Coming Out {7}

“Trav, are you alright? You’ve been acting weird lately,” Gav said with a concerned frown.

“Yea, I’m fine Gav!” I lied with a bright smile.

We were sitting in my living room watching Piranha on Netflix. Gav and I had a habit of watching shitty movies like this together.

                “Are you sure?” Gav asked.

“No Gavin. I’m not sure if I’m alright or not,” I said, rolling my eyes.

But in all honesty, I really didn’t know if I was alright or not. Those two notes were driving me crazy. I hadn’t gotten a new one today, but I was still terrified. Would someone really out me? Who were they? How did they know? And why were they doing it?

“Trav, if you need to talk about something, you can trust me,” Gav said seriously.

“I know I can Gav! But I’m really fine,” I said with a shrug.

This was one of the very, very few things that I couldn’t talk to Gav about. Yea, I’m sure it would go over real well if I told him that someone was threatening to out my true sexuality.

“I…what?” Gav asked in confusion as we continued to watch the movie. “So the police tell everyone to get out of the water, and they’re all going to ignore them and jump in the water anyways just because one guy said he had beer?”

“Because fuck logic. Let’s go to McDonalds,” I said, turning the movie off and jumping up.

“Aw but Trav! There was death and nudity!” Gav whined.

I rolled my eyes. I had actually dropped my eyes during the nude scenes. Ugh. Disgusting.

“The death scenes are really fake. Now let’s go to McDonalds!” I said, grabbing his arm and forcing him to stand.

We got in my car and I drove us down to the local McDonalds. We pulled up to the drive thru window and I leaned out.

“Welcome to McDonalds. What can I get for you today?” a man’s voice crackled out.

“Uh, yea, we’ll have two Big Macs to go,” I said, grabbing my wallet.

Gav slapped a hand over his mouth as he started to laugh. I stared at him in confusion and he pulled his hand away, laughing so hard he couldn’t speak.

                “You…tard!” he managed.

“What?” I asked, pulling up to the window to wait for our food.

“You’re at a fucking drive thru and you just ordered your food to go!” he cried, laughing again.

I blushed and shrugged. “Maybe he didn’t know,” I said defensively. “These new fast food workers are awful sketchy.”

We grabbed the food and the guy told me how much I owed. I handed him the money before driving away to the gas station so we could eat and get drinks.

We sat on the curb of the gas station and began to eat our Big Macs in comfortable silence. Gav pulled out his iPod and played Dance Gavin Dance.

“And when she laughs I like it!” we sang and laughed together.

These were the moments that made me have such deep feelings for Gav. Knowing that I could just be myself around him and have a good time. Knowing that even when I did stupid things like order to go at the drive thru, he would laugh with me, not at me. Knowing that I trust him and always manage a smile when I was around him. It didn’t matter if my life was going to hell. When I was with Gav, I was happy.

“Let’s go get some Monster. I’m thirsty,” Gave whined, having finished his Big Mac.

I nodded and we got up and went into the gas station. We grabbed Monster and paid for them before leaving the gas station.

“So, where do you want to go?” I asked as we climbed back into my car.

Gav shrugged. “I don’t know. Hey, is it just me, or has Gage calmed down a little? I mean, usually he’s a little bitch, but he’s been much nicer lately. I don’t like it,” he said and laughed.

“Maybe he’s being nicer because you haven’t been as flirtatious around Rose as you usually are,” I said with a shrug.

“Nah that’s not it,” he said, waving his hand in dismissal. “I heard a rumor that he and Lyle hooked up and fucked in the backroom of the library during study hall the other day. So it’s probably that putting him in a good mood.”

“Well, I need mind soap for that dirty image. Moving on in life,” I said, shaking my head.

“Gage gets laid like a fucking champ. Being gay must be the way to go,” Gav said, waggling his eyebrows.

