Thirty Six: Memories

"Amaya~!" Mom sang from outside my door. She knocked twice before entering my room. "Your father and I will going out tonight." She informed.

"Okay." I mumbled as I wrote some things in my journal. It was Saturday night, and my parents were going out on another date.

I overheard them talking earlier and my Dad didn't like the idea of going out while they knew there was something still wrong with me.

But Mom somehow managed to convince him that everything was going to be alright. "Your brother's in charge. Be sure not to fight with him, okay?" Mom mentioned.

"I won't." I replied, emotionlessly. She kissed my head before leaving the house with Dad. I waited a few minutes after they left, then escaped through my bedroom window.

I made sure to lock my door in case Yan-kun or Ayano came to check on me. Of course, I didn't think the whole plan through. I'm only taking baby steps at the moment.

When I got to Nemesis-kun's house, I stood on the street and stared at the windows, wondering what he could be doing in there.

I instantly started getting flashback of the times I spent with my Senpai, even before we were a couple. If only I hadn't screwed it up...

"You're hopeless, you know that?"

"I know..."

Nemesis-kun held my hand as he led me to his house. I followed behind him while I gazed down at the ground. I was six years old and it was raining.

I had snuck out of the house without Yan-kun noticing me so I could play at the playground, but I lost track of time and seemingly lost my way back.

Thankfully, Nemesis-kun had found me and was leading me back to his house so I could get dried off.

Once we got to his house, he sat me down on the couch in his living room, then disappeared to get a towel.

"You know how to dry yourself, right?" Nemesis-kun asked.

"Um..."

My mom usually dries me off when she's finished giving me a bath, so I have yet to learn how to dry myself.

"You really are hopeless." He sighed. Nemesis-kun draped the towel over my head and began to dry my hair. "Thank you..." I said, hesitantly.

Nemesis-kun looked at me while pausing before returning to dry me off. "What were you doing out in the rain, anyway?" He asked. "I was playing." I answered in an emotionless tone.

"Alone?"

"Yeah... Nobody didn't want to play with me, so I played by myself."

"That's pretty dangerous. You should always be with your mother or father when you go out."

"Why?"

"Because you could get kidnapped."

"What's kidnapped?"

"It means to be taken from your family by force."

"Oh... Is that a game?"

"Of course not."

"Oh..."

Nemesis-kun finished drying my hair, then sat beside me. "Do you wanna watch some TV?" He asked. "I guess so." I answered with a shrug.

(Time skip)

I was walking down the sidewalk while kicking a rock in front of me until I spotted Nemesis-kun. He seemed to be being picked on by other boys.

In fact, they looked exactly like the boys who usually pick on me. "That's not nice..." I mumbled. I went over to them and shoved one of the bullies into the mud with both hands.

"Leave him alone," I said, emotionlessly. For some reason, the boys seemed afraid of me. They quickly ran off, leaving me confused. "Are you alright, Nemesis-kun?"

I helped him to his feet and he dusted the dirt off his clothes. "Thanks... but why help me?" He asked. "Well... You helped me before, so I thought I'd return the favor." I stated.

"But aren't I... weird to you?" Nemesis-kun asked. "No... I think you're like me... We're both empty. Incomplete even." I stated.

We stared at each other, neither of us saying a word. "Maybe you're right." He said, quietly.

A week later, I was at the playground again, once again by myself. I was crouched down in the dirt as I watched a worm poke its head out of the ground.

"Oh..." I went to touch it until a shadow loomed over me from behind. "What are you doing out here, little girl?"

I turned my head, noticing a man with short brown hair standing over me. He looked pretty handsome, but something about him seemed suspicious.

"Why are you out here by yourself? Where are you parents?" He asked. I didn't answer as I blankly stared at him.

"Aren't you going to tell me your name?" He smiled a closed-eye smile, trying to get me to talk. Again, I didn't reply.

"I'll tell you my name. My name is Mido. Mido Rana." The man said as he pointed to himself. "My friend told me I'm not supposed to talk to strangers." I stated, emotionlessly.

"Oh?" Mido asked, and I nodded my head. "Where are your parents?"

"Mommy's at home, along with Daddy." I answered while rising to my feet to face him. "And they let you come here alone? That's not good. It's really dangerous out here," Mido stated.

"Here, I'll take you to-"

"Amaya!"

I turned my head and saw Nemesis-kun running over to me. When he caught up, he grabbed my hand and pulled me behind him. "Hello, little boy. Do you know this girl?" Mido asked him.

"Yeah, she's my little sister!" Nemesis-kun lied. "Thank you for finding her, sir! We'll be going home now!" He gave a quick bow, then ran off while taking me with him.

As we ran, I looked back to see Mido waving at me with a friendly smile, his eyes closed.

(10 years later)

"Out of the way, creep! You're moving too slow!" Kokoro said as she shoved me from behind. I fell to my knees while dropping my schoolbag as she walked past me.

I stared at her as she left before picking up the papers and other books that fell out of my bag.

"Are you alright?"

I lifted my head, seeing Nemesis-kun standing in front of me. A small smile made its way on my face as he kneeled down and began to help me.

After putting all my things in my bag, he stood up and handed it to me. "Thank you..." I said, softly. "No problem. How about I walk you to class?" Nemesis-kun offered.

I blushed softly before nodding my head. He smiled at me and walked beside me.

When lunchtime came, I walked down the hall with my bento in my hands. A foot suddenly shot out, making me trip over it.

Kokoro and Kashiko snickered at me, making me frown slightly. As they walked away, I took out the knife from my skirt pocket and turned around.

Before I could walk over to them and stab them, Nemesis-kun stepped in front of me and embraced me. He had his arm wrapped around me while his other hand was over mine as I held the knife.

"There's no need for that, Amaya. Drop it," He said, softly. I hesitantly let go of the weapon, in which Nemesis-kun took it and tucked it away in his pocket.

My eyes softened as I felt relaxed in his embrace, his presence comforting. "I'm right here. I'll protect you."

I leaned myself against him before closing my eyes. His hand rested on the back of my head while his chin rested on top of it.

I feel... complete...

I smiled before closing my eyes in content.

"I miss you, Nemesis-kun..."My eyes softened as tears threatened to escape.

"I can't go one like this anymore. I can't endure much longer. I'll go insane... more than I already have," I murmured to myself.

"That's why... I've decided that I must kill you. After I kill you, I'll kill myself. That way, the two of us will be together forever."
