don't set me on fire and then act like you're the one burning

"DID I miss something?" Elena asked as she, Bonnie, and Echo walked down the hallway of the school, seeing Caroline and Matt talking with smiles on their faces.

"They've been hanging out," Echo stated with a shrug.

Elena looked confused. "Kind of weird, don't you think?"

"She needs someone nice like him," Echo stated, shrugging. "She deserves better, though."

Bonnie nodded and retorted, "As opposed to a homicidal vampire like Damon."

"Yeah," Elena said, "How are you doing with all of that?"

"I'm freaked out," Bonnie stated, sighing. "Damon attacked me. I could be dead right now. But I'm also grateful. To Stefan. He saved my life, and... have you seen him?"

Elena took off her scarf as she opened her locker, saying, "Not since he told me he was leaving." Echo sighed and leaned up against the locker beside her sister. "For all I know, he's already gone."

"He wouldn't leave without saying good-bye," Bonnie told Elena in disbelief.

Echo shrugged. "He would if he thinks he's protecting her. Clean break and all that." Been there, done that.

"So, what are you gonna do?" Bonnie asked.

Elena shrugged and asked, "What am I supposed to do?" She sighed. "I already begged him not to go. If I ask again, I'm being selfish. It is what it is."

"Well, maybe it's for the best," Bonnie said as they all continued walking down the hallway.

Elena looked confused at that. "What? Why?"

"I mean, what kind of future could you have had with him, even if he stayed?"

Suddenly, the banner that two people were trying to put up fell in front of them, and it read: "The promise of your future."

"Did you just—" Echo was cut off by Bonnie saying, "No, I swear."

Elena pushed past the sign, and the two girls had no choice but to follow after their upset friend.

LATER that night, they were at the career fair.

"HIDE me," Jenna said as she and Echo walked towards Elena and Stefan later.

"What's going on?" Elena asked, confused, her eyebrows pulled together.

Echo sighed before sticking her tongue out in disgust. "The Scum Fell has landed."

Elena sighed and asked, "Logan's here?"

"Wait, Logan Fell?" Stefan asked in confusion. He immediately rushed out of the room, and Elena, Echo, and Jenna followed him, confused.

"What's going on?" Echo asked, confused, her eyebrows raised in confusion.

"Jenna, are you dodging me?" Logan asked, walking up the four.

"It's a form of self-preservation," Jenna stated, crossing her arms, doing what Echo had told her; stand her ground.

"Um, Elena, why don't you, Echo, and Jenna go somewhere else?" Stefan suggested.

Echo nodded upon realizing Logan had to be an enemy, so she looped her arm with Jenna's. "Come on. Let's get away from Scum Fell from Hell." Elena had followed shortly after them.

AS they walked through the hallways, Elena asked, "When Logan came to the house, what did he say?"

"Fake flattery. Stupid, dimpled grin," Jenna answered. "Puppy dog eyes."

"We're serious, Jenna," Echo stated, lookong her aunt in the eyes, hoping she would understand. "How did he act? What did he say?"

Jenna nodded and thought for a second before speaking, "He was the usual Logan. He was charming, little more manic than usual. He kept trying to convince me to let him in." Noticing the look that Elena and Echo gave each other, she asked, "What?"

"Okay, listen to me very carefully," Echo practically demanded, placing her hand on Jenna's shoulders. "Do not, under any circumstances, talk to him again. I'm serious, Jenna."

"Hey, you two," was heard behind them which made Echo drop her hold on Jenna, and turn around to see Alaric standing behind them. He smiled at Jenna and said, "Jenna."

"Hi, Mr. Saltzman,"

He smiled, keeping his eyes on Jenna. "I was hoping to, uh, see you tonight."

"Career night is the new bowling," Jenna said with a smile.

Echo forced a smile at the two lovebirds, grabbed Elena's hand, and said, "Excuse us."

They headed outside, seeing Stefan on the phone, and they marched up to him as he finished his call, placing his phone in his pocket.

"So anything you'd like to share?" Elena asked as she and Echo stood in front of the vampire.

After explaining everything he knew about how Logan Fell was now a vampire, they all headed back inside before being stopped by Matt, saying, "Hey."

"Have you seen Logan Fell, the news guy?" Echo asked, getting straight to the point.

He nodded and said, "Yeah, he just gave Caroline a ride home."

Echo paled and then clenched her hands and jaw in anger.

Stefan turned to them, ordering, "Stay here."

