Nobody said a word as we drove away from the farmhouse. Nobody looked back either, which was for the best since Bebe was now staggering around like a drunk baby.

We drove at least five miles before anybody decided to attempt conversation.

"Poor Bebe." Tricia mumbled.

Clyde's grip on the steering wheel visibly tightened, but he didn't say anything. Jason shuffled uncomfortably in his seat and his backpack (which I hadn't noticed he'd brought with him) made a strange sound.

"The fuck was that?" I asked, turning around in my seat.

"Oh! I collect rocks," Jason unzipped his backpack and showed it to me. It was completely full of rocks. There was nothing else in there, "I had to leave rock three-hundred-and-twenty back at the farmhouse since there wasn't enough room in my bag, which is a shame since I like that rock."

I stared at him in utter disbelief.

"You collect rocks?" I repeated.

"Yup." Jason nodded.

I give him a final stare before turning back round in my seat and staring at the road ahead of us, unable to find any words.

Why would you fill a backpack with rocks?

"So, where are you two from?" Tricia asked.

The two were silent for a while as if debating telling us.

"We used to be part of another group, but we don't really wanna talk about it." Kevin finally spoke up.

"That's cool." Tricia shrugs.

And we fell back into silence for another four miles. I wondered how bad their group could be if they didn't want to talk about it, but I also don't like talking about my past so I understand the feeling.

I tried turning on the radio, but all that came out was static. I sighed and turned it off, not knowing why I tried it in the first place. If we had a place to charge my phone we would've listened to my Spotify playlist, but my phone had died a couple of weeks earlier.

"Craig, I should really teach you how to drive," Clyde spoke up suddenly, "what if I died? You wouldn't be able to go anywhere, unless our new guys can drive?"

Kevin and Jason both shook their heads. Clyde rolled his eyes.

"Uh, sure," I shrugged, "I don't see why not."

"Cool." Clyde said as he stopped the car in the middle of a clear road.

He got out of his side and gestured for me to move into the driver's seat.

"What, now?" I asked.

Clyde nodded and gestured again. I sighed and swapped seats, wishing I had shorter legs to make that easier. Clyde got in on the passenger's side and buckled in.

"You guys might wanna buckle in too," he told the others, "this might be a lil' dangerous."

I heard the click of everyone's seatbelts and then decided it would be best if I did my own. I mean, Clyde is right - this might be dangerous.

"Okay so, first of all you need to put your foot there," Clyde points to one of the things at me feet, "but don't push on it yet."

I put my foot on the one he pointed to and waited for further instructions.

"Okay so now you need to release the emergency break," he waited for me to do so, "and turn those keys. Now move this stick to the D which means drive, not dick. Tricia I can hear you giggling back there."

I moved the stick to drive and waited for Clyde to stop scolding my sister.

"Now take your foot off the brake slowly," he told me. I did as he said and panicked when I felt movement, "don't panic, Craig. Move your foot to the gas and press lightly to start moving slowly."

I carefully moved my foot to the gas and pressed lightly like he said. The car jerked forward and stopped.

"Craig, you need to keep pressing on the gas, not just press it once." Clyde sighed.

I pressed on the gas lightly again and the car started moving slowly forward. I grabbed onto the steering wheel and waited for Clyde to tell me what to do.

"Okay. Now just practise." He sat back in his seat.

"What? But what if I'm going to crash?"

"Then turn, dumbass." Tricia laughed.

There wasn't anything I could crash into at that moment in time, but it was still something that could happen and I wanted to be prepared for when it did.
I did my best to keep in a straight line as I drove along the straight road and some of my paranoia washed away when I realised it wasn't as difficult as I thought... until I saw the wall.

"Clyde, there's a wall there. I have to turn, what do I do?" I asked as I panicked.

"Just do this." Clyde mimed turning a steering wheel, but his demonstration was as useful as a jelly teapot.

I hit the breaks a little too harshly before we hit the wall and thanked the gods above that I'd decided to wear my seatbelt. If I hadn't put it on I probably would've hit the wall after flying through the windshield.

"Remind me to hire a real driving instructor when I'm old enough and not hire this buffoon." Tricia joked.

"I'm not trained to reach anyone, assholes!" Clyde snapped as tears fell down his cheeks, "I did my best, okay? I'll take over, but I'm still going to teach you at some point."

"Clyde, I know that you aren't trained, you just gave shitty explanations and I had no idea what I was doing. I'm sure that with some practise I'll be as good at driving as you are," I patted his shoulder comfortingly. Clyde sniffled and smiled, "there we go. Please don't cry, it's fucking annoying."

Clyde rolled his eyes and slumped in his seat. He grabbed a book from the glove compartment and started reading it quietly, not talking to anybody.

I took a deep breath and tried to remember what Clyde told me. I turned the wheel and pushed on the gas lightly to start moving slowly until I had successfully made the turn away from the wall.

"Hey look, Craig isn't a complete failure after all!" Tricia joked.

I flipped her off and she returned the gesture with a grin.

"So, where are you going to take us now, taxi man?" Kevin asked.

"I dunno. We're just past the member berry fields so we're still in the general South Park area. We could try Middle Park," I suggested, pointing to a sign that read 'Middle Park [6 miles ->]', "I've only ever been once but I'm pretty sure there was a hotel on the way. We could try there for extra gas and supplies."

Everyone agreed so I started driving in the general direction of Middle Park.

A/N: I had to wiki-how how to drive so I know it's probably not accurate. I can't drive yet so 🤷🏻‍♀️
