24The Aftermath

@CastielNovak Be careful out there. The world is a scary place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nobody could sleep the rest of that night.
Gabriel had showed up five minutes later, driving directly behind the cops. He had barely shut off the car before he was already outside and running. He ran through them, using his 'small'-ness to his advantage, and dodged their evasive efforts. They chased after him, but he didn't care. He bolted up the steps through the open doors to see all of the lights off.
Gabe ran into Sam's room to see Cas and Dean standing together, hugging by the foot of the bed. Sam stood abruptly at the sight of his boyfriend and the two copied Cas and Dean. Gabe buried himself into Sam's chest and felt Sam pull him closer.
Someone ran in moments later and Gabe could barely hear Sam say, "It's okay. He's with me," due to the fact his ears were muffled by Sam's arms.
Gabe pulled away and bent his head back, looking up at his moose through the darkness. He heard murmuring from the other couple. Suddenly, the lights were on and Gabe had to shut his eyes at the sudden brightness next to him.
"What happened, Samwich? Are you guys okay? I was on my way here and then you just texted me to keep driving around and that was all I heard from you. I got so scared when I heard those sirens, I had to follow them. I was so scared one of you had gotten hurt or-"
"Gabe," Sam interrupted. He immediately stopped and felt his chest lightly rise and fall, slightly out of breath from his sudden outburst and anxiety.
"Are you okay?" Gabe asked gently, voice barely audible.
Sam smiled lightly. "Yeah, candy man, I am." Gabe smiled gingerly. "We all are."
The two looked at Cas and Dean's previous position to see Castiel now sat upon the edge of the bedsheets. Dean was no where in the room, but Gabe could hear the man's deep voice emanating from the livingroom.
Sam slid his hands down Gabe's arms to his hands and squeezed them reassuringly. Gabe returned the squeezing gesture and added a gentle smile.
Gabriel traversed the room to his brother, leaving Sam to go talk to his own. Gabe sat down next to Cas. He was hunched over, twiddling his thumbs. It was what he had always
"I am fine, Gabriel," Cas piped up.
He looked to the door in search of Dean, not seeing nor hearing him, before turning back to his brother. "Cassie, you're obviously not. You don't have to act brave all the time. Talk to me, please."
Cas put his head in his hands and dragged them down his face in exhaustion. It was the purest emotion on his face other than guilt.
Gabe was a near professional at reading body language, his anxiety making him do it effectively subconsciously.
"This is my fault, Gabe," he spoke up, making eye contact with his younger brother.
What? That's impossible. "That's not true. What happened?" Gabe didn't know anything about the situation at all. He had no clue what went on and no idea why the cops were there.
Castiel sighed before leaning back, laying down. "Dean and I were asleep when an alarm rang. Neither of us recognized the tone. After a little bit, Dean realized it was the security alarm. He grabbed his gun and disappeared. I actually had not seen him until moments before you had."
Gabe was confused. "How is it your fault though?" he inquired.
Cas lifted his head by his neck to look at his brother. "Really?" he says, sarcasm dripping from his voice. "The one night that he is not alone, someone breaks in?"
"Well, yeah, okay. But how do you know they didn't break in for him?" Gabe was seriously worried. He knew the sudden 'rise to fame' had Cas a little stressed, and he wanted to try and alleviate some of that.
Cas was silent for a moment. He then sat up and leaned to the side to look out in the livingroom, repeating the same thing Gabe had done moments before. They were checking to make sure Dean couldn't hear them. He sat back and looked at Gabe. "Do you remember the night that I had called you asking for a ride? My car had broke down?"
Gabe nodded, recalling the memory. "Yeah. You made me pull over cause you got sick. You told me not to ask. What about it?"
Castiel looked around the bed for a moment. He grabbed his phone and unlocked it, immediately opening Twitter. He tapped the buttons rather quickly before shoving his phone in front of Gabriel.
"Since when were you such a techie? You can't even work a TV remote," Gabe quipped.
Castiel glared at him. "It is Twitter. It is not that difficult to operate."
