The final flashback ~ 11th July 2018

Nothing eventful happened for the first few days we were in Middle Park. The place was almost empty, which was weird since South Park was full of zombies. It almost felt too good to be true.

We decided to stay in a small bungalow we found that had plenty of room for all of us. There were two bedrooms so Tricia got one on her own since sleeping with hormonal teenage boys probably wasn't the best idea. I didn't want her seeing anything that would permanently ruin her mind.

There was even a parking spot for the car, which was a huge bonus. It was really close to the door so we didn't have to walk far if we were in a rush, or if we were just tired after a long day of scavenging.

The first couple of days in the bungalow were strange. We were startled by every noise and constantly had our weapons out, but it was obviously nothing.

We had very little food to store in the kitchen when we first arrived, but after exploring the surrounding buildings we soon found cans of food that didn't expire for months. It was like Christmas when we found someone had a stash of food under a floorboard in the bungalow next door.

Anyway, we were getting ready to go out and explore when we heard a strange tapping sound at the front door. It didn't sound like a zombie scratching at it, more like a weird knock.
The door had no peep hole for some reason so the only way to investigate was to fully open the door.

"Do we open it?" Clyde asked, cowering in Tricia's room - the furthest from the door.

"I dunno. Could be dangerous." I shrugged.

Jason pulled his gun off the kitchen counter and loaded it with a few bullets. I was sick of the sight of that thing. The whole journey to this place he was teaching us about guns.

"I'll open it." Kevin offered.

When nobody denied his offer, he cautiously approached the door and turned the lock. He turned the handle and slowly opened the door slightly.

"Holy crap!" He gasped, "it's a guy!"

He opened the door fully so we could all see.

Stood outside was Jimmy, looking very tired and very dirty.

"Jimmy!" I exclaimed in shock, running over to greet him, "where have you been? After you ditched us back at Clyde's grandma's we kind of assumed you were dead..."

Jimmy rolled his eyes and pulled me into a hug. I could feel myself sticking to the dirt on his clothes, but didn't say anything. He looked like he'd been to hell and back.

"I l-lost my weapon a few w-w-weeks ago to some weird gang, so I also assumed I was d-dead," he let himself into the building and made a bee-line for the crusty sofa, "I can't believe I found you. Mad, huh?"

"How did you find us? We left you in South Park!" Tricia sat beside him on the gross sofa.

"I don't know a-actually," Jimmy laughed, "I just kept walking. I think I s-slept in a garage once or twice, but my m-m-memory is a lil' hazy."

Jason and Kevin were awkwardly hovering just outside of the kitchen, not knowing whether to interrupt our reunion or not.

"Hey th-there," Jimmy gave them a wave, "as you p-probably guessed, I'm J-J-Jimmy. I'm their ch-childhood friend. Nice t-t-to meet you guys."

"We're Kevin and Jason," Kevin introduced the two of them, "it's nice to meet you too. Craig mentioned you a few times. I think he felt bad about leaving you, even if it was your decision."

Jimmy elbowed me playfully.

"So, is this w-where you're staying now?" He asked, looking around the place.

"Yeah, but it's hopefully not permanent." Tricia replied, flicking something off the arm of the sofa.

"I just hope we don't get split up or anything," I admitted, "you guys are great. I don't want to leave you, even if the place is better than here."

"Craig," Kevin spoke up, "you shouldn't think about how we feel and you should do what makes you happy. This isn't the world we used to live in so we'll understand if you decide to leave us."

Everybody added, albeit reluctantly or hesitantly.

"As long as you don't leave me! I'm your sister." Tricia shot me a warning glare, but smiled to show she was joking.

"We were about to head out before you came, Jim. D'you want to come with us?" I offered.

"Sure!" Jimmy smiled, "w-where are we heading?"

"There's an old people's home not far from here. You can go instead of Clyde."

Clyde breathed a sigh of relief. He wasn't a huge fan of going out into the world.
And with that, we all gathered our weapons and got into the car. I decided to leave my bat at home since it took up a lot of space and we weren't planning to go skull-smashing, just stealing anything useful from a care home.

"Smell ya later, Clyde!" Tricia called out the window as we started driving off.

I got onto the road and begun driving towards the care home. And you all know how that turned out.
