And that was it. The day the world's light died. It caused turmoil worldwide. A star - someone with such a bright future - had fallen. No one was ever the same. He was a lot more important than most people gave him credit for, and they saw that now.

"DAMMIT!" Lui shouted, punching a nearby wall, his phone falling to the floor. Whether he was angry or upset, nobody really knew. They just knew it wasn't the best time to approach him.

"Hey, Lui, calm down." Xander was the only person who dared to approach him in this state and he tried to calm the dragon blader down. "You couldn't have done anything."

"Shut up, Xander." There were tears in his eyes, which took Xander by surprise. This was the last thing he expected. "He was right there. I had him in my grasp and I let him go. I could have saved the wonder boy."

"Lui..." Xander murmured, not quite sure what to say.

"This is all my fault." Lui cried, carrying the burden of the wonder boy's death on his shoulders, not letting anyone carry the burden with him. It lay with him and him alone. Or at least, that's what he believed.

"You couldn't have done anything, Lui. Valt would still be dead, even if you had caught him. You heard him." Xander told him, forcing Lui to face the brutal truth.

"What are you saying?" Lui glared at Xander

"Where there is death there will always be death," Shu said, appearing next to Xander. "If you had saved Valt, another life would have been sacrificed."

"And? Who cares?" Lui shrugged, not caring about the specifics.

"What if it had been you? Or me? Or Gabe? Then what?" Shu watched his reaction, which was just a defeated look. "A life had to be sacrificed, and it just so happened to be Valt's. We all wish that it could have been changed - it was the wonder boy, for crying out loud. But... something tells me that he didn't purely do this because he was depressed and couldn't go on."

"What makes you say that?" Xander asked, and Shu pulled out a note that he had found tucked in Valt's phone case. He passed it to Lui.

"Our wonder boy is smarter than we give him credit for." Shu walked off, waving at them. Lui opened the note, confused, and in Valt's handwriting was a note. Lui read it aloud.

'To whoever finds this,

I know I don't have much time left, and that I am reaching my rope's end. So, naturally, that means I have to do something spectacular. I am the wonder boy, and, well, that's my job. As you know, I'm the one who defeated the snakepit and stopped Red Eye, bringing Shu Kurenai back into the world. Well, now I'm a part of it. Call me Hazel Eye. Theodore's after BC Sol, and it's my job to stop him before I leave.' A bunch of it is scribbled out, and underneath, more is written in a different colour. 'I managed to beat him, the wonder boy strikes again, but he did a lot more damage than I thought he would. I can't keep doing this. I wish I could. I'm sorry it had to end this way. I wanted to live, I swear. I leave a gift to everyone in a place only we know.

"A place only we know?" Xander and Lui shared a confused glance. Lui made his way to his training room, and Xander headed back to the dojo to find the secret room they would always hang out in.

For Lui, he had left Valtryek. How he had gotten his bey there, Lui had no clue, but she was there, in all her glory. With her was a note that read 'Get stronger on my behalf.'

For Xander, he left the sword Xcalius. How he had gotten his hands on the sword was a wonder, but it was Valt, so anything was possible. On his note read 'Protect them all for me.'

God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers, and sometimes the darkness wins.
