bonus chapter pt. 2

2 YEARS EARLIER

:::

June March had a peculiar look on her face. Not only had she been wasted for the past hour , but she was being hit on by some random guy at the party her friends dragged her to. Given the fact that she was 14 and she was quite sure this man was at least a full legal adult, she was looking for an out to this conversation. Speaking of friends, they had all abandoned her, most of them going off to talk to guys or get drunk, June being the one that was left behind.

"Do you wanna dance?" The guy shouted above the music, June giving him a tight lipped smile as she looked around for any sign of anyone she knew. She knew a lot of people, but she was looking for someone she could trust.

Her eyes widened as she felt a hand touch her waist, her lips parting as the guy pressed closed, starting to dance with her. June tried to step away, the girl pushing his chest as she struggled. He didn't seem to get the memo, sipping his drink and ignoring her attempts to flee. June once again looked forward someone she knew, her eyes wide as she realized no one was paying attention. She was 14, and she did not want to dance with this guy.

"I don't really wanna dance!" June shouted, a nervous chuckle leaving her lips as the guys hands tightened on her waist. He seemed to just ignore her,  swaying her back and forth as she started to get a little scared. One of her first parties and she was already  hating it.

"Here have another drink!" The guy shouted, pushing a cup into June's hand. His eyes boring into hers as she held the cup, a lump growing in her throat as she tried to  think of a way to refuse.  She shook her head, the guy continuing to insist as the room continued to spin around her. This was not a  good situation.

"Hey buddy, I don't think she wants the drink!" June heard from a third party, her head turning as she looked at who it was. Her eyes widened as she saw her rescuer,  her eyebrows furrowing at the sight of her brothers best friend, Rafe Cameron.  The guy turned to look at him too, shaking his head as Rafe gave the guy a pretty serious look.

"I don't think  you speak for her! She seems like she wants the drink."  The guy argued back, his hands squeezing June's waist as she looked at Rafe pleadingly. He grabbed her by the arm, pulling her from the guys grip as she stumbled over to him. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, his hand resting lazily on her collarbone and making her feel just a tad bit more sober.

"Well when grown ass men are all over my friends 15 year old sister, I'm pretty sure I have some say in what's going on."  Rafe said, the guys eyes widening as he realized how old she was. He stared at her for a minute, weighing his options before finally waving the two of them off, disappearing into the crowd. Rafe watched him until he was out of sight, the boy pushing a hair from his face as he turned to look at June.

"You alright?" He asked, putting his hands on her shoulders. She was hyper fixated on his face already, her heart fluttering under the impression that he cared. Rafe and June had  practically grown up together, Adam and Rafe being closer than any of the rest of the boys. And yet in the last year something had shifted in June, she had developed that cliche crush, the one on her brothers best friend.

"Yeah I'm good. Thanks." June said, Rafe giving her a smile as he removed his hands from her shoulders. He pushed a hair behind her ear, June feeling her stomach burst with butterflies and fireworks and whatever else she could possibly dream up. "And I'm 14...not 15. Not for another month."

He narrowed his eyes at her, unimpressed with the correction and only making him feel more anger at the old ass man who was holding her temporarily captive.

"Do me a favor and don't dance with anymore creepy guys!" Rafe shouted over the music, June giving him a sarcastic nod as she began to lift the drink to her lips. Before she could take a sip Rafe pulled it from her hand, June pouting as  he held the red cup.  "You're cut off."

"But I barely even drank!"

"June you're shitfaced. And you've already proven you can't handle yourself, so you're cut off." Rafe said, getting closer so that  he could explain it to her. "You're like my sister. I gotta protect you , you know?"

June felt her face drop, the girl nodding as she got sister zoned by the person who she thought about constantly. She felt the pang of hurt in her chest, longing maybe, at the thought of him seeing her as nothing more than a sister. She  had properly convinced herself she was in love with him, and yet she had been brutally rejected.

"Dance with me!" June shouted, swallowing her self pity and wrapping her arms around his neck. Rafe tried to refuse, but the look on her face was one he just couldn't refuse, a doubtful smile coming across his lips as he watched her hips begin to sway.  He couldn't resist, the boy letting her grab his hands, June guiding them to her waist.  Rafe felt his stomach burn, something that he  100% didn't like, given the fact that he felt like shit for feeling this way for June. Yet he didn't stop her when she pressed closer, their chests pushing together as she gave him an astute smile.

