'What about Logan?' Cherry asked.

My eyes strayed to him as he entered the school cafeteria. Cherry and I had turned our lunchtime into choose-a,guy-for-my-bucket-list time.

'I heard he's a good kisser.' She added.

'He also has every kissably transmitted disease there is.' I stated  inwardly shuddered at the thought of kissing Logan Stewart who has kissed the majority of the female population of the school. Scratch that, of the town.

'No. I'd rather have virgin lips for the rest of my live.' I winced remembering one time last year when he'd been dared to kiss Miley. It looked like he was trying to shoved his tongue down her throat. For his sake, I hope his kissing skills have improved.

'Okay, Jason?'

'He's dating Tanya.' I replied.

'Really? Since when?' She asked taking a bite out of her chicken club sandwich.

'I think two days ago.' I bit into my apple. I hate red apples but I love the green ones.

'Figures. It's just for prom.' Cherry rolled her eyes and searched the cafeteria for any other eligible boys.

'Cyprus?' She asked and my gaze landed on the lanky curly haired cowboy-ish teen. He's one of the sweetest guys at our school.

'Nah.'

'Yeah I don't see you and those curls working well together either.' Cherry shrugged just as the footballers burst into the cafeteria.

I know that's what Cherry has been waiting for all along. If she was going to find me an eligible guy, he was most likely going to come from that bunch.

A wide grin spread on her face and I rolled my eyes. Since we are friends with most of the guys on the team, they said hi as they passed by.

Cherry enthusiastically replied while I shrugged and nodded accordingly.

'Justin?' She asked already dissecting the team. They took a table adjacent us, giving us an unhindered view of all their faces. I'm pretty sure they would've heard what we were saying if they weren't making such loud noise themselves.

'Eww. No. He's like a brother to me. Plus he's not bulletproof.' I giggled. Caleb caught my eye and smirked.

'What are you girls laughing about?' He asked. Cherry's eyes twinkled with dreamy delight as he turned his megawatt million dollar billboard smile on her.

Cal is hands down the hottest guy in school with his tall lanky but not skinny frame, deep blue eyes and honey blonde hair but he is also royally taken. He's dating Carla, a nice cheerleader with light blue eyes that look dull next to Caleb's enthralling cerulean ones and a tall, taller than me, perfectly proportioned body.

Cal and I became fast friends in junior year. We hit it off immediately we met. So much so that everyone thought we were dating and most girls hated me for that. It took Cal asking out Sandy in my presence to convince everyone we weren't. Some people still didn't believe it at first. Even Sandy. She was always so suspicious every time we hung out together that I had to eventually stop hanging out with the only boy my father hadn't yet threatened to shoot and actually liked. A little while after we stopped hanging out as much, everyone accepted that we are just friends.

I'll admit we might have actually dated if we weren't so comfortable in our friendship. But dating never actually crossed our minds until people brought it up. And then the thought refused to leave my mind. I obsessed over it day and night which eventually led to a three-month crush on my best friend but now I'm over it.

'So what are you two laughing about?' He repeated his question and a few guys from their table turned to look at us.

'Nothing. Just a book Lily read.' Cherry said just as I was about to say, 'We're trying to decide which one of you will get to kiss me senseless.'

I decided to shut my mouth. Cherry shot me a dark look, no doubt guessing what I'd been about to say.

I gave her a sheepish look and shrugged.

'Your nose is always stuck in a book, Lily.' Cal said and I grinned.

'Do I hassle you about football?' I countered.

'Touche.' He smirked and rolled his eyes, giving me that exasperated look he reserved for only me.

'Catch.' He said and tossed me a bag of doughnuts. I shrieked as quietly as I could and shielded my face from the doughnuts rather than catching them but they landed on the table directly in front of me anyways. Cal chuckled softly. He knows I don't have a single athletic bone in my entire body. I glared at him and rolled my eyes before opening the bag of doughnuts. My eyes lit up at the sight of the chocolate glazed doughnuts. Cal was watching my reaction with ill concealed amusement and fondness. Kind of the way you look at your younger sister who is being cute and silly at the same time. He smiled at me before tuning back into the argument going on at his table about two football teams.

It's our thing. Whenever his mom bakes sweets, he hands them over because I'm addicted to all things sweet. Sour too.

'What was I thinking? Of course no one's gonna measure up. Not with this fatal attraction star crossed lovers thing you have going on with Caleb.'