Gabriel looked down at Cassie's phone in his hands, eyes focusing on the sight. Immediately, he had to do a double take. The cover photo was of Cas sleeping in a room that Gabe recognized. It was Cassie's old room from before the move to Lawrence. The profile picture was Cas smiling and a badly photoshopped gunshot target on his forehead.
Gabe scrolled through the account with disbelief and disgust. He saw pictures of Cas in places he'd never seen before. There were even pictures of Cas that Gabe wished he hadn't recognized.
The pictures were at least a few years old. They were from times where Gabe would force Cas to get out of the house and stop being so cooped up. Gabe would steal Cas's phone and take tons of pictures of him, forcing him to smile as a positive mindset for leaving the house. He never knew that Castiel had posted the photos in the first place, let alone kept them.
"I assume it was them who broke in," Castiel spoke up. "If you scroll up, you can see the real reason I believe it is them."
Gabe scrolled his way to the top of the page, quickly skimming the content. "These are photos of you on your way to the reunion."
"No, below that. You must have scrolled too far." Gabe scrolled down a bit to see the post he guessed Cas wanted him to see. It was a picture of a beige car - Cas's - with the tire slashed. His blood ran cold when he read the caption, See you soon.
Gabriel looked back up to his older brother. "Cassie, you have to tell the cops about this. This looks dangerous."
Castiel snatched his phone back. "I cannot do that. That means Dean will find out."
Gabe furrowed his eyebrows. "Yes, I know. That's the point."
"No, Gabe." Cas looked into the livingroom again, checking. He sat back and looked directly into Gabe's eyes. "That means Dean will find out what I am," he said, voice hushed.
"How? This guy," Gabe paused, pointing to Cas's phone, "clearly stalks you, but that doesn't mean he knows."
"No, Gabriel. I know who it is. They know about me," Cas admitted, gaze turning to the floor as he spoke.
Gabe was taken aback. So they're blackmailing him into not going to the cops. If the cops catch the guy, he'll out Cas as an Omega. He sighed heavily. Blackmail at its finest.
"I am aware of the fact I am putting myself into danger, but I cannot risk Dean finding out."
"Cassie, this person has pictures of you nobody has ever seen before - not even me. You're putting him in danger, too. Not just yourself."
Cas appeared uneasy, looking down at his lap and arms pulled tightly against his body. He took a moment to take a deep breath. He looked up to Gabe as he started to speak, "You do realize that this person will not stop with telling Dean? They will tell everyone who I am. My business will be ruined, and the public having the knowledge of me, too, will be more dangerous than the danger I am in now."
He opened his eyes wide. "Can't you just lie and say they are a hater and want to ruin your career or something?"
Cas shook his head. "That is too hazardous. This account has over 200 followers. People do not make false accusations about it anymore, Gabe. You know this as well."
Gabe frowned, nodding his head in admittance. Anyone who tried to ruin someone's life by the false Omega accusation would turn out the same way a revealed Omega would: in hiding or dead.
Gabe saw movement out of the corner of his eye and noticed Dean was walking back in the room. Gabe opened his mouth to warn Cas, but he had cut him off with a sigh.
Cas looked down at his lap as he sighed. "I do wish I could protect Dean, but I care for him too much to let him go again," Cas admitted.
Gabe watched as Dean smiled, walking further into the room. Cas looked up at Dean with wide eyes. He bent over slightly and lifted Cas's chin with his pointer finger. Dean pressed a kiss to Cas's lips and Cas flushed red. Dean pulled back and said, "You don't have to protect me. There's no way in hell I'm letting you leave me because you feel like you can't protect me. We're in this together."
Gabriel gagged at the cheesiness. "Okay, before I go grab the bleach to wash my eyes and ears out, can I ask what happened? The cops haven't told us anything." Gabe lied about the last sentence, making it seem like they asked an officer about the situation. Dean didn't need to know Gabe and Cas were having a very serious conversation he was involved in.
Dean chuckled at Gabe's bleach joke and turned to face him. "Some guy broke in asking for 'Castiel.'" He put his hands up and made air quotes around the name. "I told him Castiel isn't here and he freaked out. He saw the shotgun and didn't even flinch. It was really weird."