They danced for a few moments, Rafe letting himself enjoy it for a short amount of time before finally pulling away. June was reeling from the feeling of being so close to him, biting her lip as she reveled in the feeling of having his hands on her waist.

"Do you need anything else?" Rafe pulled her from her thoughts, June shaking her head as she wiped her face. She started to feel as if the world was spinning even more frantically than before, the floor feeling like it was shaking as she felt Rafes presence start to go away. June had a thought, wanting to enjoy the warmth of her bed now that she was already drunk, realizing there was nothing to stay here for.

"Hey Rafe. Hey wa-" June stumbled, the boy catching her as she started to fall. The Cameron boy quickly realized that his night was over, he was gonna have to take her home or he'd never be able to live with himself.

"Alright let's get you home." He said, halfway holding her up as he tried to pull her towards the door. She gave up halfway through, Rafe having to pick her up and throw her over his shoulder as he made his way out to the car. He said his goodbyes to numerous people, the boy remembering that Adam had went home with some girl, meaning he was on his own tonight.

Rafe pulled the car for open, sitting the girl in the seat and buckling her seatbelt. He rounded the car, taking a deep breath before getting inside. He was met with June's skeptical eyes, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion as he looked at her.

"What?"

"Why are you being so nice to me?" June slurred, Rafe letting out a chuckle as he started the car. He hadn't ever really been so mean to her, he blamed her strange mood swing on the alcohol coursing through her.

"I don't ... I don't think I've ever been mean to you. Besides there's no way I'm gonna leave you stranded in there. You're practically my sister." June scoffed at that, the alcohol guiding her as she spoke.

"Can you stop saying that? I'm not like your sister." Rafe was confused by her rage, the boy shaking his head as he pulled away from the party. June crossed her arms over her chest, feeling frustrated at being rejected once again. Rafe noticed the disgusted look on her face, his eyebrows knitting together as he spoke.

"I'm sorry I guess. What's so bad about being my sister?" Rafe joked, looking over at the girl as the street lamps illuminated her face. She let out a scoff, Rafe already pulling onto her street as she answered.

"I don't wanna be your fucking sister Rafe. I want—nevermind." Rafe felt a second meaning behind that, his eyes twitching slightly as he looked over at the March girl. He would be lying if he said he hadn't thought about it before, June and him. Sometimes he had even pictured a relationship, and in the last year, they had both matured a lot.

The silence settled between them, Rafe seeming to understand what she meant and June seeming to regret what she had said  almost immediately. Rafe pulled into the March driveway, parking the car and looking over at her.  He took a deep breath, his eyes tracing over her features before he felt guilt seep into his bones.

"June do you need help getting inside?" Rafe asked, his eyes falling on her as he tried to ease some of the already overbearing tension in the car. She shook her head, unbuckling the seatbelt and silently getting out of the car. Rafe watched her as she walked up the driveway, his eyes widening as she stumbled and fell into a shrub.

"Shit." He sighed out, unbuckling his seatbelt and turning the car off. He got to her as quickly as he could, the girl laughing maniacally as he lifted her from the bush.

"Maybe I do need help." She laughed out, Rafe shaking his head in annoyance as he pulled her towards the door. Mr. and Mrs. March were away on business, meaning that Adam was in charge of June, and since Adam was gone, Rafe was in charge of June. He unlocked the door, making his way upstairs immediately, his hand on her chest and around her waist as he tried to steady her. He tried to ignored exactly where his hands were placed, trying to push the thoughts of her out of his head as he struggled up the stairs.

He pushed her bedroom door open, his eyes widening as he saw her dirty clothes on the floor. He pulled her towards the bed as she laughed, lifting her up and laying her on top of the blankets with a grunt. He covered her up, tucking her in and looking down at her. He let out a relieved sigh, his work here was done.

"Goodnight kiss?" June joked, lifting her arms from the bed and trying to grab him. His breath stopped in his throat, his eyebrows furrowing as he thought about it for a moment. Then he thought of Adam, the possibility of him giving into her offer diminishing as he shook his head.

"Goodnight June." Rafe said, letting out a short laugh as he turned on his heel. He scurried out of the room as quickly as possible, closing the door behind him and pressing his back to it. He closed his eyes for only a moment, giving himself a short talk about how he needed to stop thinking about June March the way that he was.

