The Wonderful Holy Spirit is the greatest treasure that any Believer could ever have.
 We'll look again at the function of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Believer.

-And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever–

 The Holy Spirit is our Comforter

 The Greek word used for Comforter is PARAKLETOS. And it means many things. Let's look at each part.

a) Counselor - Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 11:14 NKJV

 The Holy Spirit makes us not fall. He can be our advisor. Everyday we make decisions. Even small decisions are still decisions. We can make the Holy Spirit apart of the decision making process.

b) Helper - Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Romans 8:26 NKJV
 The Holy Spirit always wants to help. One of the ways in which He helps us is through prayer. He helps us to pray the appropriate prayers. He directs our prayers to our Father.

 
c) Intercession - In the same Scripture above, we also see that the Holy Spirit intercedes or prays on our behalf. Helping us to pray and praying on our behalf are two different things.

 
d) Advocate - My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
I John 2:1 NKJV
The Scripture tells us that Jesus Christ advocates for us. To advocate means to speak to someone on behalf of another person. In the same way that Jesus advocates us, the Holy Spirit is also an advocate.

 
e) Strengthener - The Holy Spirit strengthens us. That is why we need Him.

 
f) Standby - Someone on standby is available for use at any given time if called upon. The Holy Spirit is always ready to be of service to us. The Holy Spirit will do and does all of these things in our lives. When we cultivate our relationship with Him, it becomes easier to see His functions in our lives.