Gabe was shocked. He looked at Castiel, watching his brother's face pale. "Then what?" Gabe asked, looking back up to Dean.
"I had to shoot the guy, he was trying to come at me."
Cas looked up at Dean in shock at this. "Where did you shoot him?" Castiel asked.
"In the arm," he answered. "He finally backed away and ran out the door."
"Well the cops were nearby, right? You just came up here a minute before I did?" Dean nodded at Gabe's questions. "Then did the cops find him? He must've run straight at them."
Dean shook his head. "They couldn't find the guy. Apparently, the blood trail just 'disappeared'," he added air quotes again.
Gabe looked back at his brother. His face was the same color as the paper white wall behind him and he was looking down at his hands. Gabe followed his gaze to see Cas picking at a fuzz on his pants.
This caught Dean's attention, seeing Cas nervously pick at his clothes. He leaned down to press a kiss on Cas's lips. It was so abrupt that he stopped momentarily, enough for Dean's hand to snake up his thigh and intertwine their fingers. Gabe fake gagged and closed his eyes at the sight yet again.
He stood after he saw the couple pull away and saw Dean murmuring to him. "Oookay, I'm going to go before I puke everywhere."
He walked out of Sam's bedroom to see his boyfriend sitting at the kitchen table. The front door was still open and he heard the murmuring of some cops downstairs.
Gabe smiled at the sight of his boyfriend. He was much better to look at than his brother make out with his boyfriend's brother. "Hey, Samwich," he said as he walked into the kitchen.
Sam jumped slightly, not hearing him walk up. His body visibly relaxed. "Hey, sweetheart. How are you feeling?"
Gabe pulled a chair up directly next to Sam's. "Nauseated. Shocked. How about you?"
Sam draped his left arm around Gabe's shoulders and pulled him closer. He pressed a kiss to the top of Gabe's head. "About the same," he said, resting his cheekbone on top Gabe's head.
Gabe reached his right hand up to his shoulder to interlock his fingers with Sam's. "You know I'm not a headrest, right?"
"Yeah, I know. But you are my boyfriend and I like messing with you." Sam reached his right hand up to ruffle Gabe's hair that wasn't tucked under Sam's cheek.
Gabe huffed at Sam's response. "So why were you being all loner-like, sitting at the table by yourself? "
Sam shrugged. "I didn't think I was being 'loner-like'. Was just thinking about how crazy tonight was."
"Yeah, it really was," Gabe agreed.
"I was just thinking about how worried my mom would be knowing this happened. I finally got Dean to agree to visit her, and now we might not get the chance," Sam said,  voice heavy with melancholy.
"Hey, don't worry about that. Worry about right now, not later," Gabe cooed, squeezing Sam's hand as a reminder that they're still holding hands.
Sam smiled, Gabe feeling the pressure change on Sam's cheekbone on his head. "Thank you. I don't know what I would've done if you were here when everything happened tonight," he trailed off.
"You wouldn't have done anything. You didn't know; I didn't know. Nobody did until it happened. Thankfully, Deano has a security camera," Gabe added, trying to lighten the mood.
Sam took his head off of Gabe's, looking down at his boyfriend as they still held hands. "Are you okay, though? I know you were freaked out when everything happened."
Gabe opened his mouth to speak, but Sam cut him off.
"No jokes, Mr. Trickster. I'm serious."
Gabe fake pouted. "You're no fun."
"Gabe," Sam started.
"Okay, okay, fine," Gabe agreed. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes during the exhale. Once he opened them, he felt more relaxed. His shoulders drooped and back slouched as he became more comfortable. "Yeah, I did freak out when I found out. I was really nervous and was worried about you all."
"Why? You saw we all were okay. There's no need to be worried now," Sam said, attempting to comfort Gabe. Sam kissed Gabe's forehead and it caused him to blush.
Gabe looked down to the floor, trying to hide his face. "I know, I know. It's just..." he paused, debating whether to say it or not. "As silly as it sounds, you guys are basically the only people I care about."