Rafe contemplated what to do next, wondering if he was meant to go home or if he should wait here just in case. He voted for the ladder, justifying the  decision in his head instead of admitting that he just wanted an excuse to stay. He headed down the stairs, making his way into the living room and turning on the tv. He dropped onto the couch, his eyes glued to the television as he got comfortable.

No matter how much he tried to focus on the tv he couldn't keep her out of his mind, his leg bouncing nervously as he tried to fight this internal battle. He respected Adam more than that, but June had becoming more appealing recently, she was something different. And by different Rafe meant, she wasn't a carbon copy of his sister, like all the other kook girls were.

He watched some football game for awhile, his eyes stuck to the tv as he thought about how much fun Adam was probably having. Rafe was on the verge of passing out from boredom when he heard shuffling around the kitchen, his eyes reopening as he looked towards the other room.

June was standing in the kitchen, pouring herself a drink as she looked at her phone. Rafe shook his head before looking back at the tv, of course she was up again. June turned her head, her eyes catching onto the teenage boy laying on her couch. There was a single thought that went through her head, her smirk being quite devilish as she looked at Rafe.

June grabbed her glass of sweet tea, reopening the fridge and grabbing a beer before making her way towards the living room. Rafe watched as she stepped into the room, his eyes following her as she stared at him. She made a move to sit beside him, his eyes narrowing as he quickly sat up. She gave him a tight smile, offering the beer to him. He looked at it for a second in confusion before taking it from her hand, using the wooden table to open it.

"Thanks." He said skeptically, breaking the silence and taking a sip of the beer. She took a sip of her tea before pushing a hair behind her ear.

"Where's Adam?" She got right to the point, taking another sip of her drink as she raised her eyebrows in anticipation. Rafe smiled, taking a sip of his beer before setting it down on the table in front of him.

"He went to a girls house. Why? Do you need something else? Why are you still up?" He asked genuinely, his smile dropping as he saw the look on her face.

"So it's...just us here." June said, sitting back on the couch and facing forwards, a dissapointed look on her face. Rafe was confused about what was happening, grabbing the beer and taking another swig before sitting back as well.

"Yeah. So what do you need? You need a ride or something?" He asked. June shook her head, sipping at her drink and crossing her arms over her chest. His eyes followed the movement, quickly averting when he noticed how inappropriate it was for him to be looking at her at all. She leaned forwards, putting her sweet tea on the table and then sitting back again.

"No I'm just...bored." She said, plucking the beer from his hand and sipping it. He watched as the bottle connected with her lips, he was confused about what was happening, but he ignored the ache in his stomach and just smiled again. "I was gonna come down and watch you and Adam play a game or something but I guess since he's not here...I'll just go back upstairs. I cant sleep." She handed the beer back to him, standing from her spot and grabbing her glass. Rafe almost panicked, he was bored too, and company was company.  He cursed himself for what he was about to do, but he did it anyways.

"We could play a game." He suggested, looking up at her from the couch. She turned, thinking about it for a minute before nodding. She definitely wouldn't turn down this opportunity. June looked down at him with a smile, realizing her plan was going the way she wanted it to. She was unsure why she felt this strongly about spending time with him tonight,  it usually wasn't this bad but they were alone, Adam wasn't coming home tonight. She figured it was because of how close he was to the family, the fact that he was always around, maybe because he was so pretty, and always really nice to June.

She smiled and nodded, walking back towards the kitchen and opening the fridge. She grabbed a few more beers from inside, closing it with a smile as she headed back into the room. He smiled at the drinks, standing to head towards the game console. She opened one, drinking a few sips of it before sitting down, watching his every move as he picked a shooting game for the two of them to play.

"I told you you were cut off."

"Well that was 30 minutes ago. I'm fine now."

"I didn't know you liked playing games."

"Correction I like watching them. I have no idea how to play."  She corrected, giving him a nervous smile as he handed her a controller.

"I'll teach you, don't worry about it." He said, making her heartbeat quicken as he did so. He started the game, June running around aimlessly and trying to use the gun.  She was killed within mere seconds, Rafe laughing as she started to respawn. It took her another three deaths before she let out a frustrated sigh, Rafe chuckling as he looked over at how frustrated she was.

"This game is stupid." She exclaimed, using the controls to run around.

