Twenty One: Trouble Along the Way
(Lunchtime)
I was patrolling the halls with Kuroko as I walked beside her. "How long do we have to do this for?" I asked with a yawn.
"Until it's time for class." She answered. 'I don't have that long. If I'm gonna poison Saki, I've gotta do it now.' I thought.
"Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked. "Yes, but make it quick." Kuroko said, granting me permission. I headed into the school and found Saki in the cafeteria, gossiping with the other girls.
'How do I lure her away from her lunch?' I thought with a frown. As if answering my prayers, everyone turned their attention to Haruto and Sota.
The discussion they were having turned into an argument as they started yelling at each other, making everyone in the cafeteria look at them.
While they were distracted by Haruto and Sota, I snuck over to Saki's lunch and placed the poison in it. By the time I snuck out of there, everyone returned to their lunch.
I watched with anticipation as Saki ate her lunch. After a few seconds, she began to cough while placing a hand on her chest.
Her coughing became more violent until she began to choke and gag. Everyone backed away from her while they watched her in confusion.
Saki collapsed to the floor before being sprawled out, dying. Everyone in the cafeteria screamed before running off.
After someone informed a teacher about what happened to Saki, they called an ambulance. They arrived at the scene and the paramedics tried to revive Saki, but it was too late.
Because of the incident, everyone was sent home early. I inwardly smirked as another one of my rivals was eliminated.
"Two down, two to go." I mumbled to myself. I was in my room as I crossed out Saki's picture with a red sharpie. Now, all that leaves is Uekiya and Efude.
I covered my board with the white sheet, then joined my brother and sister in the living room. "How do you think she died?" Yan-kun asked as he laid on the couch.
"I mean, the whole's school gonna be talking about it, no doubt."
"According to the paramedics, she was poisoned." Ayano said. I took a seat on the other couch and took out my phone to listen to some music.
"Poison?" He repeated, and she nodded her head. "Amaya..."
I looked up from my phone to find my siblings staring at me. "Did you have something to do with Saki's death?" Yan-kun asked.
"Who, me? Why would I wanna kill Saki?" I asked, innocently. "I'm happily dating Nemesis-kun. There's no need for me to go killing someone."
"Good point. Oh, well. I guess someone had it out for her," Yan-kun said before yawning. "I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me when Mom's home."
"Gonna be dreaming about Taro?" I asked, smirking. "Shut up." He mumbled as his eyes were closed. I chuckled and went back to my phone.
(Saturday)
Dad came home that afternoon, and my siblings and I were all happy to see him. My siblings and I pretended to be normal around him so he wouldn't worry.
Dad was always worried about us, even as we were growing up. Later that night, we had lunch together while watching a movie. But I couldn't help but notice some nervousness on Dad's face.
Was he afraid of Mom? I suddenly remembered the tape I had found in the basement. 'Even after spending their years together, Dad's still afraid of her?' I thought, curiously.
I wonder how Nemesis-kun will act around me if we got married? I blushed at my own thought as I slightly looked down.
"Are you okay, Amaya?" Mom asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You seem awfully focused on the TV. Is the movie that interesting?"
"Yeah... It is," I answered. "Finish watching the movie without me. I'm gonna go for a walk."
I left the house, closing the door behind me, then walked along the sidewalk. As I was passed the playground, I spotted Osorõ.
He was singlehandedly fighting some other guys from the neighborhood. He was clearly outnumbered as it seven against one.
The guys he was fighting were bigger and tougher with him, so he was losing. I didn't want to get involved, but my feet acted on their own as I found myself walking over to them.
Osorõ got punched to the ground and the leader of the other guys picking him up by the front of his shirt. Before he could land a punch on Osorõ, I grabbed his wrist.
The leader looked back at me with a frown. "Stay out of this, girl! This has nothing to do with you!" He snapped. I responded by taking out my knife and scratching his cheek.
The leader cried out in pain as he dropped Osorõ to the ground. "You bitch! You'll pay for that!" The leader yelled.
I stabbed his shoulder and he staggered back, bumping into his companions. "Anybody else wanna to get stabbed?" I asked, emotionlessly.
"Run! She's crazy! No way I'm dealing with her!" One of them said, and all seven of them scrammed.
I looked back at Osorõ as he was still on the ground, panting as he struggled to get to his feet. I tucked my knife away, then grabbed his arm and draped it over my neck, helping him to his feet.
"What... are you doing?" He asked while coughing. "Helping you," I stated, bluntly. "We need to get you to a hospital."
"No... No hospital," Osorõ said, panting slightly. "Take... Take me home."
I didn't bother arguing with him and just did as he said. He told me where he lived and I found his address. Once we were inside his house, I got him settled on his couch.
I found a washcloth and wetted it with water, then returned to Osorõ to clean his cheek. I expected Osorõ to complain, but he stayed quiet as he just blushed while avoiding eye contact with me.
"Why did you butt in?" He said after a while. "It had noting to do with you. You could've gotten yourself hurt. Why would you get in the way?"
"You're supposed to say 'thank you' when someone helps you." I stated. Osorõ frowned at me before sighing. "Do you always carry a weapon with you?" He asked.
"Sometimes. You'll never know when it might come in handy," I answered. "Why were you fighting those guys, anyway?"
"I just had some business to finish up with them. I had it handled."
"It didn't look like it to me. You were getting your butt kicked. How come your sister wasn't around to help?"
"What is this, an interrogation?
"I'm sorry if it seems that way."
"No... It's fine."
I looked at Osorõ as he was blushing slightly. "Your face is all red. Are you sure you don't want me to get you to a hospital?" I asked.
"I'm sure. You can stop now. I'm fine. I just need to get some rest," Osorõ said as he pushed my hand away from his face. "Thanks for your help, by the way..."
'Now he says it.' I thought, playfully before standing up from the couch. "I'm gonna leave now. I hope you feel better." I told him.
I let myself out and closed the door behind me, going home.
Osorõ's POV
"She sure is weird..." I mumbled. "You're realizing that now?" My sister said as she walked past me from behind the couch. "What happened to you?"
"What do you think happened? I got into a fight." I replied, sarcastically. "Why am I not surprised?" She replied, just as sarcastic, as she grabbed a soda from the fridge.
I leaned back on the couch and closed my eyes, trying to relax. "Hey, serious question. Do you like her?" Osoro asked.
"Hmm?"
"Amaya Aishi? Do you like her?"
"What kind of a question is that?"
"A serious one. Do you like her? Yes or no?"
"I don't know. Just let me take a nap."
"Tch. Getting out of questions as usual."