"It doesn't sound silly at all, babe. And I'm sure that's not true. You're an amazing person and people would have to be blind to not see that."
Gabe blushed even harder. "Thank you, but no. The only person I have is Anna. That's not the point I'm trying to make, though."
"What is, then?" Sam inquired, seeming genuinely interested. Gabe smiled. He could hear how much Sam cared about him. It warmed his heart.
Gabe exhaled deeply. He was embarrassed to say what he was about to. He didn't know how Sam was going to take it. "You guys really keep me happy, and sane, and normal - well, for the most part." He smiled at the last part, still looking down to the ground. "Honestly, I... I don't think I'd be able to be happy if you all were gone," he admitted. He felt pathetic for feeling that way but it was the truth.
"You can't think like that, candy man." Sam lifted his right hand and used it to tilt Gabe's head to face him. Gabe forced himself to look his boyfriend in the eye, fighting off every nerve in his body telling him not to.
"I can't help it," Gabe murmured. "It's the truth."
"No, it's not," Sam corrected. He closed his eyes to peck Gabe on the lips quickly. "You deserve to be happy, regardless if we all are here or not. You have a life of your own, too."
"I know I do, but I'm just saying it would be shitty without you guys."
"How? You'd get to do whatever you want, no limitations. You can do whatever makes you happy and bring Anna with you too. Your life wouldn't be over without us," Sam said. He was trying to comfort Gabe but it wasn't working.
"I really appreciate the pep talk, Samwich, but blind optimism isn't really my thing. I'm more of an 'overthink now, overthink some more later' type of person. My brain doesn't exactly work like yours."
Sam chuckled. "I'm being serious though. It's not blind optimism if I know what I'm talking about."
"Okay, okay, fine. New topic since this one is upsetting," Gabe said.
Sam pulled his head back, feigning shock. "How dare you insult my conversation topics? They are amazing."
Gabe smiled, playing along with the joke. "Your conversation topics are shit."
Sam gasped. "Are not!"
"Are too!"
"Are not!"
"Are too! And so are your comebacks."
"Says the one that called me stupid after you hit your head on the car horn," Sam retorted, bringing up the memory.
Gabe laughed, looking up to the ceiling to shake his head in disbelief. "Excuse me, weren't you the one who called me a string bean after your giraffe ass hit your head on the roof of my car?"
Sam's jaw dropped. "Wow, I cannot believe you went there. That was so long ago!"
"You brought it up first, the fuck do you mean?" Sam and Gabe were smiling so wide, their eyes were crinkled.
"I totally didn't. Also, now I'm a giraffe? Didn't know I switched species."
Gabe faked being offended. "You liar, you totally did!"
"I totally switched species?" Sam asked, looking down at his body to inspect himself. "I don't think I did."
"I meant you brought it up, you idiot." Gabe lightly smacked Sam in the chest. "But, yes, you did. You're yellow with brown spots, see?" Gabe picked up Sam's hand to shove it in front of Sam's eyes.
Sam pulled his head back, eyes wide, and blinking. "First of all," Sam said, taking his arm away from his face, "Giraffes are only yellow in cartoons. And, second, my comebacks are amazing."
"Giraffes are yellow in real life, too. And, no, they aren't," Gabe retorted, copying the format of Sam's sentences.
Sam laughed. "You do realize it's like 6am and we're arguing about the colors of giraffes?"
Gabe nodded enthusiastically. "It doesn't matter what time of day it is. Giraffes are yellow."
Sam shook his head and chuckled. "Whatever you say," he smiled, placing a kiss to the top of Gabe's head.
Gabe's face reddened. "Does that mean I win?" he grinned, smiling like a little kid who was just told he could have some candy.
"Sure, sweetheart. Anything for the one I love," Sam admitted.
The two froze, realizing what Sam had said.
Oh, my God. He just said he loves me.
He just said he loves me.
What do I do? Do I say it back and risk him saying it was an accident? He probably didn't mean it. It probably just slipped.
