Airport

I was glad to finally be in a place that wasn't crowded with people. The airport was almost deserted, actually. Probably because of the holidays. It was pretty big, and there were these big boards that read the flights and what time they would be leaving or arriving. Further down, there was a desk with a sign that read "Tickets." I made my way over there, hoping that I could get a cheap one.

There was a lady at the desk, who was tapping her red fingernails. She had an elbow on the table, and her hand cupped under her chin. When she saw me coming, she quickly straightened up.

"Hello, how can I help you?" She asked eagerly. It was clear that she didn't get many people in today.

I rubbed my eyes tiredly. "What's the cheapest ticket ya got for today?"

She furrowed her brows, and then pulled out a sheet of paper. Today would be nice, I thought.

"Ah here it is," she said finally. "Looks like there is a flight for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Costs $85 and it leaves at 1:15."

Took you long enough. I sighed and looked impatiently for a clock. I found one on the wall to my left and it read 12:45. "Yeah I guess that works," I replied with a shrug.

I pulled my old man's wallet from my pocket and counted out the money, placing it on the desk. I had just a little over $15 left.

"Alrighty!" She said cheerfully. I nearly gagged as she handed me a ticket. "You're going to want to go down this hall right here and then go through security. After that, just go straight down until you see section A," she said gesturing to my ticket.

I nodded and got away from her as quick as possible. Jesus she was irritating. Oklahoma. I guess that was where I was headed.

I followed the instructions that Miss Sunshine gave me, and ended up at security. There about four people lined up in front of me, and a single man in uniform was going through their bags. Shit the switchblade.

I tried to look as unsuspicious as possible and casually stuck my hand in my pocket, feeling the blade. The line was moving by pretty quickly and it was getting closer and closer to me.

"Next!" The man in uniform called.

I walked up to him.

"Both hands out to the side." He said.

I did so without complaint, only because I didn't want to blow the chance of finally being able to get out of here.

He did a quick pat down and stopped once he reached my pockets that contained the wallet and the switchblade. Inside, I was beginning to feel nervous, but I didn't bat an eye.

"Empty your pockets," he said.

I took out the wallet, and my pack of Kool's but smoothly shoved the blade further in. The man scanned over the items that I took out, and then nodded approvingly.

"Next!" He called out again.

Sucker.

As soon as I was a safe distance from him, I let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. I had now entered an area with lots of chairs and with tiny signs up above that had a letter. I looked down at my ticket and saw that it read, A, so it was the first section there.

There were about 15 or 20 people seated in that area. I hoped desperately that I would have a good seat, because all I wanted to do was get some sleep. I looked up at a clock and it was 1:03. Still got some time to kill.

I spotted a bathroom next to the section, and decided that I should go before the flight. I probably looked like shit, too.

I went in, and was completely surprised. I had never even seen a bathroom so...so nice. The sinks were all lined up neatly, and it was real clean. There were actual stalls, and none of the doors were broken down like I was used to.

I did my business, and I was washing my hands when I looked up into the mirror and saw the sight before me. I looked like I had been through hell and back. The bruise that I had gotten from John and where my dad hit me, was now a large blue and purple spot. My lip was slightly swollen from the encounter that I had with those pricks before. My hair was matted, hanging to my brows, and it was real messy. My clothes were also dirty from laying sleeping on the bench. My eyes were probably the worst. I had huge dark circles and bags.

I yawned and splashed some water on my face, hoping to look like I was actually alive again. I did my best to fix my hair and clean some of my cuts.

After cleaning up a bit, I went back to section A. I made sure to pick a seat away from most of the people, I had enough interactions today. I crossed my arms and began thinking about what life would be like now. Would I have a place to stay? Do I still have to worry about getting mugged or jumped? I wondered how different it would be from here in New York. Maybe I would actually be able to relax and wind down. That would be nice.

I was interrupted by a loud voice, "1:15pm flight to Tulsa, Oklahoma section A is now boarding!"

Sorry about how long this took to put up! I'm going to try to get a chapter every 1 or 2 days at least, since the story is coming to an end. I'm not sure if that ticket price is completely accurate, I just made an estimated guess on how it would be in that time period. And security definitely isn't what it's like now so hopefully that was at least close 😂. I hope you guys are still enjoying the story as much as I am. Love you all.

Forever and always, Stay Gold
