakes, and was downstairs packing my school bag. "Vocab book, German worksheet, math notebook, check. Alright, cool." I muttered to myself as I packed, making sure I had everything.
I ran upstairs to grab some money and threw on my boots. Grabbing my backpack, I sat down and watched the news for a couple minutes before leaving the house at precisely 7:07. "Bye, guys! Love you!" I called to my parents as I walked out. "Hurry up, Dana!"
Dana, my younger sister, was usually later to the bus stop. She was always too busy complaining about stuff to get anything done.
Oh yes, because I definitely messed with the shower head and got you a dirty glass, kill me for my sins oh great Dana.

"Hey girl."
"Hey girl," I replied, smirking. "What's up?"
"Mr. C was late again. You have one job!" She said jokingly.
"Actually, he has two. You said he's a barber."
"You have two jobs!" She cried.
I laughed. "At least your bus driver isn't late regularly. 7:29 arrival is my life now."
"True. You're lucky though," she said, lowering her voice. "You don't have to hang out with Lily." She began to speak in a high-pitched mocking voice. "'Oh, Davis is so cute, Davis, Davis, sing song Davis blah dragon TV anime music Davis.'"
"True, true. By the way, what was your deal with Davis last night?"
"Oh, that. Uh..."
"Come on, Al."
She sighed. "Alright, fine. I think he might have asked me out?"
"What?"
"Yeah."
"What exactly happened? When was this?"
"Math yesterday. He said-"
"But that's A block! Why didn't you tell me in language arts or lunch or something?"
"I didn't realize, hold on. In math yesterday he asked if I wanted to go see Goosebumps on Friday, but I told him I had plans, and then last night I was thinking about it and I realized he didn't ask anyone else in the Posse or anything as far as I know and I think it might have been a date. Did he ask you?" She finished.
"No. Not yet at least, I didn't see him yesterday. You'd think he'd text or something though..."
"Good point, but he never really does that. He's more of a 'last minute I need a ride' type."
"Yeah," I said laughing. "And let's not get started on Twerp..."
"Oh god."
"You know, my dad totally saw this coming, by the way."
"Wait, what?"
"Yeah. Remember that time we went to the movies by the Wendy's? When I asked him to drive he asked me if it was a double date."
"You're serious?"
"Yeah."
"Damn," she muttered. "My mom, Rachel, McCaslin and now your dad? Don't tell me you saw it coming too."
"Well..." I teased.
"Oh come on!"
We talked some more about classes on the way to my locker, but as we neared the end of the 'anorexic hallway' I stopped. "Wait. McCaslin?"
"Wha- oh, yeah. He keeps giving me weird looks whenever Davis does something weird and stuff."
"Well now I really want him for Stat or Pre-Calc next year."
"Wait, you're taking two maths?"
"Yeah, ugh. AP Stat and Honors Trig/Pre-Calc. Kill me now."
"Haha, Algebra II, sucker!"
"Oh that's no better if you have Mrs. Mbriwa."
"So I've heard."
I waved jokingly as I turned towards my locker and she towards the stairs. "See you in 100 minutes," I called.
"See ya!" She replied, swinging her messenger bag over her shoulder and heading down towards the cafeteria where she came from.
That was our cycle every morning. We meet up in the cafeteria, walk upstairs through the anorexic hallway, and then split up: I go to my locker down the hall and she does a loop of the school to return to her cafeteria-side locker.
I passed Davis's locker as I headed to the library to return a book.
"Pojke," he said as I passed, flicking his hand at me.
"Flicka!" I called back, returning the motion.
"Du vill talar inte," he replied.
"Javla du."
"Javla du helvetet."
"Uh... Smörgåstårta!"
And that, people, is how to yell/curse at your friend in Swedish until you don't know what else to say and yell sandwich cake.
