"Oh Jungkook-ah. What brings you here?" The doctor asked his step brother while closing his laptop. He had a smile on his face which could make any girl swoon over him like never before. He should've been an idol or a model. What a waste of a handsome face. That's what people think when they see him in a white coat.
Dr Kim Seokjin
"Now you listen! Waah! I've been talking for that past five minutes and you ignored me!"
Dr Song huffed in annoyance and kept the gold chain on the table. She walked near the big window to calm herself. Jungkook's eyes landed on the gold object. He picked it up and observed it closely. "This..." caressing the pendant with his thumb he remembered the times he'd seen it before. He raised his head to look at the female doctor.
"Noona. Where did you get this?"
"Why?" She walked to him. "Have you seen it before?" She curiously raised her brows. He nodded.
"What is it about?" Jin asked while leaning back in his chair. He narrowed his eyes at the duo waiting for some explanation. Suddenly Taehyung's message crossed his mind. Jungkook has feelings for someone. He's been seeing her from afar. I don't want him to hurt Hyung. Please do something. Taehyung never showed it but he cared for the younger more than anything.
Dr Song stayed quiet. She bit her lips as the brothers looked expectantly at her. Finally she sighed and told them the story.
"This girl was pregnant and her parents-"
"Pregnant?" Jungkook's eyes widened in surprise. He looked away to calm his fast beating hear. She is pregnant? The shock and disappointed was evident on his face. He was lost in his thoughts oblivious to the fact that Jin and Dr Song were noticing his movements and expressions.
"Then?"
"Her parents forced her for an abortion but her boyfriend came on time. They had a big fight and then the parents left. That girl was admitted for the night. Her blood pressure dropped suddenly. They couldn't pay the bill so she gave this chain as a collateral for the time being."
"Did she want it?" His voice seemed broken to Jin. Of course he would know. He'd known him for a long time. He observed his movements. The occasional gulps to fight back his innermost emotions and clenching his fists in anger was all noticed by Jin.
Dr Song sighed before replying, "Abortion? No. Baby? Yes." Then her phone buzzed with a message. "I'll leave for now." She looked at Jin, "we'll talk about this later." She moved forward to take the gold chain back but Jungkook pulled away. "Jungkook?" Dr Song called for him.
"I'll pay the bills."
"What?"
"I'll pay the bill." He turned to his brother, "hyung, let her know that she can come to the hospital for her check ups and everything and tell her that the medicines are free." He looked determined. Jin could easily see his frustration masked with that determination. Jungkook was annoyed, frustrated and furious. That loser can't even pay for a simple treatment! How can he take care of her and the baby?!
"No Jungkook. We can't do that! These things are not easy. We have to follow the procedure. We need permission-"
Dr Song raised her voice. The continues buzzing of the phone didn't help her in the situation. She turned to Jin who raised his palm to attract their attention.
"Okay Jungkook. I'll cover her bills and medications. Dr Song, you'll be responsible for her. But..." the duo looked at him with anticipation, ".. what will I get in return?" He folded his arms. He needed to know the extent to which he was ready to go for that girl. So that he could help him if at all needed.
"I'm leaving for now." Dr Song huffed and left the room, pausing her steps to remind Jungkook to take care of the gold chain because it meant a lot to Meera.
"So..what will you do for me?" Jin asked again to remind him. He leaned back in his chair with a smirk on his face.
"What do you want me to do?" Jungkook was annoyed. He wanted to get over withit. "Not my computer if that's what you're thinking." He added.
Jin smiled in victory. "I'll think about it later." Jungkook nodded without thinking about the consequences. He should've known that his cousin is smarter than anyone.
It could cost him his everything.

"I'm sorry Meera. It's your parents' orders."
Meera could only look at the house with tears in her eyes. She wanted to see her parents the moment she stepped out of the hospital. She wanted to talk to them hoping that they would listen to her. Daniel stood by her side. He held her shoulder and pulled her closer when she started crying. His thumb grazed her shoulder in a comforting manner. The guard looked at the girl with sympathy. He went to the small guardroom and brought two bags with him. It had all the belongings of Meera.
"MUMMA! PAPA! Please talk to me! Please. I beg you!"
Mr Suri covered his face as he cried uncontrollably. His precious daughter's screams hit his ear like anything. He closed the laptop shut and rested his head on the table. While Mrs Suri cried in her bedroom. The screams were clear to her because of an open window. She wanted to stand up and look at her princess but then she reminded herself of what she did. She chose someone else over them. They had to be strong for each other. The maids couldn't do anything. They stayed in the kitchen with troubled minds. Dasom ended up crying as Bora hugged her. It was heartbreaking for them as well.
"Just this once! P-please.."
Meera ended up on her knees while sobbing loudly. Daniel picked her up and supported her. The guard went inside his room. After a minute he came out with something in his hand. He gave a thick envelope to Daniel who looked at him with confusion. "Please take care of her." Daniel realised that it was a lot of money in that envelope. He was about to refuse before the guard shook his head. "I'm not going to lie and say that she is like a daughter to me. But I want to be honest and tell you that I owe her a lot. It's the least I could do for her." He smiled in the end.
Daniel smiled in return. He hugged Meera to stop her from crying. When she calmed down, they walked to the main road and took a taxi to his place. He suggested her to take a warm shower. While she was showering he informed Mrs Jung that he would be late. And then he received a call from an unknown number. He picked it up.
"Is this Kang Daniel?"