'Sorry?' I choked on a doughnut. 'Fatal star crossed what?'

She burst out laughing. 'Should've seen the look on your face.'

I sighed in relief. 'Don't joke about things like that.'

'Fine.' She smirked before suddenly turning serious. 'I was serious though. You guys have got this romantic meant-to-be vibe going on.'

'Can we go back to looking for a suitable guy for me to make out with?' I huffed.

We spent the rest of lunch going through and discarding almost all the guys of the football team. Out of over 100 guys we started with, we had only a handful left that hadn't been rejected.

I sighed as after reading a text from Cherry. My handful had just reduced to seven. One of them just asked out Amy, a perky redhead in my chemistry class.

I pocketed my phone and let my head rest against my locker door.

'Lily,' A warm breath tickled my neck.

I jolted in surprise, knocking my head against the locker.

'Ouch!' I cried rubbing my head. 'Don't do that.'

Thankfully I didn't hit myself hard enough to leave a bruise but it was still painful.

'Didn't mean to scare you.' Cal chuckled standing way to close for comfort. I could feel his warm breath on my neck and his minty woodsy scent filled my nostrils making me think of spring.

He towered over me with his six foot four frame when I was barely hitting five foot four. His silky hair had a messy look to it like he ran his hands through it one too many times. A few locks had fallen across his head.

'I guess.' I shrugged and took a much needed step back.

'Did you hit yourself hard?' He asked, once again stepping into my personal space. His long fingers stilled my hand that was rubbing my head. He lowered my hand and pressed his cold fingers to the same spot. My entire body went rigid.

'Relax. It won't bruise.' I could feel his warm minty breath on my head. Why did he have to be so ridiculously tall?

'It's fine.' I slapped his hand away and took another step back. He let his hand fall to his side.

'Why do you look frustrated?' He asked, manoeuvring my books out of my arms and holding them for me.

'I'm not supposed to tell you but... I'm frustrated enough and I need someone to rant to that isn't Cherry.' I replied.

'You can rant on the way to class unless you're suddenly interested in detention.' He said forcing me to start moving.

'Why is it so hard to find one okay guy in this school? I mean I need just one. Is that too much to ask?' I said.

'I don't follow.' He frowned. I proceeded to explain my bucket list to him and how Cherry and I spent lunch searching for the right candidate and how my already pitiful handful acceptable guys was already dwindling.

He listened patiently and only once did he look annoyed and that was when I mentioned the seven guys I was considering.

'I don't think you should do it.' He said calmly when I finished.

'Why the hell not?' I asked. 'Cherry has already ticked four items off her bucket list and I haven't even gotten anywhere with my one single item.'

'I just don't think you should go around kissing just any guy.' He shrugged.

'I won't be kissing just any guy. That's why I'm being picky. It has to be perfect. I don't want to go university without having been kissed before.'

'Why does that bother you?' He asked.

'I don't know. It just does.' I snapped.

'Fine if it bothers you so much, I could kiss you now.' He offered, his midnight blue eyes twinkling with mischief.

'Eww. No. You have a girlfriend.' I replied automatically without even thinking about it even though my stomach gave a funny lurch that I used to get back when I still had a crush on him.

It had to be the doughnuts. I had way too many.

'Fine.' He huffed. 'Go find some perfect guy to kiss you.'

I frowned. If I didn't know better, I'd say he sounded angry. He was even clenching his fists and that muscle along his jaw that always ticks when he's mad was currently throbbing. But I did know better.

'You're acting like you're mad and you have no reason to be mad at me for this.' I stated.

'Of course, I do. You're my friend and it's my job to tell you when you're making a huge mistake.'

'I'm not making a mistake and even if I am, it's my mistake to make.' I shrugged.

He stopped walking so I stopped too. He used one hand to turn me to face him.

'Why do you think you haven't kissed any guys before?' He asked, his intense blue eyes drilling into mine.

'Because of my dad.' I rolled my eyes. 'You're taking this way too seriously. It's just one silly kiss.'

'Are you sure this is what you want?' He asked, his tone serious.

'Yeah.' I replied.

'Then I support you.' He started walking again and I followed.

'I didn't ask for your support but how kind of you to offer.' I murmured sarcastically.

He chuckled and pinched the bridge of my nose.

I slapped his hand away and glared at him. He leaned in and I stiffened.

'What?' I snapped.

'You might want to reduce your number of acceptable guys to six. Harper's gay.' He smirked.

'You have got to be kidding me!'