"You gotta-" Rafe reached over with his hand, grabbing her fingers and putting them on the correct controls to fire the gun. Her heart skipped a beat as their hands touched and she pressed the button with the help of his fingers, the girl killing someone in the game.

"Yes! I did it!" She yelled, jumping up from the sofa and throwing her arms in the air. Rafe smiled up at her, his eyes tracing over her as he realized what she was wearing. She was wearing a cropped tank top and a skirt, his eyes jumping to the area where she was exposed on her stomach, and the way that her shirt lifted when she raised her arms to cheer. His eyes dropped to her legs and then he looked down at the floor, feeling shitty for checking her out. This was his best friends little sister.

"Good job. Even though i- you know- did all the work." He said, making the girl roll her eyes. She dropped down beside him, smiling as the round ended. Their legs were touching now, the younger girl beaming with excitement as she looked at the screen. Her eyes moved from the screen, going to look at Rafe, surprised to see that he was already looking at her.  He cleared his throat quickly, gesturing towards the tv.

"You wanna play another round?" He asked, making June think for a moment. She settled on a great idea, her eyes widening as she thought about how she would get her way with this.

"No...we should play a different game. A funner game."

"What do you have in mind?" Rafe asked, trying to ignore the fact that their shoulders and knees were touching.  June smirked, making his stomach twirl  as he saw a bit of evil dance around in her eyes, before he furrowed his eyebrows, not quite sure what she was going to say next.

"Truth or dare." She said, making a smile frown on his face.

"You're trying to get me in trouble aren't you." He said, shaking his head at her. June laughed out, a smile on her lips as she shook her head as well.  She pouted her lips, already planning out her moves as she tried to convince him.

"No I just think it'll be fun."

"Alright but we don't tell Adam, he'll assume the worst." Rafe said, pointing to June as she let out a excited yell. "Me first. Truth or dare?" Rafe asked, taking a sip of a beer.

"Dare of course."  June said, sitting on her  legs as she turned her body towards him.

"Hm, okay. Dare. Uh. I got it. I dare you to text Zach and tell him you have a crush on him." Rafe said, raising his eyebrows at the girl.  June felt panic course through her, her face lighting up as she shook her head.

"Zach? Why Zach?" She asked, feeling her heartbeat quicken. She did have a thing for Zach, and they had been flirting a lot lately, but she had her sights set on something bigger, a better catch.

"Because that guy is nuts about you. Literally talks about you all the time. I think you two should quit playing your little game and just date."  A pit burrowed itself into June's stomach as Rafe tried to convince her to date someone else.  He gestured towards her phone, June giving him a doubtful look before finally picking it up, the girl sending the text as quickly as possible before  letting out a gasp, putting the phone down on the table. She pulled the beer from Rafes hand again, taking a large gulp before he pulled it from her hands, shaking his head at her.

"Truth or dare?" June asked, ignoring the way he took the drink from her hand and continuing with the game. Rafe seemed to think about it for a moment, trying to go with the least dangerous option, realizing that it was bad either way, but there was a slightly better option.

"Truth."

"Okay...do you like me?" June asked, looking down at her hands as she waited for an answer.  Rafe felt a pit drop in his own stomach, the boy immediately going with the safe option again.

"Yeah of course I like you. You're Adams sister, you're pretty cool-" June looked up at him with a pointed look and he realized what she actually meant. There was no getting away from this one. "-oh. You meant...I mean, yeah. You're really pretty, I like you." He finished, scratching awkwardly at the back of his neck as he watched her face light up. She smiled, sitting up and facing him on the couch.  There was a strange tension in the room, June's demeanor immediately changing as she spoke again.

"Truth or dare?" She said, making him shake his head.

"It's my turn to ask."

"Truth or dare?" She repeated, her eyes locking onto his mouth as his grin dropped.  His eyes traced over her features, a new feeling blooming in his chest as he held his breath. He knew what was going to happen, the Cameron boy trying with all his might to resist but he couldn't. There was just something about her.

"Dare." He let out, feeling the air in the room shift. They were both facing each other on the couch, and he couldn't help himself from looking at her now. June used all of her confidence to say the next sentence, a nervous looking covering her face as she spoke.

"I dare you to kiss me." June said lowly, looking up from her hands to his shocked face. Suddenly the atmosphere changed again , June was staring at him with burning eyes and he was faced with a terrible choice. He sucked in a deep breath before reaching out and grabbing her face, the girls breathing virtually stopping.

