Coming Out {27}

“AYYY SEXY LADY!” Gav sang, skipping next to me as we walked the track in gym.

But I wasn’t paying much attention to him. My eyes were locked on Collin, Josh, and Alex as they made their way up to the track.

Collin was gripping Alex’s hand, making it quite clear that he wasn’t going to let Alex wander off to walk with me today. Collin’s eyes were searching for me.

When he finally spotted me, the hate in his eyes had me shrinking back a little. Aw man. I was proud of Alex for being rebellious, but I was also terrified for my life now.

“He won’t do anything,” Gage said, noticing me. “Not with Alex right there. He’s mad, but not mad enough to kill you and wreck his relationship with Alex.”

                “Oh that’s comforting,” I groaned.

“Hey, cheer up Mr. Grumpypants! We’re going to be at my house tonight, after all!” Gav said brightly, patting me on the back. “I even have The Legend of Zelda that I borrowed from you 2 years ago! Maybe you can help me beat it!”

“Gav, I beat that game by myself when I was 7. You’ve had it for 2 years and you’re not even half way through it yet,” I pointed out.

“Well we’re going to fix that tonight. Duh,” Gav said, rolling his eyes at me as if I were stupid.

“Red nails and a butcher knife. I don’t care cause she’s looking fine. She’s a good way to die,” Gage sang to himself as we began to walk again.

He glanced around the gym. “Where’s my cousin?” he asked.

“Rose had a lesson this period,” Gav said, smiling a little.

I dropped my gaze to my feet, guilt eating at me. Guilt because I still loved Gav when I was trying to get with Alex. Guilt because I hated seeing my best friend so happy.

Gage glanced at me and grinned, as if he could read my thoughts. “Tonight should be fun,” he said casually.

The day sped by and soon, the final bell was ringing. I hadn’t talked to Alex all day, despite trying to. Collin seemed to be glued to his hip.

I shut my locker and looked around, wishing I would spot Collin and Josh without Alex. But, of course, there the three of them were.

They were standing at Collin’s locker. Collin was talking to Alex and Josh. I saw Alex’s eyes darting around the hallway quick, probably in search of me.

                “Trav? Come on, let’s go!”

I jumped a little and turned to face Gav. He smiled brightly at me, Gage standing behind him impatiently.

“Yea, I’m ready,” I mumbled, glancing back at Alex one last time before following my friends out to Gav’s bus.

I sat down in a seat and Gage sat next to me, leaving Gav to sit by himself. I was secretly grateful for that. I was already depressed enough not being able to talk to Alex. That last thing I wanted was for Gav to sit and talk to me about how happy Rose made him.

We got off the bus at Gav’s house and went inside. We sat on his bed as he set up his Nintendo and turned on his iPod.

“Cover me with kisses baby, cover me with love. Roll me in designer sheets, I’ll never get enough. Emotions come, I don’t know why,” I sang along as the music played.

“Do we really have to watch you fail at playing Zelda?” Gage whined, ignoring my singing.

“Yes!” Gav argued. “Just until the last person gets here!”

“Last person? You told me it was just us!” Gage said suspiciously.

“No! Well…yea. I did. But whatever!” Gav stuck his tongue out at Gage.

The doorbell rang and Gav jumped up, skipping out of his bedroom. Gage shook his head in annoyance and laid down, resting his head in my lap.

“Just chill out, alright? Maybe tonight you guys can get back to normal terms. Gav may be an oblivious idiot, but even he can tell something’s up with you lately,” he said.

I nodded and smiled. “Yea, I think tonight will be good for us. We can finally get back to just being friends. Maybe I can even convince myself that that’s all we’re going to be,” I said.

Gav returned to his bedroom, a huge grin on his face. My smile dropped as Rose entered the room behind him.

Gage sat up, nearly smashing his head on my chin. He narrowed his eyes at Rose. “What the hell is she doing here?” he demanded.

“I invited her,” Gav said, slinging an arm around her shoulders and kissing her cheek.

“Don’t be an ass Gagey,” Rose said, glaring at him. “Or I’ll tell your mom what you did in the library with Lyle.”

“Tell her. She’ll probably be happy I was even in a freaking library,” Gage said, glaring right back at Rose. “And quit calling me Gagey!”

“Can I call you Gagey?” I asked.

“Only if we’re naked together,” he said, smirking at me.

“You’re gross,” Rose said, sitting on Gav’s bed.

“You’re annoying,” Gage said, barely paying attention to her now that he was thinking about me naked. Oh joy.

“Can we do something?” I asked. “Besides fuck,” I added, seeing the look in Gage’s eyes.

“Yes! Let’s go to the park!” Gav offered.

We all got up and put our shoes on. We got in Gav’s car and he drove us down to the park. We went over to the playground and climbed onto the monkey bars, sitting on them.

“Well, what do you know? This day is determined to fuck you over Trav,” Gage said, nodding.

I followed his gaze and my face paled. Collin and Josh were a little ways away, taking shots on the basketball hoop together.

