Guide To Writer's Block
Your struggling to make out the next picture in the plot in your mind, the cursor is blinking on a blank page, or you can't get the right words out.
You have Writer's Block.
Never fear, because this is... *drumroll*
A GUIDE TO GETTING RID OF WRITER'S BLOCK!!!
These are some tips and activities you can use to get rid of this horrible illness that puts a brick wall in your mind.
First,
EVALUATE!
Why do you have Writer's block?
Are you scared of failing at ploting? Do you think your writing is horrible?
Take some advice from me:
We all have first drafts that are as bad as One Direction's singing. And faces. And obsessive fangirls. (Not the point).
Heck, I'm on my third draft of We Are The Knights, and it still sounds like absolute cow poop.
That's just creative process.
"There are no great writers, only great rewriters"
-Some Guy I Forgot And Am Too Lazy To Look Up On Google
It's true. Your not going to pop out a great story the first time and be a new JK Rowling or Rick Riordan. Even Stephanie Meyer, as bad as her work is, had to go through all this to even get a readable copy of Twilight (not that it's that readable anyway).
I hate to read the first draft of Twilight. *shudders*
ANYWAY!
Take a chill pill, and ease up on the grip of the keyboard (we all know your holding it too tightly). It's a first DRAFT.
More advice:
WRITE. This may sounds stupid.
"Kat, if I have writer's block how am I suppose to writer?" The answer is simple.
Write short little drabble. About a girl lost in the forest, finding out she's actually an alien, getting hit by a car.
Anything, just keep writing.
Whatever you do, don't write fanfiction while you have writer's block. It won't help in the lease bit. If you have a writer's block ON a fanfiction, I have nothing to say except follow some of the tips below.
READ. There are two cases for this.
Fiction: Read books that are in the same genre or have a common topic as your story.
Fanfiction: Reread the books your writing the fanfiction about, or rewatch the show.
Note: DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT read Wattpad books for this. There are plenty good writers on here, yes, but you need to read published books.
After all, they are what prompted you to write, correct?
GET CREATIVE. Take a break and turn your focus on something else in the creative department. Draw, paint, listen to motivating music, make a dance to your favorite song, just do something and keep these creative juices flowing.
I know that listening to music helps me link.
Plus it's a proven fact that singing releases edorphins.
Yes, singing is creative.
REREAD. Go back and read your work. Sometimes you find a little kink or plot hole that you can use.
CHARACTERS: Having trouble with them? Can't develop them correctly? Or do they always seem to come out the same? Write them a background. If you have an Apple product, I suggest the app A Novel Idea. Its amazing.
Imagine them a couple years ago, or in the future.
Write an email, letter, or diary entry in their point of veiw.
Hope it helped. Comment any question you have!