"Yes. Who is this?" Daniel furrowed his eyebrows and looked at the bathroom door making sure that she is still inside.
"I'm Dr Song. I wanted to let you know that Miss Meera could come here for her check ups and medication for pregnancy. You don't have to worry about the fees. Everything is free."
"Really?"
Daniel couldn't believe it. He was doubting their intentions as to why they are suddenly offering them with free medication when in the morning they couldn't even give them some time for the payment.
"Yes. You can come tomorrow for the details and her first check up."
"Wait a minute. Why are we given this special treatment?" He asked bluntly.
"Mr Kang, big companies and hospitals have a special funds for people who could not afford their services. It's a part of their social responsibility. We too have a special provision."
"Okay but why us? There are many people who are in need for good medical facilities." He heard a deep sigh on the other side.
"I told you in the morning right? If you want to avail yourself of this opportunity you can come here and fill out the forms."
"Okay." Daniel hung up. He rubbed his temples while recalling Dr Song's words from this morning.
Last night when I checked Meera I found that she is weak. Her body is not ready to be a mother. If you can talk to her to abort the baby it would be better. But I don't think she'll do that. It might be difficult for her to bear that baby if she doesn't get any professional treatment.
"What's wrong?"
Meera kept her towel near the window and went to Daniel. She weakly wrapped her arms around him. He hugged her back with a sweet smile. He leaned forward and pecked her forehead. "I thought that you didn't want this baby?" He made sure that his words won't hurt her feelings. Meera's eyes changed hearing his question. It was true that she didn't want it but now it was different.
"I want this baby. We made this baby with love. It's a blessing."
Daniel smiled but inside he was confused. The doctor's words played in his mind over and over again. Her health was on the line. He gave her a tight hug to reassure her and himself that it would be alright. Everything was okay.
"I'll make breakfast for us." Meera pulled away from the hug. She wanted to be alone and cry her heart out. The only way is to send Daniel to work. She opened the fridge and saw beers. Daniel bit his lower lip. There was no food. Luckily she found ramen and quickly made it for him. By the time he was ready after taking a shower the noodles were ready.
"We can go for grocery shopping in the evening. And don't do all the work. I know that you're planning to clean this place and adjust your belongings here. So don't do that." He playfully scolded her before leaving. He was trying to cheer her up. She smiled in return and nodded. "A little work won't hurt." She replied.
"And the most important thing. Don't open the door for anyone. If anything happens just call me. No matter how small it is. Call me. It's an order. Okay?" He tapped her nose. He was scared thinking about the loan sharks meeting her behind him. It terrified him.
"Okay okay. Now go. You'll be late. And give my greetings to everyone."
.
.
.
"Here take this. It's good for pregnant women." Mrs Jung packed a lot of food for Meera. The lady was worried about her when Daniel told them everything. Yuta offered to take up his share of the work if at all Daniel needs it. Mr Jung decided to look for a better place for them.
"Thank you so much. It really m-means a lot." Daniel broke down in front of them. He couldn't cry in front her so that she could rely on him without a worry. He was worried beyond anyone's imagination. He was keeping it all inside but now seeing people help him made him happy. Yuta hugged him from the side. "Bro. We're here for you."
After sharing his thoughts and feelings, he felt at ease. With a strong mind he went back to his home where his love was waiting for him. He knocked on the door. "Meera. It's me." The door opened and the sight made his heart drop low. Meera's condition didn't look good. She had puffy and swollen eyes and cheeks. "Hey. Welcome back." Her voice seemed to be cheerful but it was all a pretend. Daniel immediately hugged her. He caressed the back of her head.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry." He kept whispering these words.
"Daniel. You don't have to apologise. You've done nothing wrong. It's my decision to keep this baby and I'm more than thankful for your support. It can be a lot for us to take in but we're here for each other and that's all I need now." She raised herself on her toes and kissed his cheek. Daniel cupped her cheeks and planted a sweet affectionate kiss on her lips. His embrace was tight as he made sure to make herself feel safe in his arms.
"I want this baby too." He said which put her at ease. She was a bit worried because she didn't consult with Daniel about it.
"What's this?" Meera pointed at the bags that he carried. He pulled her inside and showed her all the food. "I told them about your pregnancy." He then looked explained everything to her about how they'll be going to the hospital for the check up and about others helping them. He purposely left out his conversation with Dr Song about her health. He didn't have enough courage to tell her. So he planned to ask the doctor to that for him.
"We can go grocery shopping after your check up."
They cleaned the plates together and got comfortable on the mattress. "I need to buy a bed now." He said and pulled her closer to his body. "Are you okay?" He asked sensing her quiet self.
"I'm thinking about my parents. I am such a bad daughter. I won't be able to forgive myself for betraying them. I can't forget their crying and disappointed faces from my mind. I don't think that I can be strong." She burried her face in his chest. Daniel didn't know what to say to her. He knew that she was really close to her parents and now being away from them wasn't something that she could get used to.
"You are strong Meera. More than you think," Daniel caressed her hair soothingly before continuing, "you took a decision for your baby. You went against the people you love the most and it's not easy. One needs to be mentally and emotionally strong for what you did. And I'm proud of you."
She wrapped her arms around and with a smile on her face she closed her eyes to sleep but then suddenly she sat straight taking Daniel by surprise. "What happened?" He grew worried thinking that she wasn't feeling physically good or something.
"I didn't tell Jaehwan!"
