Can't Die Yet
Within seconds of seeing the Techno-Drome sinking into the angry depths of the ocean the rest of us started wailing and screaming in pain. I could only join them, wondering where my adopted family had went.
Donnie's head slumped down, making his shoulders more prominent. Raph had quieted down to whining mutters. April, Melanie, Mikey and I were the last few to watch the waves, wondering when we'll be able to get to shore. I knew none of us would have the energy to swim back with the knowledge that two of us were left in that terror dome.
"Hey!" Mikey suddenly jumped up. I looked up and saw something brown-green in the sun setting light. At first I couldn't tell what it was. But I couldn't ask Mikey before he jumped off the side of the pod and into the ocean.
"Mikey!" I wailed, gripping the edges as I saw his head pop up at the surface. I breathed out in relief but was short lived as he began to swim toward the object. "Mikey, wait!" I shouted. Raising a leg, I set a foot on the edge of the pod. Pushing on the pod and toward the water I made sure to take a deep breath before I hit the waves.
Being in the water was a bit different; made me feel a bit lighter and a bit sea-sick. But I quickly swam over to where Mikey was, ignoring my sickness for the moment, and saw Mikey was trying to take a sea weed-looking thing from... Leo! I almost stopped swimming from the sight of him, but I quickly came over to help to see if he needed any help. As I come up to help, I noticed the sea-weed object was Julie. She seemed to be bleeding from the red leaking around us in the ocean. Mikey was struggling with her so I came up to help them.
Back at the pod, Melanie and Donnie was at the edge of the pod, ready to haul the soaking wet Julie onto the pod. I kicked out with my feet hard to push Julie up. Mikey and Leo got the memo but got it a few seconds late. We all grunted with the weight of Julie on our arms and backs.
"All right..." Leo muttered. "All together... One... Two... Three!" he shouted, pushing Julie up toward the pod. Mikey and I followed suit while Melanie and Donnie, now joined by Raph, joined in. Within a few seconds Julie's limp form was in the pod with the three turtles at the foot of the pod swimming. Leo came up toward the bottom of the pod and began to push it toward the shore of the city. I looked at Mikey while he looked at me. I knew Donnie was checking over Julie, but she needed immediate help with stuff at the lair. So him and I joined Leo with pushing the pod back to shore.
About a half hour of swimming, Leo, Mikey and I were getting exhausted. I was panting and that's when I heard Melanie, rather close, say, "I'll switch out with one of you."
"I'm fine," Leo grumbled, shoulders straining.
Mikey's blue eyes looked up at the rather young turtle with a smile, "I'll switch ya."
Melanie nodded and hopped out of the pod the same way I had. It sent the pod a few inches away from all of us, but we all soon caught up. Once Mikey reached the pod, he hopped in and breathed out. "Raph, Mikito may need to switch out..."
"Does she?" he asked, his voice sounding rather surprised. Within seconds of hearing his voice, I saw his red and torn-up bandana tails in my sight from pushing the pod still. I blinked in shock and looked up at him. He smirked, his arm on the edge of the pod with his weight on it, "Need help, Mikito?"
"I-I'll be fine for now..." I huffed, kicking with my legs.
An uncertain hum came from Raph. I didn't look at him again, but I could feel the pod move a bit. A few seconds after the pod yanked away from my grip again and a splash was heard. The three of us pushing the pod turned our attention to the dark green head popping up above the waves. Raph was turned away from us at first but his attention turned to us as soon as he recovered from his rise. "All right," he growled at me. "Get up there."
I couldn't argue, so I grabbed the edge of the pod and pushed myself up on it. I plopped on the floor of the pod with an exhausted sigh on my shell, looking up. April looked down at me, smiling softly. "Doing okay?"
"Yeah," I managed out, sitting up slowly as I looked around. When I saw Donnie leaning over Julie, I almost forgot that she was hurt. When the thought clicked in my head again, I scrambled up to my knees and came over to the two. "Is she okay?"
Donnie's attention didn't look away from his gaze on the green now puff ball, "She got a shot in her lower arm. But she'll manage better once I get to the lab and check her over completely. Just passed out from pain or exhaustion from swimming. Either way, I gotta watch her pulse and breathing."
Relief flooded over me when he said she was going to be fine. I looked over the newest addition to our family, wondering what she would do when she actually woke up from the shock and pain. I guess I would find out later. But remembering sisters, I wondered how Sophie and Naomi were doing. I hoped they were safe as well. I couldn't do much now, so, until then, I just relaxed against the side of the pod.
Apparently I had dozed off because I soon woke up with someone shaking me, calling my name. I opened my eyes and looked at who was shaking me: April. I smiled sleepily and rubbed my eyes. Without waiting to explain myself, April spoke for me, "Leo and the others helped Donnie carry Julie to the lair. They told me to wake you up as soon as they were leaving since we'll be trailing them to make sure they won't be followed."
"All right," I yawned, getting up slowly. I looked at where we were at. A dock that had the pod tied to. How was it tied? Mikey had cut a piece of the glass like in those spy movies out and a rope was tied between the piece and to one of the tie-offs from the dock. "Let's go, shall we?"
April nodded and we took our leave. We walked in silence to make sure we heard anything out of the usual that would convince us that the others were followed. An occasional scream was heard, but most of it was silence at the moment. Mostly from the shock of what could have happened, I guessed. It was a serious manner, though. Kraang almost took over the world.
Soon after turning down an alley, we went down to the sewer system, heading home faster than we were on foot. When we reached the lair everyone looked at us from the main room. I smiled and came up to join them. Naomi and Sophie came up to hug me tightly, Sophie shaking. She must have heard the news about Leo almost drowning I assumed. They pulled back and they both smiled but Sophie on the verge of tears.
Naomi took one look at her and wiped at her eyes, "Oh stop it... We're all safe."
"I know... But... There could have been a lot of change," she laughed weakly. Sophie pulled away from Naomi and took her mask off, rubbing at her eyes with the top of her wrist. "I'm glad I didn't witness it, though... The crashing... Or anything similar. I may have broken down right there emotionally."
"We've all been through that," Naomi chuckled, patting her on the shell. "But we're all fine and alive now. Even Julie's awake, ready to heal and celebrate with the rest of us."
"Celebrate?" I heard Mikey's voice come from the kitchen. He suddenly appeared with a massive grin on his face. "Did someone say party?"
We all paused for a moment as Donnie and Splinter came in from the lab. Behind them, Julie was standing, shaky but well, and with her arm in a sling. Her squirrel tailed wagged a little as we all saw her. "I'm ready to party," she managed out, looking between Donnie and Splinter. She pushed passed them and made her way up to us.
"Awesome!" Melanie exclaimed, already darting to the dojo. A low chuckle came from Naomi as she followed her daughter. Raph watched the two go before getting up and following. Mikey came up to me then and grabbed my wrist, dragging me to the dojo with. I laughed loudly as I was half dragged to the room. When we entered, I saw Melanie put a needle on one of the old record player machines. Music lit up the room.
I smiled at Mikey and he smiled at me. I was glad I was alive and knew I could be there with everyone. I hugged my orange-masked boy friend, letting him know my feelings. He hugged me back, letting us pause in our embrace. A few seconds into the hug and Naomi came up, spraying silly string on us from the can. I screamed in shock and Mikey jumped back three feet. A cackling laugh came from my sister as she darted away, silly stringing everyone with the help of Melanie and Julie. Splinter was covered in the string, his ears down.
I laughed and grabbed my own can, hopping into the fray. We laughed, danced, sang, and did a lot of fun activities for the rest of the night.
But fun doesn't last forever.
