Gossip
Dipper's POV: I couldn't believe my eyes! Pacifica Northwest, one of the richest girls I've ever known is now a waitress at greasy spoon!! I had so many questions, though none seem polite to just blurte out in public.
"Hey Pacifica!! I haven't seen you in forever!" Mabel said a bit too loud. The blonde blushed. I took a moment to look at her. She hasn't seem to change that much, still had bright blonde hair with bangs, dark blue eyes, and large hoop earrings. She was wearing the uniform for the diner, which was a pinkish purplish dress with a white apron.
"Yeah it's been awhile." She mumbled back. I could tell she was uncomfortable. Was it that she was remembering how she used to treat Mabel or was it that her arch nemesis was seeing her like this. "Not that it's a bad thing." I thought to myself, "she doesn't look to bad in that outfit as well." I shook the thought from my head. Even though Pacifica changed I forget how she used to be. I know I should forgive, but something was always stopping me from doing so.
"We'll have four of your flap jacks!" Mabel said, breaking through my thoughts. She looked around the table to see if everyone was ok with that. Everyone seemed fine with it. Pacifica wrote it on her notepad and left.
"I have to ask, what happened to her?" I whispered to Soos and Melody. The last time I saw her was at my 13th birthday party. I visited Gravity Falls every summer but I don't have any memories of her during those times.
"What'd you mean?" Soos questioned. I ignored his bad grammar, though it almost hurt to.
"I mean I thought she'd rather die before accepting this kind of job. What made her do it?" I asked. I don't know why but I felt like this was something that I need to know. Mabel always said that my curiosity was too much to be a good thing. Maybe she's right, however I can't seem to control it when it comes to certain things. And for some reason Pacifica happens to be one of those things.
"That's kind of personal. I think it'll be best if you ask her yourself." Melody replied honestly. She was right. I don't like gossip so I'm not sure I did that.
"You're right. Sorry." I apologize as our food comes out. My stomach growls at the sight of it, reminding me that I haven't eaten since breakfast. As soon as she sets the plate down I start chowing down.
"How's the pregnancy been?" Mabel asked Melody, who was pregnant for the first time. I see her and Soos's face light up at the talk of their unborn baby.
"It's been a bit harder now that's I'm getting closer," Melody replied with a smile on her face, "but it'll all be worth it when this little one comes."
Soos hugged her wife with one hard on her growing belly. "Just one more month then we'll have the most awesome baby ever!"
I smiled, I was happy for them. They've been trying I get pregnant for a few years now. As the rest of the table continued to talk about their baby my mind was on something else. Me and Mabel planned on leaving before the baby came. We'll have to get working on finding a new place tomorrow.
~time jump~
It was dark as I drove home. Mabel was talking to herself about her next project starting a photography business. Mabel liked to keep busy, never like being idle. I part of me wonders if she does this because of the ptsd she has from all the terror we went through as kids. Though, Mabel never talks about them I know she's been experiencing flashbacks to those times. I try to talk to her but she always gets upset whenever I bring it up. She found a way to keep the flashbacks at bay by always working but I know from experience that that doesn't work.
"Dipper!" Mabel yelled at me. I shook my head, I know how dangerous it was to be zone out or unconcentrated while driving. Usually I'm very responsible about that but today it seems like my mind has another plan.
"Sorry! Just thinking."
"About what?" She had that look on her face that tells me she's going to pester me until she finds the answer.
"About finding a new place." I lied.
I knew she knew I was lying but she seemed to accept it for the moment.
"I can't wait!! We're finally going to have a place of our own!" Mabel's face was full of excitement, "the ultimate party pad. No rules, able to do whatever we want whenever we want!"
I grinned, it's hard living with your parents in your 20s. Especially with our parents. They got really strict when we were 13 and never really seem to understand that we're adults now.
"We'll need to start looking around soon." I say as we pull into the Mystery Shack. "Especially if we're going to be gone before the Soos's baby comes."
"Let's look tomorrow after lunch." Mabel said as she got her phone out, "I'm making plans with Candy and Grenda to meet up in the morning."
We get out of the car and head up to our old room. It was pretty late so Soos and Melody were already asleep. Mabel jumps into bed, still in her regular clothes, and falls asleep instantly. I roll my eyes.
I hop in the shower. I grimace at the memory of 12 year old me fighting about showering. Glad I got over that phase pretty quickly. I get out and get dressed for bed. Laying in bed, I'm on my phone looking for apartments. There wasn't many listed on internet, since the people of Gravity Falls are still kind of old school. We'll just have to drive around and see what we can find tomorrow. I look at the alarm, silently cussing myself when I see how late it's gotten.
Even after I set my phone down I still found it hard to fall sleep. I didn't like this time. When there's nothing to distract you from the memories. I shake away the images from my brain. "One night of sleep is all I ask for!"
Finally after hours of tossing and turning I drift to sleep with only one thought on my mind. I couldn't remove the image off my mind. The blonde girl is going to be the death of me until I get some answers.
