-PatchPaw!-
Nightwingwof here is my submission! :D
PatchPaw was padding through camp, bored. That's when a cat, (some apprentice, let's say his best friend cuz idk who his best friend is) his best friend, came up to him with a somewhat exited and scared look.
"What's wrong?/PatchPaw!" They simultaneously said.
"PatchPaw! PatchPaw! I saw the medicine cat putting deadly nightshade and deathberries into (random)paw's sister's poultice! Then she started coughing! And then dying!!"
PatchPaw didn't believe his faithful friend at all. She/he had such an imaginative mind, and they made up things all the time, so it didn't phase him at all when he heard her/him muster such a bizzare accusation.
So he giggled.
"Pff, that's got to be the most hilarious thing you've come up with this whole entire NewLeaf!"
"No, I'm serious!" They continued, dragging it on.
"As if. Imagine! (Medicine cat name) would never do that!" PatchPaw laughed again.
"You've got to believe me! I saw it with my own two eyes! She/he told me I'd be crowfood if I told anyone!"
They looked genuinely scared, but again, they were magic at faking things. Sometimes, he even believed them. But not this time, how could they? All PatchPaw thought of it was his friend making up something to scare him. But he wasn't phased, not even a little bit.
"Next are you gonna tell me you saw a flock of hedgehogs up in the sky?"
"PatchPaw, please! I swear!"
PatchPaw opened his mouth to speak, but he was interrupted by his mentor.
"PatchPaw, I'm assessing you. Go to the far side of the forest."
Then they trotted off, like they hadn't interrupted anything.
Then PatchPaw went off into the forest. He scanned all around him, spotting a squirrel picking up some nuts it dropped. He got into the hunting crouch, before pouncing on the unknowing creature and killing it in a single bite. He felt proud of himself for that.
He walked around, then found an area he hadn't known of. Like a small cave. A bunch of mice scurried into it, so PatchPaw bounded in, his black leg blending in with the shadows. Then he felt a sharp sting on his tail. He had unknowingly fallen right into the middle of a snake nest. They were striking at his paws and biting and hissing and making a scratching sound with their scales, and before he knew it he had been picked up by the scruff by his mentor, who had been watching him and witnessed him walking right into the cave-like place. PatchPaw was scared for his life, were they poisonous? Would their venom have killed him by now? He didn't know. Anothing thing he didn't realize were the shocked stares when his frenzied mentor was racing him to the medicine den.
"Oh deary me, what happened?" The medicine cat asked.
"Padded into a snake test during an assessment."
"Bet he won't be passing." Then they turned to PatchPaw. "Now, were the snakes' eyes slits?"
"No." PatchPaw replied. "They were big round circles. Like the full moon!"
Then the medicine cat flashed a dissatisfied look, but then smiled. "Well, they're not venomous. You'll be fine, the only problem is muscle pain. But again, you'll be just fine."
PatchPaw sighed, relieved. He wondered about (best friend name here). He wondered what they were doing.
"About your friend," (medicine cat name) meowed, almost as if reading his mind.
"She got into...an accident as well. But she didn't make it." They continued.
PatchPaw's eyes widened and his ears went down.
"What happened? Can I see her!?" PatchPaw asked at the verge of tears.
"The burial already happened. But, I'd like to give you a little gift to remember her, like she's here with us still."
(Medicine cat name) meowed as they handed over a flower. But not just any flower; it was one that he'd never seen another like. It was special, and even though it smelled funny and it's petals were a bit rigid, (one even came off, as if it had been dunked in something...) He still kept it. He kept it even when he became a warrior. Right by his ear was the flower, but something that PatchPaw hadn't known about that flower is that it was slowly poisoning and killing him each day.
Word count: 718 words! I hope that's enough-
