Chapter 39: Another Month
The next morning I could hardly wake up, Gally had to literally pull me from bed.
"Come on, Princess, let's go get you some coffee, looks like you're gonna need it!"
"Princess?" I scrunched my nose.
He shrugged his shoulders, "tryin' a find a name that works."
"I have an idea, its wild and it's pretty out there."
"Oh yeah? What's that?"
"Charlie." I said dryly.
"Huh. It's pretty. I like it. Charlie you will be then."
He chuckled while I rolled my eyes.
"Now come on, if you don't move it, Minho is going to leave without you!"
I groaned, slumping my shoulders. The idea of actually physically running all day made me way to hide back in bed. Gally held the door open for me and ushered me out, when I passed he slapped my ass. I spun towards him.
"It's still a cute ass." He growled in my ear pulling me closer.
"Hey! Cut the PDA!" Newt called, he was just leaving our room.
Gally smirked, "you're just jealous!"
Newt rolled his eyes. And waited for us to catch up.
"How are you feeling today, Love?"
"Hey! How come he can use a cute pet name but you scoff at me?" Gally pouted.
"Cuz he's Newt. And I am no such Princess. More like...kick your shuck butt assassin Ninja Warrior!"
I rolled my eyes. Snacking my arm around his waist and high fiving Newt who chuckled.
Gally rolled his eyes in response. We had made it to the kitchen, and the smell hit me hard. And I stopped dead.
"Uh oh." I muttered.
Gally glanced at me, "you gonna be okay here?"
I nodded, breathing through my mouth.
"Go sit I'll bring you a plate." Gally gently pushed me towards a table.
I made my way to the table and sank down.
"You're lookin' rough Tiger." Minho frowned.
"Why thank you Mouse." I rolled my eyes, "waiting for coffee....ahh and here it is now!"
Gally had come over with a tray of two plates and two cups of coffee. Gally placed the food and mug down. I picked up the coffee and hummed contently. I took a big sip. My eyes widened and a got up from the bench as quickly as I could and took off, away from the table.

Charlie shot up and ran from the table. Gally and the rest of the guys watched her go. Gally groaned and put his head in his hand.
"Dude, she is not handling that well." Minho shook his head.
"Is there any way to keep her back? How is she gonna run all day?" Gally asked the few guys at the table.
Alby, Newt, Minho, Ben and Jax all shrugged.
"Why would you keep her back? She sick?" Frypan asked as he and Vinny slid onto the bench with them.
Gally went slightly pink. Minho and Jax snorted. Newt sighed heavily.
"In a sense yes." Newt said matter of factly.
"She's pregnant. Isn't she." Jeff said from behind.
There was a tense silence, which only confirmed the statement.
"How...how did you know?" Gally asked.
"Come on shank, I'm a MedJack. It's my job. Also...I can do the math." Jeff rolled his eyes.
"Well...it's not like official. We're still hoping it's just the Changing after effects." Gally said hopefully.
"Yeah, and I'm running for president." Minho rolled his eyes.
Gally groaned and banged his head on the table, and left it there. Newt patted his back sympatheticly.
"Minho. You better keep her safe in that maze! She is a stubborn shank." Gally picked his head up and glared at him.
"Come on ya shank! You know I will! She's a shucken sister! I ain't gonna leave her behind!"
Gally nodded slowly.
"Come on man, she means a lot to all of us. We'll keep an eye on her." Ben said, pointing a fork at him.
Gally didn't really want to admit it, but hel had no idea what to do, or how to help her. He felt like he was drowning. He still struggled with his own anxieties and nightmares from the changing. And then he went and made the biggest mistake of his life, even with his memory erased, he knew this was the biggest shuck up. He was trying so hard to be there for Charlie...but life seemed to throw even more Klunk at him.
He just felt like he was drowning in all the chaos, the ade wasn't running the same as it used to, Alby was allowing more and more brawls, the allowed Charlie to become a runner, without it going through the council and a Griever was seen during the day and the Gladers from inside the Glade had seen it. He knew a girl in the Glade would change things. Some for the better...but some...he was still unsure about. He did know that he loved her. And he would do anything and everything to keep her safe.
Charlie came back to the table, looking a bit pale.
"Coffee is a no." She whispered, and layed her forehead on Gally's shoulder.
Gally reached this other hand and cupped the back of her head, he kissed the top of her head.
"You'll be okay...maybe some tea?" He suggested.
Charlie picked her head up and gave him a small smile.
"That sounds good." She nodded.
She turned her attention, apprehensively to the plate of food. She slowly picked at it. Frypan came back with a mug of steaming peppermint tea. Gally saw her eyes get glass, when she looked at Fry and gave him a smile.
"Thank you."
He nodded.
They all finished eating. Charlie got up slowly, but forced a smile. She was stubborn and determined. Gally gave her that, she had a job to do and she would do it. And only complain to him later after it was done.
"Come on!" Minho called, walking towards the Map Room.
Charlie turned to Gally and kissed him quick before going off flight the Runners.
At the end of the day he would anxiously wait for her by the door. She would always turn up. Each day her mood got worse and worse, she was still sick every morning, but found that having a few snacks and water by her bed helped. Gally tried getting her to talk, but she wouldn't say anything about the goings on in the Maze.
