-Sienna's P.O.V

"Okay before you start your human trial you need to learn to defend yourself" David said, walking around me with his hands behind his back. Stopping once he was in front of me.

"Why?"

"Because we won't be around to protect you, humans can be just as bad in the day than night" he informed me. I looked over at the others raising an eyebrow, each of them just shrugged. David began to remove his long trench coat and gloves, resting them on his bike. He had let us go a secluded area. I grew anxious.

"First I want to see what you've got so.." he came over to me and placed my hands how he wanted them.

"Like this?" I curled my fists like he instructed and waited for him to tell me my next set of instructions. He stepped back.

"Good, now I want you to throw a punch at me" David told me. I looked at him gone out. I heard my mum mutter to herself in disagreement.

"Be gentle David" my dad spoke up. David just waved him off.

"She won't get me! Okay kid, show me what you got!"

I didn't even hesitate. My left fist flew forward connecting with David's nose. His head quickly flew back and then regained position. I heard the others roar with laughter at what just happened. David stared at me in utter shock. I looked back at him trying so hard to suppress my laughter.

"Where did that come from?" He asked after clearing his throat.

"I've been wanting to do that since the night you hit me when I was a kid" I admitted with a grin.

"That's my girl!" I glanced over at my dad who started cheering. "She got you good D!"

"I didn't even see it coming" David rubbed his nose. "You will pay for that"

"Huh?" Before I could register anything, my back was against a tree and David had a hold on my throat, not too hard.

"David be gentle!" I heard mom yell.

"Come on Sienna, get out of it" I didn't know what else to do. I wiggled a little to see what body part I was able to move with ease. David let out a grunt when my knee connected with his family jewels, I heard the others wince for David. His grip on my throat released and I ran over to the others. Dwayne grabbed me and hid me behind his back.

"Remind me not to get on your bad side" Marko whispered into my ear. I turned to see him chewing on his nail. I smirked and stood on my tiptoes, putting my lips to his ear.

"You already are" my smirk dropped and I turned back around not bothering to see his reaction and clung to Dwayne's jacket.

"Well least she knows what to do in a panic situation" I heard David's voice clear as he approached us.

"What do you expect I taught her everything I know!" My mom stated proudly. David just snarled.

"Come on out Sienna, I have so much to teach you"

~Time Skip~

We had been at it for hours and I was sore by the time we had finished. The others had left us once they saw that David was going to be gentle. However, I told David to go full out, my reason being was if I'm going to be attacked, they won't be gentle about it and I wanted to be prepared. He hesitated at first but saw my point. But I did learn a lot.

"How's your shoulder?" David asked putting his gloves back on.

"Stings a little but I'll be fine"

"You did good, the student has become the master" he joked. I took him by surprise when I wrapped my arms around him. He stood stunned for a second before returning the hug.

"Thank you uncle David"

"For what?"

"For caring"

"Of course your family. I'm not completely heartless you know. I may come across as cold but not with people that mean something to me. Don't tell anyone I said that!" David pulled away and held my shoulders with his hands. "So I'm hoping by the time this is all done you make the right decision" I playfully rolled my eyes, knowing what he meant.

"Trust me it would be a lot easier if.." I stopped speaking.

"If what?"

"Nothing. Forget I said anything." I walked towards his bike.

"If Marko could just make up his mind?" I stopped dead in my tracks and spun to face him. He had that signature cocky smile.

"How did you know?" I asked in disbelief

"I know everything. And I'm no idiot." I huffed and went to go sit on a log instead, resting my chin in my palm.

"I just don't understand" David gave me a sympathetic look and took a seat beside me.

"Marko is very complex, but I don't blame him either. He's been through a lot in his lifetime"

"What do you mean" David sighed.

"I never told you this understood?" He asked. I nodded and sat up straight, eager to hear what he had to say. "Marko doesn't believe in having a girlfriend, or being soul mates with someone either being in love"

"Why?" My voice was low.

"When Marko first turned, he had a girlfriend. Her name was Roxy. In my opinion she was a complete bitch, had Marko wrapped around his little finger. But he was in love with her for some reason. He did anything for her, worshipped the ground she walked on. Anyway, he tried to convince her to drink from the bottle and spend eternity with him. He still hadn't made the full transition yet may I add"

"So he was only half?" I asked interrupting him quickly.

"That's right. She refused but promised to never tell anyone our secret. And like fools, we all believed her. After about a week she started becoming distant with Marko and him being head over heels for her began to feel a certain type of way. Paul tried telling him it was just her getting use to the decision Marko had made but no he was wrong. When it came time for Marko to complete the initiation, he found Roxy on the board walk with another guy, caught them making out or whatever, but it was clear she was sleeping with this guy by how handsy they were. He confronted her, she didn't like it. They both got into a full blown fight but by this time we had gotten them away from any sort of crowd. But damn they fought hard. She threatened to reveal our secret. Typical woman couldn't stand getting caught so she threatened to expose us, stupid bitch. Out of anger and heart break, she became Marko's first victim. It destroyed him. He vowed to never love again" I let a tear fall onto my cheek.

"Poor Marko" I finally got it, I understood why he acted the way he did. I felt awful for him.

"But he went back on his word too" David smiled at me.

"How?"

"He loves you Sienna. He's just too scared to admit it to anyone, even himself"

"He doesn't love me" I muttered.

"Oh believe me kid, he really does. Why do you think you guys are so close?"

"Well he's my best friend" I argued the fact.

"You're about as dumb as he his" David face palmed. "And I know you feel the same for him and don't fool me. I've seen the way you've been looking at him for a while."

"I...I..." I stuttered before accepting defeat and nodding.

"Listen to me. Marko is going to do things that will hurt you, he'll come across as a dick, act like he doesn't care or feel the same for you. But it's just his way of denying his true feelings for you. He's afraid to be in love with you, in fear of losing you or worse" He explained.

"If he really does feel that way, I just wish he was more honest with me" I sighed.

"Give him time Sienna, but trust what I say" I felt a flutter in my heart. I felt warm and giddy inside. But I had to suppress it before I embarrassed myself. "And don't worry, I won't tell your parents"

"Thank you David" he helped me stand up from the log.

"No problem, don't tell Marko we had this conversation" I did the zip motion on my lip. "You did great today. Just remember, don't put yourself in a vulnerable situation."