Collin wiped sweat off of his forehead. He said something to Josh as he pulled his shirt off and tossed it on the ground next to two water bottles.

“Damn,” Gage said, letting out a little whistle. “He has a nice body. He’s definitely not as sexy as Alex, but he’s sure as hell attractive.”

“And out to kill me,” I reminded him. “Let’s not forget that little fact.”

I had told Gage what had happened. Gav didn’t know, but Gage did. And now there was Collin, just a few feet away from me. If he saw me, he would no doubt kill me since Alex wasn’t anywhere in sight.

Collin moved to get his water bottle and glanced up. He spotted us and froze before anger crossed over his face. He barked something at Josh and then the two were storming over to us.

“Oh god save me,” I groaned, ducking behind Gage.

“Hello Travis,” Collin snarled, glaring up at me.

“H-Hi Collin. Lovely weather we’re having today,” I said nervously.

“Have you kissed him?” Collin asked flatly.

“No!” I cried honestly. “I haven’t kissed him! I swear! Just what Josh saw at the movies and that was it!”

“I’m warning you, you stupid faggot. I don’t care how mad Alex will get at me. I will put you in the hospital if you kiss him,” Collin said viciously. “You get the senior ball with him, and you’re lucky you’re getting that much. After that, I’ll convince my brother to get the fuck away from you.”

“Or you can stop being a complete prick and just let your brother date who he wants,” Gage suggested with a shrug.

                “Fuck off midget,” Collin snapped.

“I am five fucking feet you incestuous asshole. I am not a midget,” Gage grumbled.

“Did you just call me incestuous?” Collin asked.

Gage nodded. “Yea, I did. You have to admit that you’re really creepily overprotective of Alex,” he said, smirking.

“I have to be with faggots like you surrounding him,” Collin said, glaring at Gage in hate.

“I find it really funny how you keep calling Trav and Gage faggots, when you’re brother is gay. If you call them faggots for being gay, you’re basically calling Alex a faggot,” Rose pointed out.

“Alex isn’t a faggot,” Collin snapped.

“By what logic? If gay boys are faggots, then Alex is a faggot,” Rose said.

Since he didn’t know how to defend himself, Collin just glared at Rose. “I hate all of you. All four of you. So don’t fucking piss me off. And after the senior ball, I’ll make sure that none of you ever get near Alex again,” he said before turning and dragging Josh with him back to the basketball hoop.

“Well, that was…exciting?” Gav asked, taking Rose’s hand in his. He frowned. “Hey, when is the senior ball? Is that soon?”

                I face-palmed myself. “Gav, it’s this Saturday!” I said.

Gav got a goofy grin on his face. “Oh! Well, good thing I already have my tuxedo,” he said joyfully.

“Gage, do you have a date?” Rose asked him.

Gage shrugged and nodded. “Yea, I asked somebody. You guys will see when we get there,” he said dismissively.

I glanced over at Gav and Rose as they talked to each other happily. My gaze slid over to Gage, who was texting on his phone.

I let my thoughts wander as my friends joked around. When we all started to get hungry, Gav drove us back to his house.

“Boys and Rose, I made dinner!” Mrs. Drake called cheerfully as we entered the house.

“FOOD!” Gav cried happily, dragging me into the kitchen with him. “FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOD, FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!”

“Yes, food. Now shut up and sit down Gavin,” Mr. Drake said, coming out and sitting at the table.

Gage and Rose wandered into the room and we all sat down at the table together. Mrs. Drake set down food for us.

“Uh mof fumf!” Gav said, his mouth full of chicken.

“Repeat that after you swallow,” I instructed.

“I love food!” Gav said once he had swallowed.

“Yes Gav. Now shut up and eat it,” Gage said in annoyance. “And don’t talk with your mouth full. It’s disgusting.”

“Sorry mom,” Gav said, rolling his eyes at Gage.

“I don’t know. I get pretty turned on watching Gav’s food get all chewed up,” I said, shooting him a flirty wink.

“Wanna watch me grind my chicken?” Gav asked, winking right back.

“You can grind my chicken,” I said, not entirely joking.

Gav chuckled and went back to eating his dinner. I dropped my gaze down to my plate, my appetite gone.

I just wanted to scream at him. Grab his shirt and shake him until he stopped being so oblivious. I wanted to tell him I had been in love with him for a long time. I wanted to tell him that he drove me crazy. I wanted to tell him that I was afraid my guilt would wreck things between me and Alex.

But I also just wanted to forget all of that and move on already.

“Hey Trav…if you and Alex don’t work out, my offer is always up,” Gage said so that only I could hear him. He winked at me before turning his attention to his food.

                Yea, that was another problem.

Was Gage just joking around? Or did he really have feelings for me? Feelings that went beyond just wanting to have sex with me?

Well, considering the fact that the senior ball was Saturday, I had a feeling all of my questions would be answered soon. I would either move on with Alex, or continue being hung up on Gav. Or, hey, who knows, maybe I would be so upset over Alex and Gav, Gage would manage his way in.

Yep. Senior ball was definitely going to be an interesting and unpredictable night.