"Uh, sorry if that made you uncomfortable. I didn't mean for it to come out that way," Sam muttered. Both of their faces were bright red and averted to the ground. "I had planned on it being a little more than a slip of the tongue kind of thing. You don't have to say it back or anything. Sorry, again. I wish I could've said that at a better time-"
"Wait, you actually mean it?" Gabe asked, surprised. He peered up at his boyfriend to see his reaction.
Sam looked directly into Gabe's eyes. "Of course I do. You're better than anything I could've ever dreamed of. You're everything I've ever wanted and so much more. So, yeah, of course, I love you."
Gabe felt the heat all the way to his ears. His whole body was overheating at the confession. He wanted to say it back, but his brain was short circuiting. He couldn't get a full sentence to form in his head.
"It's okay if you don't say it back, seriously. It's just, I was thinking about our four month anniversary, and I wanted to wait for you to say it first so that way you're comfortable. I understand that you-"
Gabe cut him off, pressing his lips against his boyfriend's. Sam was clearly shocked at being interrupted. It only took him a moment before he was kissing Gabe back, but he pulled away a second later. "I love you too."
It was now 3pm and Gabe was bored. Sam and Dean had left around noon to visit their mom, but had insisted on Cas and Gabe hanging around, waiting for them to come back.
The two were sitting on the couch. Cas was on his phone doing whatever he was doing.
Meanwhile, Gabe had gotten comfy. His feet were up on the coffee table and he was majorly slouched, his neck resting against the cushion and using it as an awkward headrest.
He was flicking through the channels on their television, bored out of his mind. He wanted nothing more than to text Sam, but he was busy and he knew he should respect that. It's a big day for him. For the both of them.
Gabe sat up abruptly, startling his brother and causing him to drop his phone out of his hands. "It's a big day for them," Gabe said, as if that was enough of an explanation for his suddenness.
"Yes, it is. What about it?" Cas asked, picking his phone up from the couch cushion he was sitting on.
Gabe smiled giddily. "Well, what do people normally do to celebrate?"
"I would assume they would have parties, but that does not fit in this context. What are they celebrating?" Cassie asked, tilting his head.
Gabe rolled his eyes and stood from the couch. "Come on, we should make them a homemade meal." Gabe opened the first cabinet in front of him and was met with lots and lots of cereal. "If things go well with their mom, don't you think they'll be super happy when they come home to a homecooked meal? It's like luxury."
"How is it like luxury?"
"I'm sure if things go well with their mom, they'd want her to eat something more than fast food," Gabe answered. "I'm sure she hasn't been eating the best lately," he said, hinting at the fact of where she lived.
Cas sighed, clearly disappointed. "Are you going to continue raiding their cabinets?"
"Yep! I wanna know what we can make them, but it's not exactly like I know what they have," he admitted. "I have to know what they have in order to make them something," he added matter-of-factly.
He heard the cabinet open next to him and looked over to see his brother. Cassie was going through the cabinet next to him. Gabe smiled, seeing his brother join him in the hunt.
It took about fifteen minutes to plan out the meal. Gabe knew Sam loved salads, so that was their side dish.
For the main entrée, they were planning on a bacon cheeseburger with some of the lettuce, mayonnaise, onion, and a slice of tomato.
The fridge was the main reasoning for what Cas and Gabe were going to make. They had opened it and were shocked, eyes wide as they looked at all of the beer and healthy food. It was clear what belonged to each brother, an invisible line dividing it down the middle.
On Dean's side was the beer and a plastic container. Cas picked it up to inspect the writing on the top:
Deans cheese
burger
From Sam
Dont eat it
all at once
Gabe was attempting to grab all of the veggies with his two hands. It looked like a poor juggling act and Cas had to put Dean's burger down to help.
Cas was the designated burger maker. He often cooked for his family and knew how to make them just perfect. He had pan seared the patties perfectly, a light char causing the meat to have a smoked taste. It was delicious with the perfect amount of seasoning. He didn't put them in the pan yet because he didn't want them getting cold.
