Epilogue

~ Two months after the birth of Hiccup and Astrid's second child, a son, whom they named, Joseph ~
~ Hiccup's POV ~
JackDaw settled in well into his new home. He adored Lucy and she adored him just as much.
They would spend hours from sunrise until sunset playing and training together.
I would watch them and train them like Gobber used to do for us.
Gobber spent his days with Valka, enjoying the quiet of his workshop with her.
They were close friends and they spent hours building saddles together, laughing and dancing most of the time.
Well, Valka danced while Gobber played his panpipes softly for her sing and jig to.
They simply enjoyed one another's company.
One night, we gathered around my mother's dinner table for our Friday night evening meal.
It had become a tradition to spend Friday's with her.
Things had changed so much since I and my father shared a quiet meal together in silence at this same table.
Now the room was lit with lanterns and it buzzed with the joyful atmosphere that my mother had brought home.
My father had never had the time to make evenings fun. By evening he was too exhausted to spend time with his son.
Now my mother had returned, she brought with her all the joy she wanted to have given me when I was younger, instead, she gave it to my children, Lucy and Seph, he was nick-named many things.
Astrid, myself, our two children, my mother and my mentor were all sat around the old wooden table in my father's house. We were wrapped in the laughter of Lucy as Jackdaw wormed around beneath our feet and the table and CloudJumper peered hungrily through the windows.
I silently watched all the faces I loved.
Mum beside me, Seph in her arms, a never ageing smile on her face.
Astrid helping Lucy force down the 'food' she and Valka had spent all day making.
Gobber feeding his food accordingly to a hungry Jackdaw under the table with a laugh.
There were just two things missing, my Dad, and my dragon.
But they weren't missing, it was almost like they weren't meant to be there.
I knew how much both of them would have wanted to see this, but somehow, it felt right that they couldn't see it.
The things that had happened to them, meant that my world could change for the better.
Because my father sacrificed himself, it meant I had the chance to raise a family with Astrid and with my Mother at my side helping me every step of the way.
Because Toothless had gone home, I had the opportunity to help my daughter raise a young, helpless NightFury that was not only the offspring of lightning and death itself, but the offspring of my best friend. A little piece of Toothless to have with me wherever I go.
I knew that whatever might happen now, a new enemy, a new war, because bad always rolls around, good would come of it and in the end, we would always come home. Whether that be to Berk, or some place else, it didn't matter, because it's not the buildings that are home, it's the people inside them that make it feel like you're coming home all over again.