"A dares a dare." Rafe said, his face getting closer as he knitted his fingers into her long black hair. His eyes dropped once again to her outfit, and he couldn't help but shake his head. The trip to her lips was painstakingly long because the whole way there he was trying to decide if he should kiss her or not.

When their lips met, June's breath left her again quickly, her heartbeat definitely above 150. The kiss was tender at first, a small peck. There were all the fireworks, every single one lighting between them and exploding in the air above them. Rafe felt himself become optionless, there was only one way to go now. June savored the feeing of his lips against hers, the small peck making her swoon in every way imaginable. Except when Rafe started to pull away, June stopped him, pushing her lips onto him again. This kiss was heated, her hands wrapping around his neck as she changed position on the couch, going onto her knees as they kissed. She quickly scrambled forwards, climbing onto his lap and making him breathe out heavily, his arm going to her exposed waist.  The heat between them was unmatched, Rafes fingers burning into her skin as he reveled in her likeness and the way that she wanted him so completely.

He pulled back for only a moment, looking up at the girl on top of him and thinking about how wrong this was. But when she looked back down at him he had already made up his mind, this was happening. He kissed her again, a groan escaping his lips as he did so. In these moments he realized how bad he had actually wanted this, she had caught his eye for awhile now.

June hovered over him, his lips going to her neck and jaw as she giggled slightly. She had never done anything like this. So to think that it was with Rafe of all people, she felt lucky. He flipped them, June's back connecting with the sofa. Rafes lips were still stuck to her neck, their legs tangled together as Rafes hand started to fiddle with the hem of June's shirt. He finally got the balls to put his hand under there, feeling the skin underneath as June gasped.  His fingertips scorched her skin, leaving tingling trails where they were, his sloppy kisses dropping to her collarbone as he felt himself getting carried away. He really had wanted this, her, for longer than he thought.

Moments later he pulled his hand out of her shirt, dropping it to the hem of her skirt and sliding his hand up her thigh. The second that he felt the band of her underwear something awakened in him, Rafe pushing away from her and standing.  June looked at him in confusion, her face and cheeks burning as she tried to regather herself.

"What's wrong?" June asked, sitting up from where she was laying and fixing her shirt that was riding up. His eyes traced over her before her dropped his face into his hands, shaking his head.

"Nothings wrong. Believe me...I want to do this but—I just- I don't think this is what Adam meant when he said take care of my sister okay? This is not allowed this is-"

"But I like you. Who cares what Adam thinks he's not here?!" June interrupted, her face starting to get red from embarrassment. She covered her face now, only for a second, before dropping her hands, tears gathering in her eyes at the sudden mood change. She felt the rejection coming, her chest tightening as she fixed her fallen strap.

"I like you too. I do. But your brother is not gonna be okay with this." Rafe thought of how bad Adam would beat his ass if he found out this happened. He sat down beside her on the couch, turning towards her and trying to reason with her.

"He doesn't have to know. We can keep us a secret." June said, wrapping her arms around his neck. He looked over her face, he really did like her, but if he was going to do this then he wanted to do it right, for Adams sake.  He wasn't the best at doing the right thing all the time but this... this was different. He had never felt this way before. He couldn't fuck it up.

"There's no us June." Rafe shook his head, pulling her arms off of his shoulders. June grinned a little bit, leaning forwards slightly and getting in his face. She brushed their lips together, Rafe not moving but instead closing his eyes. Before their lips could connect she pulled back, giving him a kind smile.

"I think there's an us. I um...I won't tell Adam if you won't. And me and you? Maybe we can do something with whatever this is..." June stood from the couch, giving him another smile before grabbing a beer from the table and heading towards the rooms exit.  June had gotten exactly what she wanted, her mischievous smirk returning to her lips as she headed out of the room. Rafe watched after her, his eyes glued to her figure before he spit out another sentence.

"If we're gonna do this I want to do it right. Take you on a date first. That's what...that's what Adam would do. Right?" Rafe said, feeling strange for caring so much. Adam and June made him feel different, Adam was the closest thing he had to a brother, the closest thing he had to a real family that cared about him. He couldn't mess that up. But June was something else.

June looked at Rafe, her head tilting to the side. She gave him a glimpse of her evil little smirk, Rafe realizing he had indeed been swindled, and now he was too far in to give this up.

"I'd love to go on a date with you."