Gabe, on the otherhand, was attempting to make a salad. It wasn't too difficult, but it was more than he had been expecting. He sliced a tomato for Cassie and used another for the salad. He had diced it up into small bits. Gabe cut the lettuce into smaller pieces, not really knowing what to do. He threw the salad into the bowl with some shredded cheese and some bacon ranch dressing. He had no idea how they liked their salads, but this was as good as he could do.
It wasn't until 4pm that Sam and Dean arrived. Gabe had looked up from his phone at the sound of the lock, mentally panicking for a split second at what the noise was. He broke into a grin when he saw his boyfriend walk through the door behind Dean.
"What, you miss me?" Sam quipped, pulling his beanie off his head. His hair stuck up and he ran his fingers through it momentarily to fix it.
"Of course I did, ya goof. I was bored," he pouted.
Sam and Dean were still standing in the livingroom and hadn't closed the front door yet. "Is everything alright?" Cassie questioned. He wiped his hands on a dish towel and placed it back on the countertop.
Sam smiled. Dean stood there awkwardly. "We want you guys to meet our mom. Mom, this is Gabe and Jack." Sam gestured to each person as he said their name.
Mary smiled awkwardly and raised her hand to wave. She seemed so nervous and Gabe felt bad. He flicked on the switch of his charm to make her feel more comfortable.
"What? She can't be! She looks young enough to be your sister!" Gabe exclaimed, faking shock.
She turned her face to the ground as she blushed, waving a hand in front of her to dismiss it. "Oh, you're too kind."
Gabe looked up to his boyfriend's bright smile. Sam mouthed, "Thank you," and Gabe's grin widened. He nodded.
"Are those burgers?" Dean chimed in, sniffing the air.
"Yes, and they are almost ready," Cas replied. He turned around to flip one of the patties. The crisp, bubbling sound of the pan made Dean sigh in content.
He entered the kitchen and walked right up behind Cas. He wrapped his arms around Cas's waist, hugging him from behind. Dean rested his head on top of Cas's left shoulder, watching as Cas cooked.
Gabe inwardly panicked. Their necks were where their scent glands were and he had no idea if Cas had brought scentblockers with him. Gabe had remembered to put his on while Sam was showering.
Dean being that close to Cas's scent glands was dangerous. He had the most protective scentblockers that he could have. The only way someone could smell past it is if they directly smell the gland or it needs to be reapplied.
It seemed like they had shared their thoughts because Cas shrugged him off quickly. "Excuse me. If you could plate these, I'd greatly appreciate it," he said to Dean. He pressed a kiss to Dean's cheek hastily and excused himself to the bathroom.
Gabe could see the confusion written all over Dean's face. "He's been having stomach problems lately," Gabe fibbed.
Dean looked surprised, "Is that why he's been saying I can't look in his bag? Because he's hiding stomach pills?" He turned around and grabbed a paper plate, putting all of the cheeseburger patties on it.
Gabe mentally cursed himself. It took him a moment before he could come up with another lie. "Yeah, he's really sensitive about it." He knew he was terrible at lying so he tried to keep it short. "I'm gonna go check if he needs his meds," he said, preventing himself from answering more questions.
Gabe heard Mary ask a question about the apartment, but couldn't care enough to listen intently. He knocked lightly on the bathroom door. "Occupied," Cas said.
"It's Gabe," he replied. Hopefully, Cas would open the door for him. He did.
"What did he say? I heard you two chatting," Cassie asked almost immediately. Gabe had just shut the door behind him.
Cas was sitting on top of the toilet seat, head in his hands. He was visibly worried. He ran his hands through his hair. "I told him you've been having stomach problems lately and that you're really sensitive about it."
Cas looked up to Gabe. "Why would I be sensitive about stomach issues?" he questioned.
"Uhh, maybe because you are embarrassed? Listen, it was the best lie I could come up with on the spot. You gotta come up with the rest."
"Thank you, Gabriel. Now I have to lie to him more," Cas groaned. He dragged his hands down his face and then stood. He flushed the toilet and started washing his hands.
