Doe Eyes and Pout
Jungkook's POV-
My last thoughts before I lose consciousness are muddled with haze and confusion as I slip under the water's surface.
This isn't how my life is supposed to end.
I came to Seoul to have a new beginning. To overcome my fears and let go of my pain.
To fully embrace who I am, enjoying life with Tae and Jimin along with everyone else I've come to befriend and love.
Love... My love.
My heart clenches as memories of us flash through my mind.
He's going to think I broke my promise.
He's going to think he was right to not believe me. That he was right to have doubts. That another person left him alone.
I hope he knows I didn't mean to leave. That I didn't plan for this. That I love him with every ounce of my being.
I pray somehow he finds the truth.
This isn't how my life is supposed to end...
*Three Months Earlier*
"I'm coming down right now!" I call loudly enough to reach where I am certain my mother is stood at the bottom of the stairs.
I bend down to pick up the last of my things that have been stuffed in my large duffel bag.
It turns out to be much heavier than it looks, causing me to groan as I heave the strap over my shoulder.
When I am able to stand up straight I take one last look around the room, checking to see if I missed anything of importance.
I take in a sharp breath as my eyes land on the mostly empty closet as well as the top of my wooden desk that hasn't been cleared of clutter for years.
I really am going to miss this place.
I was born and raised here in Busan, in this house. This is the only home I've ever known.
It's strange to think that tomorrow I'm not going to be waking up here in my bed. That instead I'll be somewhere hours away that is completely foreign to me.
Every time I think about it my heart rate picks up. I'd never admit it out loud, but I'm honestly quite terrified to be moving away for school.
I had the option to stay in Busan but despite my mother's initial reluctance to the idea, I convinced her to let me apply to the University in Seoul.
My acceptance was a long shot, but I wanted to take a chance and at least apply. It was a shock to both of us when the letter came, informing me of my acceptance.
I was able to work for the scholarships I wanted and did numerous odd jobs in order to save the money to pay for my dorm up front plus extra to set aside to tie me over until I can get a part-time job.
I wonder how long it will take me to find a job. If it does take too long, will I be able to stretch my savings until I do find something?
I really should have lined something up before I moved. Why didn't I do that. What was I thinking?!
I've never even stayed out of town for more than a week. Now I'm going to move to a city hours away to live in for months? Maybe even years?
Fuck, maybe I'm not ready for this...
As my mind starts to work faster and faster, filling with doubts and questions, I'm pulled out of my spiraling when I hear the yelling from downstairs again.
"Jeon Jungkook! Jimin has been nice enough to offer to drive with you to Seoul and you are behaving like he isn't doing you a very kind favor! You knew what time he'd be here, the very least you could have done was be awake and ready to go when he arrived."
I take a deep breath as I adjust the strap on my
shoulder.
There's no going back now. I have to do this. I need to do this. I'm sure it'll be fine. Tae and Jimin will be with me and we'll be there to support each other. With them by my side I shouldn't be worried. I just need to stay positive.
"Positive thoughts. Positive thoughts." I repeat to myself in attempt to calm my racing thoughts as I close my bedroom door behind me and make my way down the hall towards the stairs.
I'm surprised when the foot of the stairs comes into view and I don't see my mother glaring up at me. Instead I hear her laughing at whatever ass kissing remark I'm sure Jimin has said from another room.
It's a struggle to try to make it down the narrow stairway with the heavy bag but somehow manage to stay on my feet, making it to the bottom without falling on my ass or my face.
Once at the bottom of the stairs, just as I'm about to slip the strap off my shoulder I hear Jimin's voice.
"It's really not any trouble at all Mrs Jeon. I know our Jungkookie very well and I figured he would most likely be running behind so I've accounted for a late start."
Kiss ass. I think to myself, rolling my eyes before I lower my bag to the floor.
As I make my way through the entryway into the living room I listen as my mother continues to apologize for my disregard of his time along with exaggerated "Bless you Jiminie."
Just as she is praising him for staying my friend for as long as he has, I walk into the living room.
"As long as we get on the road before ten we will be able to pick up Tae and make it to the city before the sun sets." Jimin giggles.
My mother is standing with her back to me while Jimin is in front of her. As soon as she sees him look past her to where I am stood, she turns on her heal with her all too familiar scowl consisting of narrowed eyes and pursed lips.
"You've left your mother with hardly any time for a proper goodbye, not to mention poor Jimin has been so anxious. He's been pacing the room waiting for you, Bunny. I'm surprised my carpet hasn't been worn down from his steps!"
I purse my lips as I glance over her shoulder at Jimin who gives me a short shake of his head, confirming that the detail my mother has added to her story which I was already suspicious of, was in fact untrue.
I move my eyes back to my mother, quickly running them over her expression before bringing them to meet hers.
She's not mad, just annoyed. Annoyed enough to let the feeling distract her from giving us the drawn out goodbye I was originally expecting today.
I can work with this. I think my tried and true Doe Eyes and Pout combo will work to get her calmed down and us out of here without any more lecturing or guilt tripping.
Casting my face down toward the ground (seemingly in remorse but actually getting into character) I take half a step forward while pouting my lips before raising my head to meet her angry glare with glassy eyes.
Seeing her eyes almost immediately soften, I deliver my line.
"I'm sorry Eomma. I-It's just that I found the scrapbook you made for me while I was packing and I couldn't help but open it. I guess I just lost track of time looking at all the memories we've made together..."
During my little speech I had shifted my stare to the floor again, but when it had gone a few moments without a sound I'm about to lift head to look at her to gauge if more sweet words are necessary or if this has done the trick.
Before I even have my head lifted I am pulled into a bone crushing hug, knocking most of the air from my lungs.
"Oh Bunny, I hope you packed that book with you so you can look back at all our adventures we had if ever you feel down," she says before pulling away and cupping my cheeks.
"But remember that I am just a phone call away." She adds before rising up on her tip toes to kiss my cheek.
The moment was cut short when Jimin could be heard clearing his throat behind her. I turned to meet his eyes as he nods his head towards the door, only now showing any signs of anxiousness.
"Well, it seems that the time has come, Eomma. Jimin and I better get on the road if we want to make it to Seoul before dark," I say, turning my attention back to my mother with a gentle smile.
"I love you Bunny. And you as well Jiminie." She says as she takes my hand to drag me closer to where Jimin is stood in order to embrace both of us in a hug.
After a longer than necessary embrace she pulls back and looks at the two of us with adoration before freeing our shoulders from her grasp and stepping aside so we can get to the door.
"Make sure to tell Tae I love him- Actually, just tell him to call me," she says with a sweet smile.
Jimin was the first out, not forgetting to give my mother one last kiss on the cheek before stepping onto the porch on his way to his car.
After I get my bags picked back up I pause as at the door as well, turning to give my mother one last kiss on her other cheek along with a promise to call her when we get to the dorms, before I too make my way to the car.
Once settled in the car with my bag as well as the things we had packed the night before secured in the trunk alongside Jimin's, we get buckled in as we waive goodbye to where my mother was stood on the porch as we pulled away from the curb.
As Jimin starts to drive away I turn forward in my seat, letting out a few deep breaths.
There's no going back now. It's time for a fresh start. Time to leave the past in the past and start a new chapter in Seoul.