That angered Echo. "No. I'm going to help—"

"I can't let him get a hold of you, the both of you. Stay." And at that, Stefan quickly left which made Elena try and calm her twin down.

ECHO relaxed slightly as she saw Stefan walked into the school. She walked up to him, concerned. "Is she okay? If she's not, I'm going to kick your ass into another universe."

"She's okay," Stefan said, but it still didn't calm her down. "I took her home." She crossed her arms and tilted her head. "She was shaken up, but all she knows is Logan attacked her. Nothing else."

"Where's Logan?" Echo immediately asked, wanting to kick the man's ass for hurting the her friend. Even though, deep down, it's hard for her to admit she cares for Caroline because of all the years in the hunting business where she didn't get attached to anyone.

"Damon's... dealing with him," Stefan stated.

Echo made an "ah" noise and clicked her tongue. "I hope he makes him pay." She smirked as she thought of ideas on how to torture Logan.

"Echo!" Elena exclaimed, shaking her head at her twin before facing Stefan.

LATER that night, Echo got a call from Elena and answered it.

"Hello?"

"O," Elena said as she sniffled. "Stefan lied to us."

"About what?" Echo asked, frowning at all the papers scattered around her. She searched up every bit of history that she could that revolves around Mystic Falls. And somewhere around the scattered papers, she has homework that she had to do.

"We are copies of Katherine," Elena stated. "Well, not you, really."

Echo scrunched her eyebrows together. "Huh? Come again..." She stopped what she was doing and brought out her laptop, searching up news articles to find anything about Shapeshifters.

"I look identical to her," Elena said. "There is not one mark on her that differs from me. She is me."

Echo clicked her tongue. "You're saying that she could be our twin — our triplet, I mean?"

"Yes!" Elena exclaimed, sniffling. "The only thing that is weird is that she was a vampire when she knew Stefan and Damon."

Echo narrowed her eyes and said. "What the hell?"

"Can you come and pick me up?"

Echo nodded even though Elena couldn't see her. "I'm coming."

ON her way to pick up Elena, she had glanced down at her phone because Elena had sent her a text message to make sure she was on her way.

And in that split second of glancing down, she didn't see the person step out in the road.

When she looked up, she gasped, stepped on the break, but it wasn't fast enough, because her car hit the person, and went tumbling.

Every other window shattered as the car did flips and turns in the air just before landing onto the road again to do a few rolls. The broken glass flew in every direction, slicing her in many different places.

Her head banged against the back of the seat, making her shout out in pain. The seat belt
clutched onto her body tightly, trapping her. And when the car came to a stop, she landed upside down.

Echo coughed, looking around, her vision first blurry it began to get better. When she regained her vision, she tried to figure out how to get out of this. She reached for her seat belt buckle and tried to push the red button down, but it was jammed. "Fuck!" She exclaimed before groaning, her own voice hurting her head.

She coughed once more, little speckles of blood landing on the roof.

She placed her hands above her, and pushed as much as she could to lessen the hurt of the seatbelt that was pushing on her. And when she did, she spotted a shadow coming towards her. Her eyes widened and she reached for her dagger that was in her boot, but she couldn't.

As the shadow got closer, she struggled more, but then the figure disappears, and then standing in his place was Damon "How are ya hangin?"

"Damon?" Echo gasped in pain.

"You're stuck." He looked her over. "And hurt."

Damon stood, trying to budge the car but couldn't, so he bent back down "I'm gonna get you out of there. I want you to put your hands on the roof. Just like that." She did as told a d Damon reached up to grip the seatbelt. "I'm going to break the seat belt, okay?" She nodded and couldn't help but stare into his eyes. "1, 2, 3."

Echo groaned as Damon pulled the seat belt, and he caught her as quickly as he could.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he carried her away from the wreck. And once far enough away, he made Echo stand so he can look at the injuries the wreck had caused. There was multiple cuts littering her face; on her cheek bone, across her left eyebrow, her jaw, and she had glass embedded into her hands. She even had cuts on her chest since she was wearing a tank top. And it looked like she had an already growing bruise on her forehead.

Echo started to fall, but Damon held onto her. "Whoa, you're fading. Echo look at me. Focus. Look at me."

Echo turned her head to look him in the eyes as he ran one of his hands through her hair which held multiple glass pieces. She opened her mouth about to say something, but her head pounded, and she collapsed.

He caught her quickly and looked at her carefully before picking her back up. He didn't know why, but he didn't want her hurt, he wanted to save her... and this feeling was confusing him more than anything "Upsy-daisy." He lifted her up and held her bridal style, before heading to his car.
