I tightened my hold on Vikram. I know it was of no use but I have to stop Vikram from reacting violently from what Markus just said.

But I had to do nothing like that, Vikram was staring at Markus aimlessly while latter was sobbing uncontrollably.

We walked towards Markus and sat next to him. I pulled away from Vikram and sat next to Markus. Even though we were not at all close and didn't even know each other properly, I saw a broken man in front of me. I held him close and told him to put his head on my lap.

He blinked for a few seconds and complied.

Now in front of me, there was a broken man not a confident and handsome business man. I started brushing his hairs softly with my fingers.

"Tell us what happened Markus?"

"Lucas, my brother was always jealous of you. You had Mita and I don't know why but he always had feelings for that bitch. Mita used to hangout with with him, let him feel special then leave him abruptly. She convinced him that she was in relationship with you against her will. She used to play victim"

Vikram's eyebrows were raised. That sounded too much like Mita.

"Lucas used to tell me everything. I tried to tell him that she must be lying, she had to be. You were our friend, our brother but her claws were too deep into him. Even Raj was confused about this whole thing as I was"

He gulped for a few seconds then continued.

"When you broke up with her and began dating Megan, I thought everything would be alright now. Lucas would be with Mita, like he always wanted and he did. But that bitch Mita started talking about how you ruined her life, you forced yourself on her and beat her"

I took in a large breath. I looked at my side and Vikram looked appalled. I continued stroking his head.

"I heard her talking about you. I intervened because I knew you could never do something like that. That's when my fights with Lucas started. I wanted to tell you and Raj but I didn't think it would get more than that"

He got from my lap and looked at Vikram intently.

"She started filling words into his mouth, riling him up against you. I tried to intervene but to no avail. I thought it was just harmless jealousy but it all changed when I heard Mita shouting at him about not even doing it properly, I listened more closely then I came to know that they were talking about your accident. Lucas purposely sabotaged your car"

Markus started sobbing. Tears were continuously pouring out of his eyes. 

"I asked them about it. Mita refused her participation and blamed it all on Lucas. My brother was so into that girl that he agreed with it to keep her safe. My brother was under her spell. He needed psychiatric help. Mita played mind games with him to a extent that he started to behave like her slave. I couldn't tell you, you were so into Megan that I knew you would blame Lucas and I knew he would take the blame to save Mita"

"The night that Megan died, I lost Lucas. He died in the same fire. Vikram he was there to kill you, that reunion was organised just lure you into the trap. I got a letter the day after that accident"

he got up and retrieved a letter from his safe. It was a messy handwriting.

'Brother, today I am doing to do what me and my love were planning to do all these days. This was all we talked about. I will be leaving you forever for the greater agenda. My love will follow me soon after. Please take care of everyone. Hopefully you understand why I am doing it. Love, Lucas'

"Lucas was the one who started the fire. He was there to kill you. To sacrifice himself. By some miracle you were saved but Megan was not that lucky"

Vikram got up and my eyes followed him. He took that bottle of whiskey and connected it with his mouth. He drank it till he hit the bottom and closed his eyes. I looked at Markus and urged him to continue with his story.

"I knew who 'his love' was, I was so angry at her that I went to talk to her about it the next day. The mistake that I made was go there drunk. I entered her house and started to accuse her of things. Then out of nowhere something hit my head and everything went black. I woke up to screams. Mita was screaming at top of her voice, then I realised I was on her. Her clothes were torn and there were marks all over her. Her neighbours came there and pulled me off her. It was all so sudden that I couldn't do anything about it. I had no idea how it happened. Her father in front of her neighbours, the witnesses threatened to call the cops, I knew nobody would believe me. So I pleaded, her father told everyone to go out, he came near me and said, if I uttered anything about that murder to any one then he would leak the images of me on his daughter to police. I was so scared that I ran. That is what Mita has on me. Those photos."

He sat back on the floor. 

I never thought this thing would be so twisted.

And her father I never thought she could do something like this.

"She did all this just out of jealousy?" I asked them

"No with her father's involvement I think it something more. Markus why didn't you tell this to me before?" Vikram asked, his voice ragged.

"I was so scared. Those photos could ruin my life. My parents had just lost their one son, they would have died if I had gone to the jail" 

"We need to do something about it" I said making a point.

"I have a plan. Don't worry Markus, I will get you out of this mess" Vikram said affirmatively.

Just then my phone rang. It was Deepti. 

Why was she calling so late?

I picked up the call to hear sobbing noise,"Lila, you need to come here soon. Daddy is murdered" 

The phone fell off my hand.
