this is where they hit me.
here's where i got shot.
that's where their dogs bit me.
i think of that a lot.

this is where they cut me
with hot and jagged words.
that is where they cuffed me
and fed me to their birds.

this is where they bruised me
and framed me for a crime.
that is where they used me
and swallowed up my time.

after all my little deaths,
tragedies and falls —
i'm still mending from my wrecks.
i'm still standing tall.