I fought off a blush and rolled my eyes at him. “I seriously doubt that Gage claims to be gay just because he’s a sex addict. I’m pretty sure he says he’s gay because he is legitimately gay.”

“Nope, it’s definitely a conspiracy,” Gav said, shaking his head stubbornly.

“Oh god,” I grumbled, rolling my eyes.

“Yea, yea. Say my name,” Gav said, winking at me.

“Actually, your initials are GOD. Your name is Gavin,” I pointed out.

Gav folded his hands behind his head and grinned at me. “She’s fucking you, but she’s screaming my name,” he said smugly.

“No, she’s screaming your initials,” I corrected.

“Whatever,” he said, rolling his eyes.

“Yea, most girls don’t scream out ‘OH GAVIN OTIS DRAKE!’. They usually just scream ‘OH GOD’,” I said, sipping on my Monster and starting up the car.

“How would you know Mr. Virgin?” Gav asked, raising an eyebrow at me. “Do you have something you would like to share with the rest of the class?”

“I’m Rose’s baby daddy. I already told you this,” I said in annoyance, pulling out of the parking lot and driving towards my house.

“Yea, yea! Can I be the god daddy?! GET IT? GET IT? BECAUSE MY INITIALS ARE GOD. I’M SO PUNNY IT HURTS.”

I face palmed myself and shook my head. “Gav, I can’t handle you,” I groaned, banging my head against the steering wheel.

“Trav, you love me!” Gav cried happily.

I shook my head at him. Oh, he didn’t know the truth of that statement.

A few minutes later, I pulled into my driveway and we got out of the car and went inside. We plopped down on the couches and watched TV until Gav’s mom came to pick him up.

“See you later Gav,” I said, giving a small wave as he pulled his shoes on.

“Bye Trav! See you tomorrow!” He hesitated. “And if you need to talk to me, about anything at all, just call me.”

I smiled softly as he left my house, shutting the door as he went. I went up to my bedroom and laid down on my bed, pulling the notes out of my backpack and staring at the handwriting on them.

“Who are you?” I mumbled, my heart sinking. Whoever they were, they were going to ruin my whole friendship with Gavin.

I stuffed the notes back in my backpack and rolled over, squeezing my eyes shut. I quickly fell asleep.

                                                                                                ***

I stepped into the school and rubbed my eyes, feeling exhausted. I walked over to my group of friends and leaned heavily on Gav, too lazy to fight gravity right now.

“So, now that Trav’s here, we can finally find out! Gage, did you fuck Lyle in the back room of the library?” Gav asked in excitement.

Gage rolled his eyes and nodded. “Yea, yea, yea. We had a little fun. Don’t act like you’ve never done it,” he grumbled in annoyance.

“Well, if Rose would like a demonstration…” Gav trailed off and waggled his eyebrows at Rose.

Rose rolled her eyes at him. “Trav, I don’t understand how you put up with these two,” she said with a sigh, motioning at Gage and Gavin.

“Hell if I know,” I said with a helpless shrug, straightening up.

The bell rang and we all sighed, none of us wanting to go to class. I waved at them and headed off to my locker. Jeez, I needed to get to school earlier.

I put in my combination and froze, suddenly a little afraid. Would there be a note in my locker today? If it wasn’t here in the morning, it could end up in here by the afternoon.

I took a deep breath and pulled my locker open. I relaxed when no paper fluttered out onto the floor. I checked my locker and relaxed even more when there was no sign of a new note.

I exchanged my books and sighed, pulling out the two notes. I scanned them carefully, trying to figure out whose handwriting was on them.

Who would write these notes? And how did they know I was secretly gay? Did whoever it was know I liked Gavin? Had they already told someone? Did more than one person know?

So many questions were flying around my brain all because of these two little notes. It was absolutely crazy, and I hated it.

“So, I see you found my notes gay boy.”

My blood chilled as the voice penetrated my ears. Oh my god. They had written these notes?! I gulped and slowly turned to face the owner of the voice.