Minho got more sullen and he smiled less, all the Runners did. He noticed they would stay out later and later, pushing the time limites. A few times they just barly made it back.
"Would you just talk to me!" Gally pleaded.
Charlie was sitting cross legged on their bed, looking away.
"I can't help if you don't talk."
"You can't help. You're not a runner Gally."
He threw his hands into the air. He passed up and down the room, running his hand through his hair.
Man she was as stubborn as a mule! A pretty mule...but stubborn none the less. He stopped pacing and looked at her. She sat hunched over, her face pale and thin. She hadn't been eating very good. Ben and Jax kept him updated on how she was doing inside the Maze. They always told him she would eat, but it usually came back up. He didn't know how to help, they had even asked the Creators for something. And nothing was sent. He was responsible for this whole mess and the guilt would hit him like a punch to the stomach each time.
He sank to his knees in front of her. He pulled one of her hands free, absentmindedly spinning the ring on her finger.
(She had told him at one point about when the ring came up. And showed him the note. Both of them didn't know what to do about it.)
"Charlie...I..please tell what I can do! Your not eating or sleeping, you can't keep anything down, your nightmares are worse, your angry and snappy more than anything else...please! Tell what to do!"
He could hear the despiration in his voice. She finally raised a tear streaked face to his. Her eyes looked so broken and lost.
"The voices keep whispering it's good, and all for the greater good...but how is being stuck inside a stone prison with no way out a good thing?"
Her voice broke and she looked away, tears falling down her face, dripping off her chin.
The Runners had come back to The MapRoom today, and they put the last few sticks together. That was it. There was no way out. They had mapped the whole thing. Minho, Ben, Jax and Charlie had ran every single inch of the maze. They knew each turn and corner. They knew where each silver plack stamped with World In Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department. They knew when each section would change and when a new section would open. And there was nothing.
They had finally discovered that in section four, there was a place, the same intersection that kept Charlie wondering, the back wall wasn't actually a back wall. There was a section that was similar to a hulligram. It looked like the wall, but there was no wall. If you say at the edge, with your legs dangling over it just stretched out and down. There was nothing but a void.
It was like the end of the world. It just stopped. There was nothing. They tried throwing rocks and they just fell. The four of them were out of ideas. They told their leaders; Alby and Newt, and made the decision to not tell anyone. There was no way out of the Maze.
So tonight, after Gally forced her to eat something and shower she sat, staring forlorn at the wall. Refusing to talk. She was lost.
Gally cupped her face with his rough callased hands and forced her to look at him. Searching desperately for anything.
"You're scaring me Charlie! Please...say something."
"There's...no way out." She whispered dully.
Her eyes wouldn't focus on him, they just looked past him. His heart rate picked up and he felt the overwhelming pressure of being trapped, again. Just like his memories . Being trapped, caged, stuck in tubes of water... No way out?
He took a shuddering breath, and shoved everything back down, back down into the stone box he kept his emotions in. He raised up and pulled her head down and kissed her forehead.
"We'll figure it out." He whispered.
She didn't say anything, she hardly acknowledged him.
"...there's no way out..." She whispered.

Charlie
Today was my day off and of course it was Greenie Day. My least favorite day of each month. Today was no different. Today was just another day, another horrible day stuck in the stone walls. The nausea had settled in the last few days, it was only now only in the mornings and evenings.
It was the exhaustion now that was settling in. Yesterday we ran at a lazy pace and at lunch I laid my head back in the wall and fallen asleep. Ben had to wake me up before Minho found out.
They all sat at the Cliff, as Minho had dubbed it. Throwing rocks off the cliff. Charlie laid her head on Ben's shoulder and again fell asleep. He nudged me awake just before we left. I was thankful he let me sleep.
Now as the siren blared jerking me awake, I saw the crowd of boys gathering and screaming, making bets and laughing.
I frowned, tears stung my eyes again. The creators keep spitting out boys. And like moved on. I hate it. I hate watching the scared boys come up kicking, swinging, crying, screaming. The crowd of boys laughing and making fun. How could this be a life? How could this be a home. She lowered her head looking at her flat stomach, tears burnt. This place was no place for a baby...or her. Or any of these boys. This was a horrible awful living hell.
The clanging of the cage sounded. The excited noise of the boys stopped. Gally and Newt pulled the doors open. With a sigh she got up and grabbed her note book and trudged over.
"Where's the Greenie?"
"Ain't we be getting a Greenie today?"
"Aww scared little puppy."
"Haha he'll be a slopper for sure!"
"Slim it!" Alby yelled over the comments.
He sighed and ran a hand down his face. And peered inside. There was no noise. This was the first time there wasn't a noise. Usually the boys were yelling and screaming, cursing or crying.
I worked my way to the front and peered inside.
"You guys don't see the Greenie?" I asked looking back up to Newt, Alby and Gally.
They all shook their heads. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Shucken boys." I muttered. I dropped my stuff and taking a deep breath I hopped down into the Box, to the protests of the guys.
"Charlie! Shuck sakes! You'll be the death of me, woman!" Gally muttered.
I ignored them and turned towards the boy.
