A lil' idea I got from the fabulous Boring_Rhino

"You're not coming inside?" He gave out a sigh, a ghost of a smile appearing on his face.

"No. Not tonight."

"She'll get annoyed if you keep doing this."

"She or you?" The words shocked them both. He frowned slightly as he saw her expression, but he continued to gaze. "I'm just doing my job."

"You have too many jobs." The boy chuckled.

"I have a lot of people to satisfy, Mars." Still smiling, he took out his notepad, flicking through until he reached the next blank page. Mars glanced at the paper as a streak was drawn in the top left-hand corner.

"I don't get it."

"Why, of course." He made a few more markings before putting the notepad away. The girl looked highly offended. "Look, I'll spend the night outside or stay with someone else tonight-"

"So, you're not coming inside at all?" He shook his head. Mars did the same. "You and your advanced technology."

"I love that kinda stuff, sis." He let out a laugh. She cut through.

"But what if it gets too far? What if it destroys-"

"Ssh." She rolled her fiery eyes as he placed a finger to her lips.

That was so typical of her brother- always changing the subject when things got messy. Always spreading a smile even when he had so much that he needed to do. "Do you hear that?" he whispered after almost a whole minute of utter silence.

"No."

"Exactly." His face softened. "Mars, don't fear."

"I'm not-"

"You are. You always do when no-one's looking. But I'm trying to find out more and more about you, and the others, so that I can reach you guys and..." His voice died down as his excitement withered.

"And?"

"I haven't got that part figured out yet, but I'll tell you this." His eyes, a magnificent sea blue with tints of forest green, locked onto a certain object above him. "I'm going to start off by glancing at the sky before I gaze at the universe." The girl sighed, heading back towards the door. Her brother got out the notepad, calling out, "Goodnight, brave Mars."

"Goodnight, gentle Earth."