"Why'd you do that? You didn't even go," Gabe inquired. He didn't understand.
Cas turned the water off and flicked the water off his hands into the sink. He started drying them on the hand towel before answering. "Yes, I am aware. I am sure they can hear the toilet flush from the kitchen. If they did not hear it, they would think I am gross for not flushing. And, if they were to go flush, they would not see anything. It makes the most logical sense to flush the toilet and wash my hands, pretending as if I did use the toilet."
Shocked was an understatement. He was thoroughly impressed. Wow. And I thought I overthink too much. "Oh," was all he responded.
Cas motioned to the door and Gabe opened it. Cas stepped out first and then Gabe. The two walked through the livingroom to the kitchen once again.
"You okay?" Dean asked, standing timidly by the counter. It looked like he was afraid Cas was going to walk away if he got close again.
Mary and Sam were sitting at the dining table already. Gabe joined them, sitting down in the chair closest to his boyfriend. "Hey, Samoose," he muttered, trying not to interrupt. Sam smiled in response - as a sort of greeting - and started holding Gabe's hand. The two turned back to Cas and Dean to check on the food.
Cas smiled. "Yes, thank you," he answered simultaneously to Gabe sitting. He walked over to Dean and pressed another kiss to his cheek. Dean smiled cheekily. "Are the burgers still warm?"
Dean turned around as he responded, poking at the burgers with his finger. "Yeah, they're all pretty warm." Dean stuck his finger in his mouth to suck the grease off. He moaned loudly, finger slipping out of his mouth. "Holy shit, Jack. The seasoning on these..."
Gabe started chuckling seeing Cas's beet red face. Cas muttered, "You ruined the cheese."
Gabe took a split second from laughing to peer at the patties. He had to stand up from his seat at the table to see it. He laughed louder when he saw they were - indeed - ruined. The cheese had holes poked in the middle of them.
"I hope you at least washed your hands before doing that," Cas added, still blushing heavily.
Dean finally looked Cas in the eye, watching his boyfriend start to prepare the burgers. "Why are you blushing?" Dean asked. He looked genuinely confused.
Cas continued what he was doing - putting the burgers together with the lettuce and other condiments - and ignoring Dean.
Dean took another moment with furrowed eyebrows before his eyes went wide. "Oh... sorry," he said awkwardly. He walked to the table with his face cringing in embarrassment.
Sam rolled his eyes at Dean and watched him sit down across the table from Sam. Sam was to Gabe's left, Dean to Gabe's right, and Mary across from Gabe.
Dean was closely inspecting the salad in the middle of the table, grimacing as he picked up a piece of lettuce. He examined it for a moment and warily sniffed it. He gagged, throwing the lettuce back in the bin. "Nope. Not doing that," he croaked out, tucking his arms together and frowned heavily.
"Uh, Dean... you missing something?" Sam asked, smirking slightly as he looked at his disgusted brother.
Gabe looked at Dean next, watching him furrow his eyebrows in confusion. Sam pointed to the empty area next to Dean. "What?" Dean questioned, giving Sam a weird look. Sam repeated it and then pointed to Cas. Dean exclaimed, "Oh!" and got up from the table.
Gabe leaned forward towards Mary and she leaned towards him. Gabe put up a hand blocking the right side of his mouth, blocking Dean from lip-reading and hearing. "He's not the brightest," he murmured, seeing Mary's sheeks rise slightly at his joke.
Dean came back moments later with a retractable chair and sat in it, giving Cas his old seat. He was clearly distressed at the fact he placed the chair closest to his mom and ended up moving it next to Gabe. "If either of you prank me, I'm shaving your eyebrows tonight," Dean threatened.
Everyone laughed, even Castiel. He came over moments later with plates in hand, the most gorgeous burger ever seen on them.
Sam squeezed Gabe's hand, getting his attention. He looked up at his moose, seeing a big smile plastered across his face. "I love you, candy man," he mouthed.
Gabe's heart swelled. He couldn't resist leaning forward and kissing Sam on the lips briefly. He sat back and mouthed, "I love you too, Samwich."
